looks like SKIDROW's release sucked:

Quote:
Proper Reason:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-Both updates of Skidrow are missing important files for the Grand Campaign,
without them the game is crashing in campaign mode.
-Skidrow updates arent compatible with any prior Razor updates or
Razor's DVD release. (Sound bug,old lua scripts and etc.)
Could the first argument maybe only apply to people using Razor's version though? I believe their version was initially missing some important files as well....
Did anyone test this skidrow update?
I am using skidorw's 1.5 all seems fine. I used the razor dox too, but umm that didn't work too well. I reinstalled from scratch too. Made no differance, the razor release waws fucked from the get go also don't forget. I applied the sound bug fix from way back. The Razor one shits as it over or rewrites the campaign main files. so fuck it anyway. Haven't tried it along with the updated proper though...
I've just installed the Empire.Total.War.v1.5.iNTERNATiONAL.Update.Incl.7.Oct.Hotfix-SKIDROW over my 1.0 Razor version (which I installed several months ago using the "setup trick" in order to have italian voices and subtitles).
Well, I started the Campaign and all seems to work fine Smile .
(I don't know if it will work flawlessy even with later levels though...)
EDIT: too early to declare a victory...the game always crashes after the first tutorial battle
Just discovered with some help that the skidrow release is indeed missing some files that are normally updated through steam. Mainly esf, tga and lua files. No clue how/if they affect gameplay/crashes, since I haven't even really played the game yet due to the bug reports that started coming in right after the release (I can't believe it's been over 7 months and they are still fixing it).
they stopped fixing it actually, the 1.5 patch will be the last one. Huge kick in the face for the community and I expect their next crap installment will not sell very well.
Have you guys noticed? Razor way of patching is way better than Steam for this game. On Steam, if they update a 600mb file, you have to download the file all over again; yet razor latest fix is only 8mb - patching the file instead of replacing it.
But! 1.5 is the first patch that made the game unplayable.. UI is completely messed up Sad . Anyone else having non-functional UI? or is it the latest nvidia driver to blame here?
That's not that good when you have to start looking for all the previous updates after a format, for example. Having to hunt all their previous patch releases can be a bitch after a year or two. Smile
I can relate to that, I format my PC alot mainly because its faster than defragging...
And when I re-install ETW I stumble around my backup where a patch is.
http://www.totalwar.com/napoleon/gameinfo/news.php?n=3644
LONDON (24 November, 2009) – SEGA Europe Ltd. today announced that the next iteration of the critically acclaimed Total War™ series, Napoleon: Total War™ will be available in four different versions.
• Napoleon: Total War - Standard Edition. Includes the “Elite Regiment” Special Unit Pack.
• Napoleon: Total War - Imperial Edition. Includes Premium Packaging, A3 Poster “The Life and Battles of General Napoleon Bonaparte”, the “Elite Regiment” Special Unit Pack and the “Heroes of the Napoleonic Wars” Special Unit Pack.
• Napoleon: Total War - Digital Download (Steam Only)
• Napoleon: Total War - Imperial Edition (Steam Only), includes the “Heroes of the Napoleonic Wars” Special Unit Pack
UK consumers who visit GAME, Amazon or PLAY to preorder either the Standard Edition or the Imperial Edition of Napoleon: Total War will receive an exclusive elite unit, delivering a new and powerful strategic option to deploy in the name of your faction. Once the game is installed and verified by Steam, you can enter a unique code and unlock your elite unit, which will then appear in single player and multiplayer games.
In order to play Napoleon: Total War and unlock your exclusive unit you must connect to the internet to verify your game and code once during installation.
Details of the exclusive elite units are as follows:
HMS Elephant (available from GAME) is a ship of the line with an impressive broadside at close range. Good sailing qualities are secondary to the weight of broadside that she can both deliver and withstand.
Standard Edition - www.game.co.uk
Imperial Edition - www.game.co.uk
With twice as many guns as an ordinary artillery unit, the Grand Battery of the Convention (available from AMAZON) is an exceptionally strong unit. Its cannons have both a long range and tremendous killing power.
Standard edition - www.amazon.co.uk
Imperial Edition - www.amazon.co.uk
The Towarczys Lancers (available from PLAY) are a unique force in Prussian service: fast moving, and with high morale thanks to their self-belief. Trained to attack at the full gallop, their lances give them an advantage in the first few moments of hand-to-hand combat.
Standard edition - www.play.com
Imperial Edition - www.play.com
Napoleon: Total War builds on the successful Total War series by taking all the features from previous games such as full 3D land and naval battles, detailed campaign map, and an in depth diplomacy system but taking them a step further.
Napoleon: Total War releases in February 2010.
Amazon UK have the Standard Edition for 18 pounds. Bargain! Though I'm tempted by the Imperial Edition for 30.
fuck them, i'll never buy a total war game. i m pirate it , sure, never buy. Every time they release a broken game, depending on modders to fix their crap, while they promise and promise and in the end, do nothing and release the next in the franchise. Screw that lol.
I bought Empire because I was interested in the time period and they promised some really cool stuff. Didn't even bother pirating it, just pre-ordered as early as possible.
That was the last time I'll ever buy a Total War game. What a piece of shit it turned out to be. I honestly think the King Arthur wargame is better at this point. Neutral
