Oh, I think those cancellations will send a message. I think people bickering here and making up cute boyfriend names like 'Craptivision' and blindly raging at all the wrong entities will not matter one fucking bit.
Like I said, there's a way to do things and there's a way to spin your wheels in the mud and get nowhere.

You are kidding right? PC sales are no where close to console sales.
WHY DO YOU THINK EVERYTHING IS FOCUSING ON CONSOLES? To market to LESS people?
Seriously, think for a second.

That is exactly what I am doing. I didnt sign the petition, but I am NOT going to buy the game unless things change. I didnt register on their forums just to start a raging thread. In fact the only place I vented my frustration is this forum, because I know, most of the people here will agree with what IW is doing is bs. I might be completely off but the purpose of the forum is to share opinions, be it positive or "whiny".
I might understand you, if we were complaining about something minuscule like an extra gun on xbox version, but it is not the case. We are complaining about a fundamental pc feature that should be there.

Well, I wasn't talking specifically about you. Some people are much more rational than others.
I'll be honest, I'm just irritated. I've been on this site for over 3 years and the poster quality has gone downhill A LOT lately.
Maybe I'm just old and this new generation of 'PC Gamerz' isn't my scene anymore. I don't have it in me to stomp my feet and throw tantrums when games aren't tailor made to suit me 100%. I buy games that appeal to me and I don't buy ones that don't. I have better conversations with all my friends that have moved to consoles but I come here for PC related chat and it's nothing but whining these days.

Get off my lawn. Damn punk kids. It's not that the number of quality posters has been declining it's the increase in younger people using the internet.

The issue here isn't that they didn't cater to something that people wanted. The issue is they are outright dropping support for something every MP shooter should have. I never had any attention of even playing this game but I am going to be vocal about what I consider to be a rather stupid move on IW's part.

Well, dedicated servers are too customizable, if you look at CoDWaW on PC, it has prestige and all, but all that is useless, as dedicated server admin can just make his server give 12312415135 xp for each kill, giving you highest prestige level in a few kills.
I know some people don't care about leveling up and shit, but for me it's part of call of duty experience. If I wanted bare bones online FPS i would just play CSS.
I actually like what they do with MW2 on PC, IW.net, steam, vac is all nice because theoretically it should reduce cheating, stat hacking and so on, but that doesn't mean they had to remove dedicated servers whatsoever. They should allow people have non ranked dedicated servers (so they don't interfere with prestige) that can run any custom content they want.

VAC sucks. There are tons of hacks that are undetected.

Who cares, omg. Let them cheat if they want. You leveling has nothing to do with skill, everyone gets it over time. At the end of the day it's secondary and it's laughable you think it's fair tradeoff for stable servers. Oh wow now you can show you played to lvl55 hundred time over, aren't you the cool one, here's a cookie.

About the single-player campaign: They DID say at some point that the endless waves of respawns were a thing of the past, right?
The production values and all were of course top-notch in CoD4 SP campaign, but it was so lame how they implemented the enemies that just kept coming unless you kept rushing on all the time.

While I understand your argument and I also enjoy leveling up in CoD4, I think the argument is a bit weak. Since you don't really have to join those servers and even if there are idiots out there who cheat their level, it won't matter much because most people who play actively will be max lvl after a month or two anyway. So it's not that much of a cheat anyhow. :/
Not really enough of a reason to not include the option to have dedicated servers in my opinion.
And I am not saying I'm going to boycott the game, I will still buy it, just like I did with CoD4, when I can get a cheaper cd key. But I am disappointed none the less. I was thinking of pre-ordering it and paying full price because I really enjoyed CoD4 but this does disappoint me. |
As someone who bought and played every single call of duty game online I beg to differ. Dedicated server system is far from perfect.
Let's say I want a nice tight 6v6 match so there's no nade spam and all that crap. I see a dedicated server in a list with 12 player cap. If the server is full it will take forever to join. Now when I finally do join it's in the middle of the game and everyone's doing their thing already, and I have to wait out for another map while playing in a game in progress. I hate joining maps that are already in progress, feels like cleaning up other players' mess.
Also on dedicated serves people come and go as they please, so there's no consistency of player numbers.
With matchmaking most of these annoyances are eliminated, you can easily start a 6v6 match from scratch and play with the same people till the end. Also there are no retard admins kicking you in the middle of a nice game to make slots of their friends and so on.
If they somehow could integrate matchmaking with dedicated servers it would be awesome.

Dude, you're talking hilarious shit here. You join some others own dedicated server for 6vs6 and you're bitching it doesn't fit your needs? Did you pay anything for this server? No, you don't. Set up your own dedicated server thats fitting your needs and there you go. Dedicated servers aren't for free, they dont grow on trees and are waiting happily to get picked down by you.
Dedicated servers are about the best possible connection and offering a playground for clans and teams. If you're playing on an public dedicated server and it doesn't fit you, go and join another one. If they all suck for you, open a listenserver (it's the same thing as matchmaking is) and there you go (probably with a bad connection like on the consoles).
There are no cons with dedicated servers. Not a single one.
And there is not a single FPS with ded-server support that don't support listenservers too. You're always free to open your own one.

Here are a few major ones from the top of my head:
1. They aren't free.
2. If you want best experience you have to buy your own server.
3. Dedicated server without players is useless.
4. Admins and owners are usually pretentious bitches who treat people that play on their servers like crap.
5. Most of dedi servers are used as a form of advertisement.
P.S. to simpletons: i'm not against dedicated servers, i'm not against dedicated servers, i'm not against dedicated servers, i'm not against dedicated servers, i'm not against dedicated servers.
