Yes, that's the sign. Also, I get messages about a garage working at full capacity, so you're also covered on that side.

Quote: | "The Great Game" campaign mission seems to be bugged - I selected Capitalists which tasked me with exporting $500k worth of goods, I exported well over $1.5 million by the time my term was up, yet the objective still read 0/500,000. Also, I didn't get any sort of pop-up when my term ended for some reason. It's a shame too - that mission was so difficult starting out, it felt like a real accomplishment when I finally got to where I was. Will post screen shots later! |
Has anyone else had other problems with this mission? Whenever I try to play it, the UI stuff doesn't work (like checking out the overlay, trying to build buildings, checking the almanac) at all. Even bringing up the Esc menu doesn't work. However, I can still move around the island.

How the hell do I please the US? It's impossible to do in the first couple of missions. You can't please the capitalists without a proper factory based economy. But by the time you get to that point, the US relation is already abyssmal.
Can someone also give some advise on how to start? I usually build tenements and farms right away, to create houses and jobs. There's also something wrong with the "recommended building" option. The damn game keeps recommending appartments, but half of them are currently empty.

Same problem here I also got the problem that i export way above the Amount you need to but also failed the mission. I thought i was reading the mission objective wrong and i needed to export only fruit or something .... skipping that mission for the moment

So? Just raise it back again. Unless you are talking about some specific mission or something, it's not a problem to raise it back. Set the media to be pro capitalists/US + what zmed said.
For several times already I had gunships circling the island and then leave as the relations improved.

Maybe it's a bug or something, I'll just restart the mission when I play again. I don't get any warning, it's a sudden invasion.

Weird, I was NEVER invaded no matter for how long I neglected the superpowers. But as soon as they sent the gunships, I always make the changes and they go away.

It's seven 3-MB images. 21 MB to download whenever the images aren't in the browser's cache. They still have to be loaded even if they're within spoiler tags.

You're doing it wrong. Here's my strategy (it's served me well thus-far).
For your traits select "Generalismo" (optional) , Installed by KGB (highly recommended) and make sure one of your positive traits is Diplomatic (must). For your negative traits you can pick Schmoozola (the -10 isn't so bad) and Womanizer (possibly the "best" negative trait out there).
This setup starts you out with close to 100% USSR relations. The first thing you need to do is build your free Embassy. Immediately staff it with 3 bought workers and set it to Pro US Relations. Then, as soon as your workers arrive, make sure you visit the embassy with your avatar (and visit it once a year from now on).
These yearly visits give you +10-15% boost with each faction. Now, just juggle the relation type as necessary. As long as you have one at 70+ and the other above 50+ you are golden and can expect to receive 8-10k yearly in aid. This is a massive help starting out.
Also, never pay attention to the "recommended" stuff - it's bullshit.
Here's a good build order -
Spoiler: |
Start with your embassy and garage.
Once that's built, use the Nuclear Testing edict. The drawback of lost Environmentalist happiness is WELL worth the extra $10k you get to help start out.
Next, scout out a suitable industry farm location (1 title away from a large patch of light or bright green) - and build 1 Farm of either:
Tobacco
Sugar
Coffee
Tobacco will get you up and running the fastest. Sugar works as well but it's much more expensive to start refining (20k vs 10k expense).
Once you have your farm built scout out an iron deposit if there is one and build a mine there. Iron ships raw so it will help keep you in the black while you are setting up your other industry.
Now, an Immigration Office and fill it with 2 workers, set to open until you are around 80 people, then set to Skilled.
Next, a cattle ranch to stave off food shortages.
Once you have all of that, use the USSR Development Aid Edict and build 1 Apartment. You're done with housing until you have much more money to spare.
Build your second industry farm (preferably the same type and near the first)
Hopefully you have enough left over to build your cigar factory and stock it with a few workers.
|
Those are the basics. Remember not to let your population get too large too quickly, and to visit the diplomacy once a year (toggling between Neutral/US/USSR relations to help keep one at 50+ and the other at 70+).
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

i played this game for less than an hour and got bored with it. i usually like simulation game like this one. but for some reason, i just couldn't get interested enough in game. the camera layout is kinda awkward.
the graphics are nice but i didn't care for the style. i do like the fact that you can select real world political figures (i picked eva peron) at the start of a game. the gui system looks drab and unappealing. i'll probably let this one sit for a while before playing it again.

I'm a bit disappointed in how easy this game is. It is just to simple to get a good economy going. I always end up with a Utopia. I started having secret police and public random executions just to keep my citizens on their toes.
Also how the hell can someone be a capitalist communist?
Mister_s wrote: | How the hell do I please the US? |
How can you please the United States of America? There is nothing you can do to please us no matter how hard you try nothing is good enough. We are the only superpower and all other nations are 2nd or 3rd world compared to us. While we are like that you wish to submit to us the only thing you can do to please us is DIE!
Oh you mean in the game! Just build a embassy and put it on neutral it will improve both US and Russian relations.

What difficulty did you find it too easy on? I found 125% quite easy but you can go all the way up to 300% in sandbox games.

I agree, man... The game is far too easy. Also there's not enough to keep you interested.
There's really no difference between going commie or capitalist... I usually get 100 relations with each faction once my economy is stable and up and running.
Money-making is a simple process. Set up a factory and you're made.
Military regime or democratic elections every 4th year... Don't matter much either. End result's the same. You won't get anywhere without cash, anyway, and the way to get it is by building factories, thus satisfying the capitalist faction.
Nice game but it could've been so much better.

Apparently that sign doesn't mean there are wares that haven't been picked up.
Actually it means that his building hasn't produced anything in the last year. (or so they say but since the devs sometimes crawl around there, I am inclined to believe it)

Has anyone noticed that rent seems to have no impact on the happiness of the people? If its too high they simply move out if they cannot afford it and either find another location or make a shack. However if they can afford it they don't seem to care how much they pay. But this leaves sort of a exploit you can higher wages which makes the people happy and simply take it back through rent which they can now afford and will happily pay.
I haven't gone into extremes with this yet but I do wonder if paying them a insane amount while charging them a extreme rent price will work. Of course this should only be done if you can house all the people as you don't want to pay them that much and have them live in a shack for free.

Afaik remeber they are only willing to pay 1/3 of their income (combined income for couples) for rent. Say a couple has a combined income of 27, you can charge them 9 rent and they'll pay without hesistating but put it up to 10 and (don't quote me on that) there's a high chance they might move out.
(At least that are my experiences with it)
And I'm not sure but does rent have any impact on housing quality? Never looked at that.

Very nice - however the game still defaults to your desktop's resolution every time you start it up no matter what you set it to before. It's annoying to have to change it all the time but a minor quibble in the grand scheme of things.
Has anyone actually followed a person they marked to "Have an accident" for long enough to actually see it happen? What happens? I tried following once, but 5 months on and the guy was still walking around. Didn't have time for it, had other, more pressing, matters to attend to.

I've only used the secret police to kill someone once. The person went into their home to go to sleep and instantly died when entering the building. So I am assuming that the secret police just set a trap up at the home of the person you wish dead. It doesn't say or show what happens and is left to your imagination.

I havent seen anyone die by an accident but saw someone collapse on the street after they had a red cross over their head.
The patch also fixes the great game mission so you can export $500.000 worth of goods if anyone is interested.

Arrrrrggh, the patch doesn´t fix the population cap! I´ve started the third game and always stuck at around 800 people. This isn´t funny guys.
