I refuse to buy anything on steam period unless it's some little indie game or it was L4D.
1) I don't need a 3rd party program to launch my game, a .exe is good enough.
2) I bought FEAR 2 without knowing it was steam based. Installed it, got me a soda, ready to play something awesome, "Sorry your game is unavailable right now, please try again later"
What? You mean I just paid 50 bucks for a game, installed it on MY fucking HD and your going to tell ME it's unavailable? No..shut your fucking trap and launch the fucking thing.
3) It may not be a big enough issue to some of you because you keep your shit legit, but I'll be fucking DAMNED if I let a company I have no control over keep authority of my games. Your just letting them in the door to do whatever they want for the future. You may not have to worry about them banning your account and all your games go with it, but it's the idea that they could by accident, and all your precious money goes out the window. Not even a boxed copy for a backup, and even if you did, chances are it'd be a bitch to get it installed cause you'd have to make a new installer etc.

How can a game that's installed on your HDD not be available?

It's steam he's talking about. The game likely wouldn't launch because of some obscure tiny little update that Steam was refusing to download. Not fully updated? No game for you.

And you can't do serious modding to some games because of the protection every game has to go threw steam, for ex. Oblivion on steam wouldn't work all those mods that require the advanced scripting program that is launched by oblivion.exe, on steam you couldn't get that program running.

Steam versions have traditionally been terrible with mods tho (AFAIK they are releasing the SDK after all, so expecting lots from the modding community), which is why I'm waiting for the boxed version.
And it's rarely an issue, but with Steam you're always stuck with the latest patch version, right?

Come on Beckman, how can you call an extra 50 SEK for a digital product pretty even? It makes no sense.
As for Steam, great thing tbh killed by unrealistic prizes and some bad policy.

The author of the application needed to make adjustments for the steam executable. The steam DRM certainly did not go out of it's way to break the script extenders usage. I'm an Oblivion modder myself and nothing I've made has relied on any third party applications. I even have my own save manager for the game but it's very basic and only fiddles with one of Oblivions files.

I will say this about steam tho, it's chat overlay program rocks and it's great for MP games made to use it's service. L4D co-op sessions were a breeze due to it shows who's online and being able to invite them to a game with ease.
But paying 50 bucks for a boxed version vs 50 bucks for digi version. I'll go with boxed, extra goodies, don't have to redownload the game or backit up or whatever but that's also not an option for everyone.
anyone intererested btw, gogamer.com has the pre-order for 40 bucks.

i hate free deliver as odd as that sounds. It always takes a week to get something and they use the worst fucking carrier. Newegg does that freeshipping all the time but your forced to use UPS if you want it.

CDWow is all major countries (EU and US).
Having ordered from them in the past I found that they were quite quick since they used air mail.
It is cheaper on the cdwow.us than steam pre-order $41 vs $45
Personally having to work out the shipping makes it harder to calculate and compare.

For me it's stupidly fast once something gets into Australia Posts hands and I live in the country which adds a day of transit from the city to my place.

Blockbuster.co.uk has it at 20 quid, too. I think they only deliver to the UK.
Epsilon: Game is great btw, I love it, so far it's a definite goty. It's remarkable how much has changed since the beta, stardock have been working their asses off, and it shows.

(this are my experiences from the xbox version)
I competed it together with a friend last night - I was playing at the Hunter (Mordecai), and my friend as the Soldier (Roland)
Okay some basic stats about our playtrough:
Playtime: about 24 hours
Level reached: 35/50
We got the option to do a "nightmare playtrough"
Nr. of guns found - hundreds and hundreds!
Enemies killed trough out the playtrough: would love to say over 9000, but its more like 3000 - so get ready for A LOT OF SHOOTING!
Okay, more about the game itself:
Pros/really liked:
The core shooting is very solid - although I'm definitely getting this on PC, using sniper rifles against moving targets with a controller = not great.
The graphics are top notch, but to some extent i guess its a matter of taste if you like the cartoony style or not.
RANDOM GUNS! We found so many cool guns, from acid shooting rocket launchers, to a flachette-revolver that regenerated bullets (which was my main weapon from level 22 to 35)
The humor - if you are a fan of the old fallout games, you will like the humor in this!
There is RPG in my shooter! with its for classes, and 3 "specs" for each, you can play to game in a lot of ways - from the gunslinging hunter, focusing on revolvers, to the more melee oriented Beserker, or the stealthy Siren.
Cons:
While the graphics are cool, there is far too little unique artwork to go around. Most of your time will be spent killing the 3 same basic enemy types: Bandits (of which there are 3-5 kinds), Skags (doglike creatues), and Spiderants(a reskinned verson of the skags (almost)). Thats too bad! I know that the first DLC will include Zombies, but where are all the crazy space beasts? The giant robots? and so on.
Its all pretty much desert (and scrap towns)! I get that its a desert planet and all, but together with the monotonous enemies, all desert gets old. Why isn't there a terraformed junglepart - etc? (you will see a bit of snow at one time but thats pretty much it)
Not all RPG elements seem that well balanced - for my Hunter its seemed that the most viable way was the gunslinger, while the sniper and rogue part seemed fairly useless in comparison. The sniper path would be better on the PC, due to you having an easier time getting head shots with a sniper etc. But still.
Random guns are indeed random. For out 24 hour playthorugh i used one gun almost exclusively for half that time, just because i got lucky in a shop. While i was very eager to get the next better gun, it just didn't happen. But my friend got stady upgrades over the game. But even at level 35, the pistol i found at level 22 was still GODLY! And i doubt i'll find anything soon to replace it.
The last hour was a BIT of a letdown! Story and boss-wise.
Apart from guns and skills, there is very limited character customization (only colors and name), and you get no visible armor etc. You get a halo-like shiled and a classmod to equip.
Closing comments:
Even though I've been ranting a bit, I'm still itching to get back and scavenge for that one super gun, and shoot some bandits. The good definitely outweigh the bad. But atm i see myself buying this on the PC to do 2 or 3 playthoughs with a couple of friends over the comming months, and returning for the eventual DLC etc.
The game is good, but it is not the new diablo! The way the multiplayer component work, i would advise against playing with anything but friends - or else get ready for a world of ninja-looting, etc.
I would say this game is almost the perfect game for a lan with a few friends, its good - and with perhaps some added variety from added DLC it could become truly great
8+/10

Haha, well, we usually buy games we want to play for each other, and since I've been dirt poor for some time I'm way behind on the buying side atm. This'll at least make up some of it lol

That was to be expected, the way they were bragging about it being a big map you knew it was empty, kinda like Far Cry 2, what's the point of being big when there is nothing to see or do came up a lot when playing FC2.
