Yeah the game world is a bit smaller than Gothic 3, unsure about actual size however but it seems to be better filled than Gothic 3 or what to say. Smile
(Gothic 3 is also a bit bigger size wise but this game might use some compression on the PAK files similar to say Oblivion or Fallout 3.)

I guess landmass wise it's more like Gothic 2 size than Gothic 3 size or Morrowind compared to Oblivion or how to say it.

After playing it for 1,5 hour...I LOVE IT !! Smile

I play it @ normal difficulty, so far I had no probs with any enemies, most of em die with max 3 hits. ( no boars so far )

The environement is lovely, the inventory-gui are well-designed, I didn't find anything that I didn't like so far Smile

The movement - combat is fine, no problems Smile

Some of the surprises even from the very beginning are nice too, hehe Wink

+1; just finished all the quests from the first area; biggest surprise for me - being able to do that without finding any bugs
combat wise .. cant remember the last time i've enjoyed a game so much, carefully engaging each mob, arena fights actually requiring a bit of practice especially with that sucky gear; and about the character starting as a wuss .. well that's the fun part.. the more easier it get's, the more it spoils my fun..
jackasshole wrote:
Only gripe so far....wish the combat was similar to Gothic 1&2, where you could swipe left or right, etc. WAY better than Gothic 3 though. If you swing while your enemy swings, the weapons hit and nobody encounters damage (thus far) which is awesome.

Yep, awesome.. btw 3 points in sword gives you "lateral blows", not sure if this is the what you mean though, its been too long since i played gothic2

ummmmmm.....just found the "world map"....and (not exaggerating) seems as if I've already covered about 75% of it......and I even had a break to watch a tv show with the wife.

Well it did say the map covers only a part of the island... has anyone else gotten any more map pieces than this?

Anyway, great game! Seems like GOTY material for me so far. Smile

@cybtropic:

I've the same GPU and OS, and the game is smooth as butter for me, no problems whatsoever.

Hehehe, harder to steal now since the owners come back inside if you go to their houses even if they are outside... But I lured some wolf into the farmhouse you come across before Harbor Town, and while the farmers were busy fighting the wolf, I looted all their chests.

Got some crappy armor from one of them, too!

Perhaps progression should be by introducing tougher enemies rather than making the main character a wuss?

In Gothic you're not some hero destined to do brilliant things. You're nothing, so a wuss. That's what Gothic is. Expecting you can kick ass right away is the wrong frame of mind for this game.

Even a wuss would be able to kill a boar with 2-3 blows with a sword in real life. Laughing

True story

My grandfather once killed a wild boar with his bare hands or sort of while on a tripi. He kicked the little shit right on the nose and the proceeded by taking his back and choking the shit out of it while it was stunned.

He was a complete badass Cool

Great idea, will do this in the future. I don't have any problems looting most houses though, get sneak skill and sneak inside while nobody is looking.

I think this is the entire game map... there is just a small island which you can enter using a bridge...but thats it ...

did not find any clues about the world being any bigger... i understand its easier to keep it optimized, bug free and "more breathing" by making a smaller map..though i liked the different areas in gothic 3 more.

The combat against humanoidal enemies is actualy REALY easy. I can kill every human in Harbor City just by blocking and countering right away, just remember not to spam atack, just time them correctly so you will atack WAY faster.

This was completely under my radar, read about it yesterday. The Gothic series is on my top list! I even loved Gothic 3..

Just got this installed before having to head to work this morning, I guess I shouldn't, now all I can think about is getting home to play this Smile
Runs awesome as well the few minutes I tested, 1920x1080 with everything on high running at 60+ fps Razz

I have encountered this problem once before i think it was with X3:Tc then i just re-downloaded it and it worked so it seems kinda random.

Looting and armor/weapons has, unforunately, never been very interesting in the Gothic games and i doubt its any different in Risen. It's the one complaint i have about the Gothic series.. Personally i think looting and exploring is top priority in RPG's.
