Based on the "Dragon Age Journeys" way to unlock items the DLC addons and similar will be tied to your EA account, unsure if this means it'll be added to the game by signing in (Similar to how Spore and Sims 3 work.) or if you need to sign in for the unlock data to work.

Perhaps it'll be like Mass Effect where you verify via a serial?
(The items use a form of serial codes to unlock after all so that's possible, unsure how it works if one doesn't have net access however.)

if you don't have internet access then you can't play dragon age journeys so it makes sense for the unlocks to require an internet connection. from what I've read it seems you need to sign into an EA account and play journey, and then sign into that same account in dragon age to unlock the stuff.

Heh, actually to get all three unlocks you first need to complete the initial quest to reach the city, then complete the game and at each of the three points asked take the survey and fill it out and finally obtain all the five achievements one of which is to complete the game as all three primary classes. (Warrior, Wizard and Thief/Rogue.) Razz

This will then continue in the other parts of this online little mini-game as far as I know, one of the surveys further adds to this by asking you questions related to pricing of DLC for "Journeys" like addons (Items, quests and bonuses.) or new functionality like multiplayer, playing as a monster or as a friend or having the game be stand-alone without needing a browser.

I'd rather get those three items from playing a free Flash game (of which I'm a huge fan anyway, I LOVE flash RPGs) than paying some preorder cash bullshit from xxx different stores all offering different items for preorders.

2hrs of a free flash RPG, or buying five separate copies of the full retail game?

Yeah, no contest Laughing

The content you get from the game isnt really game breaking, its just few extra items you can get, no new quests or areas so even if you wont play it you wont miss anything in the game itself

Anyway, the flash game itself is quite nice. Spent nice few hours playing it at work yesterday Very Happy

Even if tied to a EA account I'm still fairly certain the items (All of them.) can be modded in or hacked as they should all be part of the base game (Whereas Stone Prisoner and Wardens Keep are separate downloads.) probably goes for the Blood Dragon armor as well in both Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 albeit it's difficult to say without knowing how the system will work. Smile

Bit over the top perhaps to start a new game with all 10+ items or however they're added. Very Happy
(Atleast, unlike most other RPG's, you would actually be prepared for the challenge in that case, haha.)

Ehggg... I'm not exactly thrilled at paying for DLC on a bloody flash game, but more functionality (especially quests and loot) wouldn't be a bad thing. That and a stand-alone version would be fantastic!

It seemed more like a list of suggestions the developers had toyed with, nothing is final but there's a large chance addons will be released for it, although probably after all three initial chapters are finished. Smile
(Five choices for price ranging from "I wouldn't pay for this" to "5", "10" "20" and "30" $ and the stuff being things like 8 - 10 new quests, bonus items like potions for invincibility and extra XP, a bundled pack with new quests, items and bonuses, ability to play with friends, ability to play online, can play as the monsters, stand-alone version of the game and perhaps one or two other alternatives.)

Oh fuck, I feel like such a little whore, but you all have made me want to buy this prerelease, if nothing else to support Bioware for making PC RPGs. Anyone with an idea where to get this as cheap as possible in Europe, because I sure as hell don't want to funnel an extra 10 euros into Gabe's pocket for the "privilege" to use steam lol. Anyone have any experience with this store: http://www.mymemory.co.uk/PC-Games/Generic/Dragon-Age%3A-Origins-%28PC%29

Seems pretty cheap to me...

I'd like to have it as soon as possible, but a digital copy is just not the real deal.
Steam and D2D are not an option.. for a game like this I want a boxed copy and if possible a collector's edition (cloth map is pretty nice), even if it takes a few more days to get to me than a digital copy.

Of course the best case would be a swift scene release so I can start playing it while I wait for my order... but not really sure how that's gonna work here with all the extra content that you can unlock.

If I start a game without extra stuff on a cracked version, can I then still enable the extra stuff after the game already started or will I have to start a new game for it to take effect?
Arrghh

Decisions,decisions. Very Happy

I do think you need to start a new game in order to get the extra stuff, which sucks for us EU folk, since we need to wait 3 "official" days longer for the game. :/

All this propaganda about Dlc for Dragon is actually making me wanna go on the defense.
Explanation: I don't think that Dlc is just BAD, but I do fear that more and more games will be released with alot of content cut out so the company can sell it later in order to combat piracy.
And hey, the have the right to do that but i for one am gonna feel pretty stupid if I continue to pay the same amount of money for future games with less and less content on release date. In the case of Dragon Age I still believe that the game is worth the money as I have read a review that claims the game has up to 80 hours of gameplay plus more when I replay the game.

But knowing that there is alot of greedy companies out there, It wouldn't surprise me if they will demand the same amount of money for less content while preparing to force feed customers with expensive dlc later on.

It's almost the same price at shopto here: http://www.shopto.net/PC/GAMES/PCDR07-Dragon%20Age%3A%20Origins.html
And that's a shop I can personally recommend.

I often order console games there and they usually start shipping 2 days before the official release date and shipping from them has always been pretty fast for me. Ordered 4 or 5 games so far and all of them only took 2-3 days to arrive eventhough I'm in austria and the shop is in the UK. Maybe I was just lucky with the delivery times though.
They also send you an sms when they dispatch your order which is pretty nice Smile

That's where I'd buy it if they had the collector's edition. For some reason it's nowhere to be found in UK shops.

Seems like they are just testing the market to see if Flash based RPGs would be a viable business.

Remember, Journeys is made by professional developers, not students or hobbyists. And it really shows. I wouldn't pay much for sure, but for a full game done that way? I could see paying 10 bucks for 15 hour complete game.

They have something here they call collector's edition: http://www.game.co.uk/PC/RolePlaying/~r343169/Dragon-Age-Origins-GAME-Exclusive-Collectors-Edition/

Though no mention of cloth map, same in Swedish stores. :/ I think us eurofags are getting the shaft on the real collector's edition.
Oh, and shopto charges shipping for orders outside uk, which means the price lands at £31, which is quite a bit more expensive...

oh. right, I missed the free worldwide delivery thing on the other mymemory one.

Exclusive Collector's Edition on game.co.uk? Yeah doesn't seem to be the real deal considering the cloth map isn't mentioned, as you said.
it also says plastic box, but the real CE has a steelbook.

Makes no sense though because german speaking countries do have a collector's edition.
here on amazon for example: http://www.amazon.de/Dragon-Age-Origins-Uncut-Collectors/dp/B002JM0R4G

it's just so much more expensive in € compared to GBP.
45€ for the normal edition and 65€ for the CE, while on amazon.co.uk you pay merely 27€ for the normal edition. if there was a UK CE it'd probably cost only half as much as the german one...

damn them all to hell!

if you don't need the boxed version you could preorder the digital version on stardocks impulse for 34,76€.
if you use the SURVEY-2009 coupon until 1.november you'd get 20% off and it would cost you 27,80€.
sadly it seems the preorder is limited to certain countries (i think us & uk), i have a german account & ip and for whatever stupid reason i'm not allowed to preorder :/

Yea i read on the official forum that UK really got fucked with the CE. The reason was some deal with GAME or something. Really fucked up imo. Seems to be the same in Sweden also.

Was going to get the CE but with a plastic box and no map, why should i?

A question: The items we unlock and get for pre-ordering and everything els, will we be able to use them from the start or will they only be in the game somewhere? Seems like you can unlock a lot of stuff and get pretty buffed if you get it all from the start?

Good question.

I'm expecting them not to hand out bonus stuff right away because that would indeed screw things up and make you way overpowered (based on the stats of the bonus items I've seen so far).

If they do let you start with all that stuff then that'd be like cheating and I'd have to throw it all away.

Maybe those items will just be added to a shop that is easily accessible later in the game with a high price, like the Adventurer's Mart in Waukeen's Promenade of Baldur's Gate 2.
That's how I'd do it Smile

No wait.. I'd probably add a small quest for each special item. That would have way more style.

Hehe good idea Smile

Btw any one who have shopped at shopto? It was cheap, but it seems their CEO have had some shady business. One was closed down, but it was about tax issues. Seems to be many happy consumers also so, don't really know what ti think.

http://www.eurogamer.net/forum_thread_posts.php?thread_id=76504

mymemory.co.uk was also cheap, but they have RELEASE DATE 23/10/09, what?

My orders so far from ShopTo:
Killzone 2
Empire: Total War
Eternal Sonata
Lair
inFamous
Lost Season 1 - BluRay
Dynasty Warriors 6 Empires
Heavenly Sword
Xbox360 Play&Charge Kit
Amored Core: For Answer
Mirror's Edge

all of those were seperate orders over the course of this year and delivery was always exceptionally quick for orders from the UK. Amazon.co.uk always takes at least twice as long on average and Play.com took even longer.

I can definitely recommend ShopTo.
