Oh, I see lots of blood fly when I shoot an enemy, just haven't really seen any wounds on their bodies. Then again, I don't really walk up to them in the middle of a firefight to inspect them.

I am REALLY having trouble with the 3rd Mission where you have to defend the town.
I can defend the village for some time, but there are just too many enemies from all sides.
When both other sides aren't defended any more at some point it's just really hard to get all the enemies, I take down a lot but just die at some point, because my teammates will be dead by then.
Where is the best spot to defend myself? I tried the nearby woods, it worked quite well until I failed the objective to defend the town... :/

Did it on my 2nd try. This game really seems random sometimes, the 2nd time there where 3/4 of the enemies the time before. Just grab the mounted machine guns around. It takes some time, and the game decides you have done a good enough job defending it Laughing So you don't have to kill all the enemies.

Grabbed it off the usual spot on Usenet, got some weird password error while unrarring in SABNzb. Back to downloading then; thank heavens for my 24Mbit/s speed.

Use the mounted machine gun, better mount one of ur soldier at it.
Place the machine gunner right next to the road in the bushes,
there will be some squads sneaking from that position.

I also placed one of my soldiers to the machine gun on the left side,
That stopped them breaching the left side.

I just had a crazy bug,

Medic just sat there, and dint heal me , lol

The fuck?

One mission takes about one hour for me.

Do the missions get shorter as the game goes on, or are you just super fast?

No, I'm averaging about an hour a mission so far.

The AI is comedy in this. Never let them drive or shoot in a vehicle. Just let the guy drive and all he would do was reverse backwards into a tree regardless of where I told him to go. Gave up and shot him in the end.

So take 2, I drive this time, someone else can man the guns. Made sure Fire at will was set but would the fucker fire? No, So I got out, got shot (not dead but downed). They immiediently drove off (this time firing) and no matter how many times I shouted medic they weren't come back.

Take 3. I shot all my crew and did it on my lonesome.

Basically, Codemasters have got into the spirit of the original OP and basically improved sweet FA other than the graphics.

I only had two squad mates at this point and placed them at two mounted mguns. Replayed it ten times then gave up.

Tried different things every time. Me camping in farmhouse attic sniping them off in distance, while one team mate was gurding stairs for example.

Think I have to replay so I have all squad mates alive.

Well, they doesn't get longer, used more time on the first missions than the ones iv just done. 7th missions is kind of a bitch if you are seen... so think I might start all over. Anyway, the one mission I really struggled with because of a stupid autosave was really easy the 2nd time. You are supposed to help some allies at a jeep... take the other one and clear the palce. Well...there where no soldiers there this time Laughing So I drove to the the place the helicopter crew where. Cleared that area and got them to the helicopter. So damn easy. Used around 5 min Very HappyVery Happy

So, does this lack of cover system/leaning ruin the game experience or not?

Doesn't really ruin it, but having a military simulator without leaning is retarded.

was thinking exactly the same...

Not being able to run when your legs are damaged was already in OFP1 right? Anyway, a nice touch.

yeah, that was in.
The one thing they left out from OF1 was the ability to give commands while running. Just seems a little backwards.

If OF1 didn't exist, I'd be impressed with this game but ultimately its a poor mans clone.

Yeah, the way you give commands is a bit clunky. I have to say though, I do really like how enemies don't die instantly unless you hit a vital bodypart.

When you start the campaign you are tasked with destroying a radar site to the south of the island.
Once you have cleared the area and destroyed the radar you then are issued commands to join the extraction team, however, all over the island other waypoints and 'missions'? appear as you discover enemy positions etc.

What are we meant to actually do, ignore the overall mission and go hunt these sam sites and missile launchers or obediently get on the chopper?

I would prefer to go take out everything I can find especially waypoint 1 (destroy SAMS) to the far north.

Please advise

Ah just secondary objectives, got it, I think I will take out all I can in case the campaign is short.
