I'm working on getting the updated files uploaded but it's going to take a while as the entire 600 MB pak.zip archive was replaced.

Nice.

I couldn't wait any longer for http://torchlight.perfectworld.com to release Torchlight, so I bought it from steam as well. Smile

What updated files? Skidrow release is version 1.1, are you saying there's even a higher build?

Okay, I can confirm that both the fr0gbull and Skidrow releases are the exact same, and are NOT the final builds. Proof, from BuildVer.txt in both releases:

17088_200910250307

However, the BuildVer.txt from the GamersGate release, quoted from the Runic forums:

17098_200910252358

... waiting on final proper.

Taken from a post on the previous page (Not mine.), after the game was unlocked I placed the Skidrow release files in the Steam game folder and re-verified the game content, a lot of files were updated as the buildver.txt file incidates due to this being a newer build.

I can't say what exactly has changed as most data was in the pak.zip archive which was totally replaced but it's probably just minor bugfixes and improvements. Smile
(Still I'm nearly done preparing the archive - Steam is still updating the game content and it's going at 45 KB a second now so it's slow - going to take a while to upload as well due to it's size but I should hopefully be done within a few hours.)

If saves aren't compatible I'll keep playing Skidrow release, as I spent some hours with the game and got some nice rare loot. Didn't notice a single bug.

Anyone knows if they said something about loot/character progression? Travis first game (Fate) was great fun for a while, but it finally left me with a bad taste since your character build and stats eventually became utterly useless due to some of the silly powerful loot you could find...

It scales to your character (Somewhat, lower level dungeons won't be super powerful or anything like that.), hacking the level (100 is max.) I found a unique one-handed sword dealing close to a thousand damage plus numerous other powerful sets and uniques. (There's gold sets and rare sets by the way.) but on the other hand once enemies catch up to your level they'll kick your ass if you don't have proper equipment.
(Phase monster portals going from level 2 enemies to level 100 enemeis, wasn't prepared for that, same with treasure map "portals")

EDIT: part 1 of 2, pretty well compressed so all in all the updated data is only a 300 MB download. Smile

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FHOYLE8P
(part 1, core and system files, direct rip, might need a loader to start or you can re-use Skidrows EXE file, appid for a loader is 41500 I believe.)

EDIT: Extracted Steam AppID numbers. (Or what to call it.)

41500 - Torchlight
45509 - Torchlight ?
39559 - Painkiller Res.
39560 - Painkiller Res. ?
24939 - Dragon Age
27300 - Saw
27220 - Divinity 2
18119 - Shattered Horizon
8190 - Just Cause 2
34039 - Napolen Total War
10199 - Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
8980 - Borderlands
8989 - Borderlands ?
550 - Left 4 Dead 2
590 - Left 4 Dead 2 Demo

EDIT: Part 2, pak.zip with the game data files.

Thanks for that JBeckman, but I was thinking more of if the way you build your character actually matters this time around? In fate you could pretty much build it however since what loot you found was so much more important than the character itself. So, do the actual skills and attributes of the character matter more in Torchlight? Or is it again, totally loot-centric?

If you mean stat and skill bonuses even at higher level equipment I've only seen low bonus values, +3 or +5 being very common but only to a single stat, skill bonuses are lower still.

Will gamble around a bit more to see what I can dig up, there's a pretty large chance to get good equipment so it wouldn't take that long.

Set and unique items doesn't seem to differ in stat, found several duplicate items while gambling previously and those were all identical, the set "Midas" did have two rings though that were named the same so that initially confused me until it displayed three items equipped when tested so there were two different rings to that set. Razz
(Full set gives a small increase in the amount of dropped gold, not that high level though so expected compared to Druid's Arm staff doing 1154 damage for example, hehe.)

EDIT: Part 2 should be up in about five minutes.
(EDIT: Seems to be done.)

Well that sounds good. No more stuff adding 100s to every stat, and tens to every skill. Smile I rememeber finding something like that Fate, which made me think "What the fuck" and never play the game again. lol

Is it just me, or is this game prohibitively dark? I know it takes place in a mine and all, but half the time I can't tell what the hell I'm clicking on! They need to add a gamma slider as well as the option to remap keys.
