|
 |
Hey guys,
Has anyone read anything about the region restrictions of the PSP, I have seen a few things dotted around that suggest there are no restrictions, however I am also seeing contending information saying there will be regional restrictions in place?
Quote: | Access Control: Region Code, Parental Control |
Taken from the PSP press release.
Quote: | The official story: See below.
What we heard: Following the PSP's launch in Japan on Sunday, there was much confusion about whether the PSP would have a split personality. The majority of reports said the device would allow region-free gaming but slap the usual geographic restrictions on premade audio and video content on its universal media discs. However, when consumers got their hands on copies of Ridge Racers, they noticed a big old Region 2 logo on the back. Luckily, GameSpot was on hand in Japan over the weekend for the PSP's launch. None other than Sony chief technology officer Masa Chatani told us that, "for now," the PSP will be region-free for gaming "because people who travel around the world may want to pick up games in different territories." Japanese Sony reps later confirmed to GameSpot that the premade audio and video discs for the device would be region encoded.
Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus.

From game spot. Who do we trust? Also, does anyone know what a good price for a PSP import is? Ive been offered £320, and I can't say I know how good that is ..
Thanks

So did u have a Memory Stick Duo, if so then how is it? |
Yeah I got the "Value Pack" (Value my ass..), it only came with a 32mb stick, but thats perfect for save games (from what I remember my Ridge Racers save hits about 300k). You will have to buy a mini USB to USB lead to connect it up to your PC (Im going to e-mail around work, someone will have one in the building) so I havent tried out its music playing features yet, if I manage to get a lead today Ill test it tonight and let you know. I've been looking into a 1gb stick, I think with that the console will be well worth the £300 I paid, as it will then play movies/mp3/GOOD games.. what else could you ask for?! The sticks do cost about £200 in the UK though, well, thats about the price I have found them for, if you know cheaper let me know! I was also playing with the wireless last night, as none of the currently released games support access points yet (no net play) its a little bit of a ball ache. My PC and PSP connected just fine, no hassel at all, however I didnt have the time to configure XLink Kai ( http://www.teamxlink.co.uk : it is a VPN style application allowing many people to "appear" close to each other (on the same network at least)) fully to allow me to play online. That program does look very promising, I could see there where 5 people in the UK playing Ridge Racers at the time I wanted to play (1am) so Im guessing more people will be on at different times.
All in all, I am becoming more impressed with the machine by the day, and I am using it much more. Once I get the mini USB lead and a larger duo I will find it 100x more useful! I can only imagine hehe! I might then use the 32mb for a photo album of some sort !

Yeah I read about this, but they are saying you will have to pay for the upgrade. I think charging for a firmware update is a hugely wrong thing to do, but we shall see. I dont recall it saying e-mail access, only word proc, web browsing and a calculator. Either way, I wont be trying to net release as this thing cost far too much to break with a crappy firmware update haha.

Quote: | For the unfortunate users who installed the patch and turned their PSPs into expensive and rare pieces of trash, Sony announced that its warranty is still in effect and that the machine can be fixed--for a fee. |
Quote: | However, Sony's admission that the patch is official confirms rumors that the company is planning a host of new functionalities for the PSP. Listed below are the function names that are displayed on the screen before the final steps of the patch's installation process, as reported by curious users who installed the patch and rendered their PSPs useless. While the list does not guarantee that these options will come to the PSP in the future, it suggests future multimedia applications Sony is considering for the handheld:
Artificial voice engine for reading text
SonicStage music download system
News download system
Calculator function
Voice chat function
Three internal PSP games
Shougi [Japanese chess game]
Big Bang Bang [alien-shooting game]
PSP e-mail software
PSP word processor
PSP Web browser
PSP schedule software
Bug fix 000
Bug fix 002 |

There you have the info. The fee talk was about the fix and I am sure Sony wants all their PSP users to be on the same firmware so it is easier for the Developers.
