I noticed that programs like Itunes, Steam, and anything else that needs a connection to update are blocked. My web browsers work perfectly though. I had no problems until I installed Avira AntiVir Personal. As soon as I installed it these problem started and continued no matter how I tweaked the settings. At first I though it was a conflict, so I uninstalled everything related with virus removal on my computer and the problem still exist. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to fix this? Also, is it possible to do a system restore without loosing my files?

I'm on Windows Xp SP 3.

Thats what I thought. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with my actual connection. What I don't understand is why anything is being blocked when I uninstalled the software and even disabled window firewall.

Do you have a hardware firewall, maybe your modem has a built in fw? Did you change anything for the apps to get blocked?
