Regardless if it still plays well or not.. |
True but better to leave it out until implemented the right way.
Better leave it out if it causes problem, fix it then put it back in

looks like in 2.5 they're removed a part of a patch of 2.1 which patched nothing.

this version is fucked or something, get one of the older versions and run the 2.5 patch and you should be fine.

For those of you that are getting black screen on startup (that's about the 3 minute intro trying to play but you can't see it); also for those who start a mission and get a hang at a black screen or in the character choose.. it's this release.. guaranteed. When you get to the main menu with the rotating space stations.. the "big-screen grids" SHOULD be showing "live-action" combat scenes on them (like a newscast) but they may also be black.
I myself downloaded the very first Procyon clone release back last year when the game was released; at then it could only be mounted, installed and played with DTPro w/VIDE. A couple months later a mini-image was released and the game could actually be played with the latest DTLite. Other semi-workarounds have included throttling back your CPU and various other forms of "jumping through hoops". Me.. I've never had any problems with the game (WinXP Home 32-bit w/SP3) and have been incrementally patching it up till v2.0a about 3 months ago. I stopped there because v2.1 introduced new TAGES drivers that were "uncrackable" using former Daemon mounts. Just the other day I downloaded patch 2.0 to 2.1.. then 2.1 to 2.5 final right off Egosoft's own site and applied them. I can now play the game freely with no DRM or need to mount (as they promised).
My point is.. my best friend decided to download THIS version (CPY). He installed it yesterday (HE has Vista Ultimate 32-bit w/SP1). He was having ALL the problems you all are describing and simply could not start (much less get into playing) the game.
He tried running the executable as administrator.. he tried using various OS compatibility modes and he also noticed that when he tried to play the MP3 music files in Media Player 11.. he couldn't (The movies are in DAT files so we couldn't test them). He also uses "codec packs" so we thought it might be the "FFDShow problem", but I showed him how to disable FFDShow and Audio for the X3TC.exe in it's parameters.. still no workie.
Lastly.. he uninstalled it completely (registry wipe included) and tried my Procyon image. He said he noticed that my Procyon image was taking about 20 minutes to install as opposed to the 5 min for CPY. After all was said and done.. he installed my "incremental" patches (1.01 to 1.3; 1.3 to 1.4; 1.4 to 2.0a; 2.0 to 2.1 and lastly 2.1 to 2.5).. rather than the all-inclusive one from the CPY version.
Game then started up just fine for him and he was able to play perfectly. So I guess my point is that either this image.. or the patch they (CPY) provided is screwed up somehow (at least for many). I personally would recommend just downloading either an old clone image or for that matter even the last one by TinyISO and using Egosoft's patches off their own site (just don't use TinyISO's "beta" crack). Good luck.
A couple other notes: yes.. the game does NOT support multiple cores and the developers say it never will.. so if you're seeing multiple core "tapping out" something's not right. The last patch reverted back to capping RAM usage to 2GB for stability reasons (I have 3GB and my friend has 4GB) but if you have outrageous amounts of RAM.. you may also see problems. This game never "officially" supported even Vista (not in the original specs) so if you're running W7.. expect even less support and maybe more bugs.

m...any known issue with the xbox360 conroller?
my analog stick not responding, anyway to configure it or to fix it?
(it's active in the controlls configuration, but it is not working in the games and i am talking of the movement of the "e" and "q" key's roll ship.)
edit:xpadder fixed this issue.

This game kicks ass. It's like a fps. rts, sim all rolled into one. It's not till you look at all the mods and scripts over at egosoft till you get an idea of what this game can do. x3tc.ru also has just about everything you want to know about the x universe. I cheated and started the game with the unknown Xenon ship., modded to my taste using X3 Editor 2.
Top game.

Terran Conflict is seriously underrated in graphics too.
Also I can't wait to see what the x-tended mod team does with Terran Conflict.
NO LINKS TO ILLEGAL STUFF IN SIGS - DLC IS ILLEGAL TOO

If you have the time accelerator (most basic equipment of the ship, so unless you sold it, you must have it installed already), just press J and the time compression will kick in (you can adjust the amount in the options somewhere, from 2 to 10 tiems the normal flow of time).
You can also buy engine tuning in shipyards.

Also, you can - if memory serves - change your course VERY slightly (and I do mean very! Move the mouse with incredibly slight movements) whilst in time-compression. If you move the mouse too much, you'll drop out of compression.

If you switch to boresight you can get more movement in SETA than the default click and hold. The laser fire dead spot is quite annoying (in that vague sort of way) and should really be adjustable.
If your in need for some early starting cash a good way is to get the ABeam/CBeam script. You can then use a hotkey to vacuum up wares left over from destroyed ships and sell them off at docks. You'll come across loads of missiles after a battle and flying around mainually picking up containers is tedious.
You might also want to hunt around for a script that adds the ship mounted repair laser to certain docks. You'll see it listed as a compatible laser on some ships, but it is not actually available in the vanilla version. It costs nothing (@ 28cr) and it's way better than sitting out in space in your space suit with your shitty hand held laser taking half an hour repairing the hull of an abandoned freighter. Or the nanite hull repair script that uses shield energy to repair damaged hulls. You'll come across a fair few abandoned ships where the pilot bailed after losing their shields (keep some spare shields for repairing if cargo space allows), and you'll sell ships for far more cash with a 100% hull.

Have you set your ship as part of a wing? If the player ship is a wing member it will override user input and resume whatever action the wing is set to take. Wings are really only useful for controlling groups of ships from your own ship, your own ship being independent from any of your wings.
If you want another fighter to escort you, you can set them as your wingman, then they will follow you, rather than you following the wing.
