It's not that, like I said a lot of people are not informed and probably don't know anything about it, others probably heard about it but are not familiar with the term 'dedicated servers' aka kids.

Couldn't see that coming. Lol.

I'm sure I'll end up buying myself too. Pissed off about the no dedicated servers, but I'll still enjoy the online play so will most likely grab anyways.

Not quite in the same rush I was before but, will wait and see what happens.

Also the fact they've bumped the price up in oz also pisses me off, will be buying from shops for a change.

Note I did say I'll be buying from the shops, not whining about localised steam pricing ceaselessly like those Europeans

Nice, I love steamworks and cloud. Reinstall windows, start the game and everything is set to the way it was before Smile

Everyone here has a valid point for not buying the game due to it not having dedicated servers. I myself ordered Assassins Creed 2 instead of this (hey, at least I got an action figure there) and I'll pick this up when it's in the bargain bin.
And seriously, they want 60€ for the motherfucker?!?
Ahhh....that's 10€ away from some PoS console game.

So if people who decide not to buy the game for their own resons are considered drama queens, then go ahead and call me one, cause I'd rather be a drama queen than a brainless drone any day of the week.

IWNet does not host games.. This straight from IW_Scriptacus:

Question:
Quote:
I've been trying to determine if these are all listen servers run locally by one client or hosted on IW.Net. If the host drops, does the game end? Does IW.Net "test" the host to see if they have adequate system and/or bandwidth to handle the load? If peer-to-peer, is there some type of "load distribution" or is everything in the hands of the "host"? Thanks in advance if you can answer these questions.

Answer:
Quote:
Locally hosted, chosen by IWNet based on a number of criteria (ping, bandwidth, CPU, etc...) The game includes host migration for cases when the host leaves.

As many have stated, hardcore gamers are no longer the focus. Gaming has become mainstream and as much as I hate to admit this was bound to happen. The mainstream doesn't want to worry about system requirements, about making the smart choice. They want simplicity. This obviously means they'll pay way more than they should but that is just how the market works. This has happen in other markets and has now reached the gaming market. The golden days of fast gaming innovation are over and features are being cut because they know they can sell the same with less.

But regarding COW MW2 dedicated server and modding being left out , what really pisses me off is knowing that they could have combined their IWNet matchmaking with dedicated servers and modding the way games like Americas Army do and take advantage of that having higher profits.

They could for instance have different partners that would rent the community dedicated servers. They could promote modding and later on sell a special edition with the best COD mods. So many things they could do.
For $60 I can't help but wait for the game to come out and see how things go because as much as COD MW 2 may be, it is not the only game in town.
I think my money will go for Dragon Age. Bioware at least has made an effort of continuing to deliver top game experiences on the PC.

Great...now everyone has to wait few seconds every few minutes to continue playing when host decides to ragequit. Bravo IW! I wasn't ok when they announced there won't be dedicated servers, but I at least hoped they would host them themselves or authorize some hosting companies to be able to host them. But this? Ah at least I save my money...

Host migration is kinda a big deal, because majority multiplayer games using locally hosted games don't have that, so once the host leaves everyone is fucked for good

not just a pause, but your ping might go from decent to utter shit... it creates an utterly inconsistant gaming experience... you might join a game, then get kicked 5 minutes later, because your ping is now 5 too high for the in-game pairing threshold, when the host switches Very Happy

btw i also liked what IW said about the new system removing the barriers of entry for players who dont know how to maintain a dedicated server. haw haw Very Happy

It's not that, like I said a lot of people are not informed and probably don't know anything about it, others probably heard about it but are not familiar with the term 'dedicated servers' aka kids.
Or maybe we just don't care that there are no dedicated servers.

So wait, let me get this straight.
You're perfectly happy with paying 60€, being forced to run it through steam and then get inferior online-gameplay?
Not only that but you'll probably be charged 5-10€ for the upcoming DLC's with like 3 maps and not being able to mod the game at all?

So if you're not bothered by all those things then high five, cause I just think I found waldo! \o/ Cool Face

Post Scriptum
Btw, I'm only joking since I've got friends who will be buying the game none the less (with or without the dedicated servers). It's just that it boggles the mind why people would go ahead and pay more for less, I personally can't understand it but meh, to eache his own.

Yeah obviously ditching dedicated servers are the future, I mean what's the point to have fair play for everyone? It's not like consoles should have dedicated servers either.. Matchmaking and dedicated servers can never exist together!!
