Yeah, ranking up is way too hardcore in BF2 and BF2142. And in other games it's too easy, such as CoD4 (without prestige), Bad Company etc. I think Gears of War 2 nailed ranking up perfectly.

Not sure what you mean by bunny hoppers as you lose 1/3 of sprint energy when jumping and can't even shoot. As for dolphin diving it's being addressed in 1.50.

I don't know what kind of misconceptions you had but BF2 was and is extremely popular online game.

I've been playing the demo and what bugs the fuck out of me is the bunny hopping nade/c4 spamming and dolphin divers. Oh and of course the piss poor hit detection.
The hit detection is odd, I can head shot a guy driving a boat from 100 meters, but if the guy is close to me even if I put the sights right on his chest or head it doesn't register.
Hopefully BF3 won't have any of this shit.

Haven't heard otherwise. People who' have been playing the dame since the demo came out say hit detection is still extremely poor, and in a FPS, poor hit detection is a no-no.

Can't agree with your there as I bought the game on day 1 and hit detection was tweaked a lot since then. Getting tweaked even further with patch 1.50.

How the heck did they "destroy" a game for you? You wasn't required to buy them. It's not like everyone suddenly stopped playing BF2 vanilla just because booster packs were out or something. Overreacting much?

And that's just my comment on your view. If you don't like your views getting commented upon, don't post.
You still didn't answer my question... How/why did booster packs destroy a game for you?

I didn't know I was required to answer your question. I merely expressed my view, and as your original post directed towards me was quite condescending you can pretty much go whistle.

The Great Wall (EF) is a good map. I don't remember others much as I only played booster packs briefly when they worked for free with a crack.

I stopped playing this christmas and by that time it was still a very alive game, armored fury and especially EF were sort of dead unfortunately but vanilla and SF still rocked.

Cracked servers for BF2 are pathetic. Get a cheap cdkey it's worth every cent, especially with upcoming update.

I bought a cdkey for a shitty EA Store from G2Play without knowing I would need to have stupid EA Download Manager running in order to play the game....

You don't need to use stupid EA Download Manager. You can simply use cdkey with DVD version of the game (along with mini image).

It doesn't work. It's a Complete Edition that have own CD key that doesn't work with retail Battlefield 2.
I managed to decrypt the key from registry using http://aluigi.org/pwdrec.htm#cunprot Tried it with the keygen and it decrypted the right key, so I presume encryption algorythm for storing cdkey in registry is same for Complete Edition too.
Btw. g2play sends only ea store key, that unlocks BF2 game in your EA store profile. You can then download the game and it also installs and inserts the cd key alone. This key is encrypted in registry, so this is why I had to use the decrypter.

Complete collection is also out on DVD, did you try that? There's another trick you could try. Install EA Downloader version and use retail BF2.exe with mini image.
Here's original exe updated to 1.41: http://www.filedropper.com/bf2

No, couldn't find it anywhere. However changing the .exe to retai onel worked. I hope they'll remove the protection in 1.5 and then I'll make custom installation iso since 1.5 is supposed to be last patch for BF2.
