Well I kinda agree that's it's just a bonus and I'm a relentless PC-gamer that has no plans whatsoever to buy a console the next 20 years. In my opinion there's nothing you can do on a console that can't be done much, much, much better on a PC, but physX is really nothing more than a bonus from what I've seen. Then again I always have pretty good hardware installed on my box.

Is destructible floor tiles, flying paper and wavering banners cool? Hell yes, but they're nothing more than a bonus. Does this bonus make the game any more fun? It certainly does. What sane person doesn't like a bonus? That's the concept behind bonuses Very Happy

can't blame him, the delay was absolute bullshit and anyone that actually believes it took an extra few weeks to put in 1 line of code is dillusional.

physx was already in the game, it was even in the demo, the most they are PROBABLY doing is trying to optimize the game, as for it being delayed because of physx? ya ok.

Control and marketshare. Microsoft wants you to play the game on their console, they don't see Windows as a gaming platform as such, which is stupid of course.
But the fact is they're willing to pay publishers to hold back a release for a while for the pc, and get the 360 version out first.
I worked for them so I have a knowledge of how they work Smile

You've got no proof, just speculations. And without a proof your speculations are as delusional as someone who believes they needed extra weeks.

Demo is a different thing. If you didn't know demo is not just a small cut from the game, they actually have to develop it from scratch as a tiny tiny game, if you will. Maybe they implemented physx for demo but needed extra time to do that for full version. Once again, you are speculating, and so am I.

Clearly you've no clue about game development, you don't develop a demo from scratch. Demos share the same codetree as the full version. Doing it the other way around is just plain silly and a waste of time and resources.
Usually you compile with a flag that enables or disable features, like a demo flag.

I didn't mean from scratch as completely from nothing. Yes they use assets (levels, models etc.) from the main game, but they still have to treat demo as a separate game. Revrite scripts, menus, etc etc. Takes lots of time just to make the demo. Many devs complained that making demo is time consuming and often a big time waste that could be used for the main game.

It's still the same code tree eventhough you make different menus and scripts, thats part of the revision control, physx being a library used in said codetree.
So a demo will be one revision of the maintree.

Yes and placing these physx effects for 15 minute demo takes a lot less time than for the entire 10 hours game, don't you think? Thus extra developments weeks for the full version.

The effects are already in the game, physx gets statically linked. Of course editing the levels and placing them, if they did not already include them as objects from the start, could take time. But that is amateurish Smile and they don't come off as being amateurs.

Well, it's not like they develop something for 3-4 years and in the last line of production they decide to put physx in it. As natan pointed out pages back physx integration in ue3 is easy and foremost a quick process. Hell, dice dx11-coded their bad company 2 for 3 hours! So why would physx take more time especially when it's known for years and used frequently with lots of games out there.
Obviously the main plot was just to rls the consoles' version first, pc second.

Developing a demo can in some cases take upto three months, oftentimes they separate a coder or two from the main staff to work on compiling, optimizing and making sure everything works right. And don't come and say that it isn't the case. You have no idea how many months it could set back a project, if you deside to do a demo. So i'm kind of with glottis on this.

Although, logically, ofcourse they don't want to give the "pirates" the game first. Many companys have stated that the sole reason for releasing later on the PC in some cases are because of pirates and loss in sales. Althought development on consoles was probably the main concern, a few extra weeks of tinkering and optimizing is certainly more believable than just plain holding the game off.

What "tinkering and optimizing"? Demo run well. Or was it that sole developer that was allocated especially for the demo that did some miracle work specific to the demo to make it optimized?

Oh, here's another idea. Maybe the are actually putting paper by paper, tile by tile, smoke particle by smoke particle? Yep, that must be it!! Laughing

Why are people always looking to find excuses when none are needed?

Yes a demo can take upto three months, sometimes even a week, and in the case of Duke Nukem forever, maybe a year!, you know why that is? because skill and project size varies, meaning the time frame is variable!

Of course I can't know how long it will set back a project, as I nor you know the size and scope of their studio and how well managed their project is.

All I know is how stuffs been done where I've worked in the past, and from the people I've come to know and talk with.

It's true that some of the developers of games whose PC version was delayed have stated that they did it to avoid day-1 piracy of the game. And those that did not simply didn't want to mention that fact, like it seems to be the case with this game Razz

However, what they don't seem to see is that they are creating the "self-fulfilling prophecy" effect: They whine that PC versions don't sell as much as the console counterparts (mainly for a piracy concern as i already stated, but sometimes is also because you can't shove a crappy game to a PC gamer like you can to the average console gamer), and as such they delay that version.

What happens then is that one or two months later the game comes out, only yo find that many people simply said "screw it, I'm getting it for the X360/PS3" long before.
Add to that the fact that the hype had diminished to nearly NIL (No more reviews, no more videos, no more ads. Old game).
The result: Low sales. Congrats, you just created the situation that proved your point Rolling Eyes

Anyway if I survive the lynching and I know it probs belongs in the console thread , but I just want to say without giving away too much those of you waiting forthis game are in for a genuine treat.

After playing the demo I was not convinced , but am a game junkie so wanted to check it out , I got the game home at about 3 pm and first 10 to 30 mins of play and apart from the excellent graphics and style of presentation i was not overly impressed, it was good but not epic.

Fast foward to 2 AM in the morning , and I had to force myself to go to bed, the game suprised me with treats reminiscent of the Max pain / nightmare sequences, excellent gadgets and moves that had Splinter cell written all over them, and various other aspects that where very welcome , the game is not without its faults and has a minor repetive aspect to it , but it seems to me it managed to take a lot of elements of what former grade A titles had done , mixed them up in one game and for the most part got it all right !

Anyway no spoilers here , will play on PC too, but you are in for a treat and ther hype for once , is almost justified Smile

Agree with everyone who liked the game.

They pretty much got it perfectly right and even if there is a few things I would have wanted ( like more upgrades, a bit more playtime and better boss fights), I still find it to be really good.

9/10 from me

That's an early beta, it doesn't include all the gameplay improvements from PhysX, just some paper pushing, breaking tiles and some smoke...
