Since this is a PC review (content and gameplay-wise, Borderlands should be consistent across all platforms), I do want to briefly talk about some PC specific things. A while back Gearbox specifically said that they were working very hard to integrate all of the games menus with a mouse. Unfortunately, all it seems that really means is that is works with a mouse. There are a few bugs involving scrolling quest text, selling items means opening a dialogue box and hitting "OK" for every single item you want to sell, and it sadly appears that the menu system was designed for controllers with PC support tossed on as an afterthought. It's not the end of the world, and selling becomes easy when you just mash enter over and over, but it really would have been nice to see some effort, even if it was just a "shift click to sell" mechanic introduced.
|
Where's Cedge now, eh?
Still, I'm used to shoddy menu systems by now (Oblivion, DE Invisible War, Fallout 3) and no doubt we should see some snazzy mod replacements soon enough, as long as Gearbox embraces the modding community rather than ostracising them.

So, don't expect an early relase. Don't forget to thank our close friends from Securom. It's basically the same system that Bioshock used sans the number of activations.
Fuck 2K.

And again, I refer everyone to my earlier statement; Borderlands was delayed for one reason and one reason only --- to maximise sales on the console SKU, and *not* (as some would try to force us to believe) "optimisation and feature implementation"
Remember this?

assumptions, based on nothing.
|
That's not paranoia or "assumptions based on nothing", that's an extrapolation based on available evidence - which has now been pretty much proven.
=Edit=
Sorry, speculation was the wrong word.

That means nothing. Did they say "oh, we will release it a week later but we promise you'll get the most awesome menu system ever!!!!1111"???? NO! So, no point in quoting this text as evidence that "hey.. they didn't do any MENU optimizing this extra week.. LIARS!!!!!111"
Though I should point out that I agree with you that the reason they delayed it is (probably) because they are afraid of lost sales on the console side, but nothing you've posted is evidence. At all.
And then like you peoples were all like, "YOU IS TROLLIN!" and I was like "I AM NOT TROLLING!! I AM guess_who_kthxbai YOU SEE! Mm!"

They added a few minor things. We also may have some of the issues patched. I've not heard of the AI bug in any of the PC reviews but that remains to be seen.

What a surprise. I was, once again, correct - and lo! People still piss and moan at me over it. The delay was for adding new features and optimisation, right? One of those being a "specifically designed for use with a mouse" GUI, right?
All I said, from the start, was that this was a lie - and that the delay was solely to maximise console sales.

Finally, and what actually makes me the happiest, is that Steve promises that the PC version will have menu and inventory systems that are specifically designed for use with a mouse, the lack of which has been one of my bigger complaints about recent multi-platform games.
|
We didn't/haven't got that! Why can't you get through your fucking skulls? They LIED, which is no surprise, yet there's still people clinging desperately to their pathetic arguments and constantly griping at me? Good god, grow up!

I'm not sure why you actually care. Whether or not your right (and I believe you are) it doesn't change the fact the game was delayed. We all have to suffer together.

It's not like that. This goes back weeks now, all I did back then was gripe about the delay - which I saw as needless - and I got nothing but grief in return. I just feel vindicated, that's all, because I'm sick of having to defend myself from brainless fools all the bloody time.

Vindicated because a reviewer wasn't totally happy with the mouse control in a menu? JFC.. you are the whiniest bitch ever.
We all fucking knew it was to help minimize piracy, but adding some extra shit is nicer than nothing.
Let's not forgot it's people like you that are the reason this shit happens in the first place. Now shut the fuck up.
P.S. Report my post all you want. Don't care if I get banned. This 'community' is the fucking dregs of the internet.
Banned due to whining etc, and I'm sure I'm doing you a favor by removing you from the dregs of the internet for a while ~Epsilon

They never said that they're going to add these features in that extra week, so the above means nothing. It's just common sense that the real reason of delay was because of piracy but there's no evidence at all to prove it. We just know it.

Fair enough. Can't say I've been paying much attention to the whole thing.

A lot of Triple A titles have been pushed back to 2010 out of fear of competition with MW2 -- but there are still some great games coming this year (Borderlands and Dragon Age are going to rule! Plus there's some under-the-radar games, like Star Wolves 3 and GREED)

How sad is it that people have to state they don't own a console like it makes them inferior if they admit to playing one...

Fuck 2K. |
There are no activation limits. It was confirmed on the official forums.
And, 2K doesn't decide what kind of DRM their game uses. That would be the publisher.
EDIT: Also, the DRM will not be included in subsequent printings once the release date has passed. Also confirmed on the official forums.
From Brandon's Justin.TV chat:
gbxnettle:
I did the securom stuff... questions?
fogglecopter:
Are there activation limits?
gbxnettle:
no
gbxnettle:
there is a release-date control though, so you'll need an internet connection to install the game. (yes, even just to install it)
gbxnettle:
After the release date passes, any future copies that are mastered will not have that extra layer.
gbxnettle:
steam version uses steam copy protection. Not securom.
gbxnettle:
there is also the standard CD-check for securom... so you'll need the cd to play.
gbxnettle:
(don't get mad at us for that, we don't have control over what copy protection to put on it.)
