You play as Dan Fisher. Sam's brother. You set out to find your kidnapped brother and avenge her daughter's killer.

Well, they froze his age at 45 for gameplay reasons, but he does seem a lot younger.

Maybe it is the answer for Sam making 100 miles per hour on a ledge. Laughing

Well, first I had some hopes, but now the developer on official forums completely made my mind about buying this abomination.

This is, sadly, the first Splinter Cell game I will not buy. Hell, I might download 10 copies of it just for the kicks.

The post below was posted by Ubi developer. People in the thread were wondering if you could still KO people or just kill them.

Quote

Quote:
In the story of Conviction Sam doesn't care about individual enemies, whether they live or die, he just wants answers to his questions. He's focused, driven and almost completely obsessed by this. In previous Splinter Cell games Sam may not have killed people for a variety of reasons (some of which you may have listed) but now he doesn't care. He's not of the same character that you saw in previous games. Hence there's no real care (or distinction, if you will) between knocking out an enemy or killing an enemy with hand to hand combat - they're just out of the way, the way Sam wants, and he can then move on.

I'm sure you'll happily argue this and state that Splinter Cell is dead for you but unfortunately, for your sake, this is the way it is.

This is beyond ridicule now.

And this is probably the best retort to the very same post mentioned above:

Quote:
I think the more correct thing to say is that you don't care. You've intentionally destroyed a respectable, admirable, and heroic character trait to give Sam that "ripped jeans" appeal to a more mainstream audience.

I'm going to pick up my copy of Borderlands today, and while I'm there I'm going to withdraw my sixty bucks from ConViction. Whatever this mess is, it's not worth a dime of my money.

Thanks for all the great memories with Chaos Theory, but the glory days of Splinter Cell are clearly over and at this point you're just trying to cash in on it.

EDIT: And speaking of conflicting information, here's a perfect example:

"Hey, suits, let's title this game ConViction. It's Sam's personal journey that highlights his beliefs and morals. Cool, huh?"

"Very cool! Now for gameplay let's make him more brutal than ever and go on killing sprees!!!Rolling Eyes "

R.I.P Samuel Fisher . Sad

I don't see the difference between this Sam and a Nazi, well maybe a Nazi cares more about people, Jesus they kill his daughter and now the whole world has to die, that's some pathetic writing, 80's movies style.

People are actually showing remorse now. Many are saying "if only I had not complained about hobo Sam, at least I would've gotten a stealth game"

Ironically, the hobo Sam version is more Splinter Cellish than this crap.

So basically people are complaining that they are not getting the same character they've known and loved? They are complaining that the narrative thread of Sam Fisher has been altered to show some - shocks and gasps - character growth?

Not a single person here has actually played the game, and so the only ones who truly appreciate the context of the developers quote are the actual developers.

I love how really you can parse these character complaints down to "Sure he was a killer before. . .but he was a killer with a conscience!"

Laughing

Yes, he has shown the character growth similar to Arnie. Laughing

BLAARGH THEY KILLED ME DAUGHTERS, HULK ANGRY, HULK SMASH PEOPLE

You had to kill around 6 people in all 4 games.

1 in Splinter Cell, 1 in PT, 2 in CT, 2 in DA.

He never was a killer. He's not suicidal maniac that goes around killing people because his daughter has been killed in a CAR ACCIDENT.

Yes, I'm sure that after 2 years of DA storyline Sam went like "OMGZ CONSPIRACY, GOVERNMENT KILLED ME DAUGHTER, I MUST KILL EVERY CRIMINAL IN THE WORLD USING BRUTAL INTERROGATIONS IN 24 HOURS, SHIT'S GOIN OFF IN THE NEXT HOUR, CHLOE GIVE ME RADAR COVERAGE" Rolling Eyes

Well considering what they did to the series, Sam's personal quest for vengeance is not so surprising after all.
After seeing so many cheesy moovies and stuff with clichรฉ storylines, this comes as no surprise. Especially after Double Agent (it was the only SC game I regret buying).

By the way:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/24_season_2

Replace "Los Angeles" with "Washington D.C" and "nuclear bomb" with "EMP bomb" and you have a game scenario for Conviction. No shit.

Character growth would be having the character shed the standard and usual tropes that create a basic game starring said character. The same old story is apperantly what some of you want. But sure, pretend the opposing voice doesn't know what they're talking about - "LOL" (not really, just adding that on there since it seems some of you use it in place of an actual reasoned retort).

He never was a killer.

In your game perhaps.

Again youre making a criticism on storylines points that you can't possibly have any access to. And if you do, please share them with the rest of the internet so we can all be satisfied that yes "this story/character development is crap. . ."

No, it's the way the character was created. All the dialog (for instance, the mission in Jerusalem when Lambert tells you to kill the double agent, even if you kill her Sam shows remorse and is angry at Lambert, and if you don't kill her Sam tells Lambert it takes him more than his order to kill an unarmed woman).

If you read the books, you'd know that Sam hated killing and did it only if his or hostages life was in danger.

If you even cared to listen to the dialog you would know this.
