They reckon they are using copy protection where it requires you to have the dvd in the drive at all times, IE checking every now and again. Unless you opt to activate it through steam. So THERE IS copy protection on the DVD,

You need to keep the image mounted to play it. Like you would if you'd bought the game and not installed it with steam.
