Hi,

is this game also playable in single-player mode?
I was reading it is in certain aspects similar to "Hellgate London" (mix of action and action-rpg) . I did never play "Hellgate London" in multiplayer, but the single player was (all in all) not bad in my opinion.

If Borderlands is really similar to Hellgate-Singleplayer I will get it, I think. Is there a real campaign for singleplayer you can finish or is singleplayer just multiplayer with bots?

thx
regards

To compare it to Hellgate London is just bad, so don't buy into that. Hellgate London can't be compared to this.

This game is pretty much this: Wasteland setting, FPS, one skill per class, talent trees, leveling/exp, quests, vehicles and lots and lots of guns (loot). It just can't be compared to any specific game because it contains mechanics from many games. Hellgate London had a FPS mode but it was HORRIBLE and didn't feel like FPS at all, because the game wasn't designed around it, it was just a tacky gimmick. Borderlands is mainly a FPS game, secondly an RPG game (hence why there's only one skill per class, the RPG part of the game isn't the main focus but it does do a lot none the less). That said, if you do like loot, leveling, quests and FPS games, then this game is a must try at the very least.

The game has no separate multiplayer / singleplayer portion. It's full on singleplayer, but you can have (max) 3 other people playing with you at any time in the world, and when that happens everything becomes more difficult as per D2 style (more mobs for example).

Install Rivatuner and part of installation is D3D Overrider, run it and with it you can force vsync and/or triple buffering.

Yep, go to WillowEngine.ini and find UseVsync under [SystemSettings]. Change it to True and you're good to go, works perfectly for me (kinda odd that they left it out from the in-game options). Smile

@djaoni:

Try FOV 101.409630521?

Force it in the nvidia control panel (or in the ati one if there is such an option there) OR go to:
Documents/My Games/Borderlands/WillowGame/Config/
and open the file WillowEngine.ini

Go down to this line:
UseVsync=False

Change it to
UseVsync=True

---

I have not tested the latter method but I read about it on the gearbox forums and it should work...

Me and my friends been playing it coop for some hours last night and today and here's my mini review.

Game is fun and all, but comes packed with a ton of issues.
No AA (come on...)
Even thou many reviews said gun play feels good, imo it feels crappy, unsatisfying and loose.
Hitboxes are bad.
Driving is horrible.
Running around feels bad.
Performance is weird, it's one of these games where you need 60fps at all times or mouse aim doesn't feel fluid, when fps drops to 50 or 40 it feels like 20 when moving mouse.
Overall game has that disjointed feel to it.

And why all of the above doesn't really matter? Well because COOP ftw Very Happy

Doesn't work. The game was supposed to natively support dx10, why the hell was it removed?

PCGH: The PC version supports DX 10. Do you use advanced features of DirectX 10/Shader Model 4 like Geometry Shader, Virtual Texture Management or better Multisampling Anti Aliasing etc.? Can you please give examples how they are utilized? Will the DX 10 visualization differ substantially from the graphics that are rendered with DX 9 hardware?

Randy Pitchford: The DX 10 image will be comparable to the DX 9 image, but it's likely that users will see some performance differences. There are likely some differences in the image, too, but for most customers these differences won't be noticed.

Complete opposite experience here

Hitboxes are spot on... plus how did you come to that conclusion? Not a single weapon shoots perfect till late 20's

Driving controls are done perfect, usually FPS games fuck it up
Performance is fluid, although I have a 4870x2

The baddie's reaction to your gunshots and the spray of loot is very satisfying, game feels great

Getting that bigtime on my x1950 Pro, it is annoying to the point of rendering the game unplayable.

It might be possible since the input ini is pretty detailed in how it lists the various keypresses and effects... No idea if healthkits actually have one assigned to them tho. Maybe they'll patch it in, sure would be handy (even tho I haven't actually needed any health boosts so far, just popping headshots with Mordecai and it's been pretty easy so far).

Heh, the shock death effect is the best I've seen so far: it melts the enemy's face and then pops the skull open and the brains fly out. Laughing

^ There was some cheat commands (something along the lines of give exp 1000, ghost & god mode, etc.) in one of the ini files, but rather than go through the trouble of binding each of those separately to keys, I'd just use CheatEngine to alter the numerical values.

There was some stuff about the weapon spawns there too tho, so it might be possible to spawn some nice stuff, too.

The game doesn't use GPU Physx, so it doesn't matter if you have an nvidia or ati card, you should get the Razor version due to the missing PhysX files (or whatever) of the Reloaded release.

Reloaded might work for now, but if it's missing something you never know what will happen when the game is patched.

BUT.. I tried the Razor relase and it runs slower, at about 40-45 fps while Reloaded ran at about 55-62+

Anyone else experience this?

IMPORTANT:

Well, I can see why RELOADED didn't have the PhysX thing.. the game doesn't use it.
After installing the RAZOR release I enabled the PhysX indicator from nvidia's control panel. This detects if a game is using PhysX and shows whether it runs on the CPU or GPU. For example if I run SAW it shows it runs on the CPU. If I run BATMAN AA with GPU PhysX enabled it shows it runs on the GPU.

If I run BORDERLANDS.. it doesn't show anything.. it's like the game doesn't use the PhysX engine at all..

Can anyone confirm with either the RELOADED or the RAZOR release? Please?
