been playing the game for some hours now, very awesome. played 3 campaign mission now some are hard if not impossible to beat the first time unless you know what happens when and howto counter it in time. also multiplayer via gamespy without cdkey check, multiplay looks rather dull tho only deathmatch as far as i can tell

So.. is there anything besides the campaign? Like a free play mode or skirmish on randomly generated maps of your choice?

lol are you joking???? 6 missions with static objectives like the one in the demo?
So basically the entire game is pointless then? Cool.
Im gonna hope you are lying and didnt actually play the game yet.

There's 6 campaigns iirc, each with a bunch of missions
No random maps but there is full multiplayer support. I would guess on a couple of scirmish maps as well

Edit: from the site

- Play through a campaign with 16 missions divided into 4 chapters, as well as a few quick missions and a variety of multiplayer maps.

Well okay then grinhurt
"as well as a few quick missions" could mean like Standard Large Map and Standard Medium Map.
"a variety of multiplayer maps" hopefully consists of maps that can also be played alone if no other players join. Or would you really fight other players? hah, crazy!

Hmm, I had no knowledge of this game's existence, and never played the first one.

What a pleasant surprise to get excited about it all of a sudden when it's so close to release. Wink

I never played the original either and was very close to ignoring this one, but it was such a small demo (hah! small being 600MB.. jesus, we've been spoiled these days) that I figured I'd give it a try.

Very pleasantly surprised, now I'm all excited for release! ^_^

as an old gamer, that had been playing in original and add-on, and tried this one, can say that its not the game that could be sequel for Majesty for me...too many bugs, too many good things that attracted on gameplay are simply forgotten, a lot of monotony in gameplay and game world, stupidness AI as heroes as creatures, only 16 missions campaign, and poor "skirmish", strange multiplayer(but it is) and ugly for 2009 year graphic that based on Men of war physics(as u know what is it in u ll understand(Y?)) but: strategy with such type of control is a wonderfull idea and it always will be interesting, so, like a game and not sequel its pretty good cause of idea and not realisation...in my opinion - very wet game
ps and do u know that rus version is secured by starforce online activation? its impossible to crack...but 1 key - 3 activations in one time(not only 3, deactivation can be used many times) Rolling Eyes

Jup, there's no random map generator, it was a big shock to the fans of the game at the paradox forums.

Damn....

And, LOL. This guy rips a new one;

Quote:

kamrad, I mean no hostility to you, but I am very disappointed by the news you're bringing to this forum. I have no idea what relationship you have to the devs, or what experience you have with Majesty 1, but you should note;

Majesty 1 freeplay mode didn't use random maps, you picked a pre-built map to use. Not being able to produce random maps is therefore no reason for Majesty 2 to not include Freeplay.

I see you're now using the word 'patch' before you used the terms 'add on' and 'update' I don't want to get pedantic, but make your mind up. I may be from England but I play games from all over the world and I know the difference between an add on and a patch.. if freeplay mode isn't in the initial release, I highly doubt it will be included as a free patch.. it will either be forgotten about while the devs grab their money and run, or it will be included in an expansion which will cost money.

Tou-fucking-ché!!

Umm.... not good?

Quote:

Anyway, even if the free-play mode will be included into paid add-on, in addition to new maps, heroes, campaign and so on - then so? Can it really be bad? With all my respect, I don't think so.

That's someone who works for the company that is developing the game.

Here's to the death of full-content games, and the rise of cut features that require pay-for addons! YIPPEE!! >_>

I am an old gamer as well that played Majesty 1 and the expansion and I like this incarnation.
This one has more things to upgrade. . . tons more actually.
As for the AI, the heroes in Majesty 1 weren't much brighter. trust me. I been playing the 1st one again. The only notable difference between this one and the first is that the Rangers were more prone to explore on their own.
I think they improved the whole upgrade system a lot. i like the interface improvements. I think it is FAR easier to keep track of the heroes and what they are doing in the new one.
The graphics are far nicer than the original. Far Far FAR nicer. And of course, I am sure if they had made a Crysis like engine for the game, people would have performance issues.
Shrug. So far, to me, it seems like a worthy successor. Anything that seems missing could be added with an expansion pack and hence why i will support the game with a purchase.
My opinion might change with the full game, but i don't see how.

EDIT: I am disappointed that the same thing that was in Majesty 1 (free play mode) isn't in this one. But, not enough to make me not buy it.

*sides with Big_Gun*

I even purchased Majesty again through Impulse because the original works iffy with XP and Vista.
Again it was an absolute blast to play. Hell, even the heroes stupidity was funny.

Btw:

"Hello all,

It seems like the leaked demo (which we are still trying to find out where it leaked from) is not the latest updated version of the demo.

If you want to make sure to get the CORRECT demo that was intended for release you can find it on Fileplanet and it can will also be widely available on other sites later today."

Might be a few differences, not sure, still downloading.

What boggles me is why someone else hasn't tried this type of gameplay with some other game incarnation.

Could you imagine a game with the deepness of say Anno 1404 but set in medieval fantasy and having little heroes like Majesty? Shocked

THAT would be cool.

Only other thing i can think of that comes close is Dwarf Fortress.
And, unless you like ASCII graphics, it is pretty hard to look at.
Dwarf Fortress would absolutely rock even if it had the graphics of Majesty 1.

Why did you have to mention DF? Now I have to go and play some, lose about 7-8 hours of my life just ordering dwarves around.
Well. I had some theories and ideas I wanted to test out anyway...
(there are some not so bad graphic sets for DF so you don't have to play it in ASCII - unless you want to Wink )

/back on topic
btw. when I try to scroll over the map in the demo the scrolling kinda "stutters" not in the sense of a FPS drop but more as if the game didn't want to allow me to move over the map? Using the minimap is fine but neither scrolling at the edge of the screen nor using WASD works properly O.o

yeah. i know about the graphics sets and stuff, but still... they aren't animated or anything. better than ASCII for sure.

I liked the game, was kinda new style of game for me.

I only have one fear for this game and it is that it will feel very repetitive, if the enemy system is the same on all maps as it where on the second mission. But it will still be fun for a week or two Smile

Also its a bit frustrating not being able to choose what hero to send on what mission, but i guess that's one of the things that makes this game new Smile

Also one question, if you create a party of lets say 4 heroes, how do you use them. I mean if i put an attack order with 500 gold on it and maybe 1 or 2 heroes will be interested, so for the 4 man party to go on a mission you need to put LOTS of gold as bounty? Or do the party count as 1?
