"A newly found deep ocean worm 'can cast off green glowing body parts, a move scientists think may be a defensive effort to confuse attackers. Researchers have dubbed the newly discovered critters "green bombers." ... The first of the new species has been given the scientific name Swima bombiviridis. ... [T]he worms are able to regenerate the body parts.' So, it's a naturally occurring animal that rips off its arms and throws them, and we're not talking about a game from ID Software ?"

Same here, I'm a total freak about that, I'm especially freaky about octopuses, just imagining what kind of sizes there are way deep. Ever since they found that huuuuuuge dead one washed up on a shore. Just think how fucking scary it would be to encounter a huge octopuss...
Imagine double the size of this one...

And the famous one:

Fucing hell...

Vampire Squids are awesome too, they are not very big though.

More monsters

Quote:
Giant jellyfish like this one are taking over parts of the world's oceans as overfishing and other human activities open windows of opportunity for them to prosper, say researchers.
In this photo, a diver is attaching a sensor to track a monster Echizen jellyfish, which has a body almost 5 feet across, off the coast of northern Japan.
Jellyfish are normally kept in check by fish, which eat small jellyfish and compete for jellyfish food such as zooplankton, researchers said. But, with overfishing, jellyfish numbers are increasing.
These huge creatures can burst through fishing nets, as well as destroy local fisheries with their taste for fish eggs and larvae.

Like the X-men's Wolverine extending his claws, the Spanish ribbed newt slashes through itself with its sharp rib bones to create defensive spines, according to a new study. [...] Egon Heiss, of the University of Vienna, and a team of Austrian scientists have shown that the newt is actually rotating its ribs forward until their spear-sharp points pierce through warts in the animal's skin. [...] The study didn't find any permanent pores or openings in the animals' skin, which means that the newts are piercing through their own bodies each time the spines deploy.

And now mine favorite... Rare tongue-eating parasite

The fish has teeth and looks like it's out of an Alien's film. Then there's the freaky looking parasite thing to make it look even stranger..

I find myself awake at like 4am because I'm stuck on some TV show where they are looking for a giant squid or something larger. I know they aren't going to find anything on that particular show but I still can't stop watching.
