Version of main exe : 1.0.275.84410
Version of demo exe : 1.1.280.84672

Game went gold a little early, heh. Seems there will be a 0-day patch.

I hope they optimize a little, it runs good with almost max options, but sudden zoomouts are killing my framerate

Also, better leave the shadows at High instead of Ultra, and set the textures to Ultra, instead of High Very Happy And high resolutions only need Low antialiasing I believe, no need to bleed for more.

And the game tries to connect/log in, so best to block it brutally.

EDIT: Also, if you rename the entire Movies folder, you get rid of all the movies (it's just the intro ones and the background ones and the nvidia ones, so you're not missing anything, lol) You just have to click to show the menu.

Are there any new options and such compared to the demo?

It has the full campaign, the sandbox mode and a "Challenges" mode. Also, it has some option for an online profile, probably to record your challenges' scores.

The challenges section is empty for me - do you unlock those during gameplay or do you need to go online for them (think there was an option there for that)?

What is the meaning of sun and crossed sack signs?
Also, for some reason, it seems like unless us designate the building as high priority it never gets build. Did not have that problem in the demo.

EDIT: Okay, figured the signs out. Sun is actually a star and it means the El Presidente visited the building and sped up production. The garbage bag means that the inventory is full at that location and a teamster needs to come and pick up the goods.

Great game, too bad that I completely suck in city builders. Razz

Read a bit of strat. guide written for the first Tropico, and most of the stuff seems the same... No recommendations on choosing the traits for the leader tho - if I want a tyrannical military regime, should I just pick the obvious military/fascist traits or would I still be better off with the production boost stuff?

Also, about the relations to the yanks and commies - what's the perks and cons of going with them? Or should I just give them the finger and stay neutral?

I tried licking both their asses and only one at time and in both cases got the same amount of aid money. Smile
So, I usually choose only one of them. I think that if your relations deteriorate badly, they can invade you. You can let the other side build an army base on your island and protect you from invasion though.

Yeah it can be a bit confuseing at times. But i never played Tropico before.

Like when ppl complain about bad houseing but i just build a new apartment block and i can see it still have plenty of room left for more. Do they want free houseing or what?

I just ended up building more apartment blocks even if they still have room for more. it seems to make them happy.

Well, the apartments are for couples I think. Sometimes singles move in so you can see some room left but nothing can be done about it, unless you allow gay marriages edict maybe Laughing

If they can't afford the housing, they obviously won't move in. AFAIK they'll spen 1/3 of the family money for rent. This means that an uneducated couple makes 10 by default, so they'll happily move in to a 3-rent apartment, but they won't be able to afford it if they aren't married so they'll stick to tenements.

At least that's how it was handled in T1 and as far as I can tell, it seems to be the same here.

Yeah, there are usually empty spaces, because they aren't all married/living with someone else. Just keep building apartments, not shitty tenements. And I always reduce he rent by 1 just to be sure that it's cool Very Happy

Later, when you steadily increase the wages, you can increase it by 1 to the default value I guess.

The main problem I have is with skilled workers. It just costs so much to build a high school and then you still need to build a college at some point. Not to mention you need teachers, so you'll have to pay awesome $$$ to hire some foreigners.

And it's hard to find space for everything usually, especially garages and schools are very big Sad

I'm very satisfied with the farms, ranches and armoury+guard posts though. Especially the guard posts are awesome to reduce crime, protect against rebels and please militarists. Also, it makes me feel sooo much cooler Very Happy And they're small and I can fit them in otherwise useless spaces (they don't really need road access as much as other buildings)

About the construciton, it sometimes takes a long time for building to start, it depends on what the builders are doing, they're not always working. The only thing you can do it put it to High and make sure the Prez is in there when the builders are working, so that it finishes before their shift ends and they leave again.

In the immigration office, I like the "Love it or leave it" option, after the population has increased to good levels, many dissidents just decide to gtfo.

Good motherfucking ridding, fuckers.

Oh thank god for iron mines. I started an island on sandbox mode and knew I needed a source of income badly. So I built on iron mine and was like come on you stupid thing give me some money. So a year or two goes by and I am getting barely any money. I go into debt, pay off the world bank with US aid. Finally a ship comes... exported 23k worth of goods, most of it iron. Finally the thing started paying off and saved my island.

Cigar factories! They're the solution to all your financial problems. A single factory exported goods worth 1.8 million in 30 years. It's insane.

It pops up when it's time for an election. It is a campaign speech. You can't do it all the time.

I should have done the election edict and in the speech I could fix things up a little with the US, also I would win (I think!) and things would be all dandy with everyone. I was waiting for the election question to pop up, but ... nothing.

That's the way to increase liberty, right ? With elections ?

Where's Juanito?

In the demo he would chime in every few minutes with some smart remarks. On this retail it seems he only talked once during the beginning of the first island. Also, does anyone have a problem with their resolution resetting every time they start the game?

About the challenges, I think it's an online component. The idea, as far as I gathered, is that players should be able to design challenges (scripted events and chains) and upload them through the game (maybe coupled with maps/map settings), pretty good idea if it actually works.

No problems with res here, though the game seemed to automatically get my desktop resolution and use it in-game, so I never changed it. Also, Juanito has been pretty silent on some maps for me too, though he talks a lot on other missions. He seems to be talking a lot more when you fuck things up though.

Anyway, the game is just brilliant, definitely a buy for me. Compared to another recent remake/sequel it feels even more brilliant. While the list of big changes compared to Tropico 1 isn't huge, just stuff like working path-finding and roads which stops the Tropicans from taking years to go about their business makes the game feel like a big improvement.

Also, anyone dared trying to go online yet to check out challenges et al? While I'm on VPN 24/7 I still feel reluctant in case it fucks up the game somehow.

And about liberty, in case you have lots of guard posts/police stations, sensitivity training seems to help a lot.

Asshole yanks invaded me too. Was just on the verge of making an alliance with the ruskies when I got the game-over window. Sad

Maybe I shouldn't have blamed those two assassination attempts on them. Smile

And I was just slowly climbing out of the startup ditch. Already got most of the needs covered, happiness was at a stable 50%, got a steady income from my oil-well and cigar factory, so everything was starting to look up...

My main problem right now is I need to build another construction place. I have so much money I want to spend on things, but not enough people to build the things I want. I'm trying to get an entire tourist section of my island built and they have two hotels and a dock and nothing else. Just got a power plant so I can start getting some of the more advanced buildings. I have a real lack of college educated people though to work at some of these places. And the military is complaining our army is too small, so I am going to need another college educated general. I should hire more professors for my college I guess.

I feel you, man. Damn US gunships sailing around my fine island like sharks !

Too bad I can't rig my fishing boats with explosives and go kamikaze on their asses !

I have to say, the most difficult thing in this game is getting skilled workers. Many times I'm stumped and have to pay lots of moneyz for experts Sad And they take some time to come, as well.

Damn, now I have to restart the 2nd mission again, got to get that embassy working pro-US earlier so it doesn't get too bad. And if it does, then call elections, even if they're rigged.
