I think I'll buy this for something to do... I've been missing an MMORPG in my life... I hate doing it because I don't like buying games that I'm not 100% into, but sigh, theres really no other MMORPG left to play.

If it annoys you so much, maybe it's not your game?

Yeah, but L2 is very old and playing with tons of bots is just lawl.
And new games come with such carebear protection.
And one more things that is pi$$ing me off.... JUMPING... ffs... wings - ok, new feature, quite fun in pvp, but this WoW-like-jumping. FFS....

I wouldn't say the game is particularly carebear, since players can be freely slaughtered regardless of level or location (apart from home cities..) as shown in this Smile

regardless of level

Nope, when killing someone with level much lower than yours, you will have some... issues...

If you go on a killing rampage in enemy territory (does not apply to the Abyss), you will receive penalties for doing so. This is called the Slayer System. The effects are as follows:

1. Depending on the amount of killings you will receive points. If your penalty points go over a certain limit, you will receive the penalty effects. If you kill lower leveled players than you, you will receive more points.

2. The penalty effects are categorized into two. One is a ?Curse? and you cannot use rifts. The second is a ?Judgment? and under this effect you cannot be resurrected in any Kiosk placed in the enemy territory, as well as use rifts.

3. The name of the Curse/Judgment depends on the race. If you are Elyos, you will receive Curse/Judgment of Asphel. Asmodians will get Curse/Judgment of Ariel.

4. Once you come under Curse or Judgment, your location will be revealed throughout the local map for the entire opposing faction members. Also, even if you are under a hiding skill, your title will be seen, making it even easier to be spotted.

5. You must go back to your own lands or the Abyss and wait for a certain amount of time for the Curse or Judgment to disappear.

6. If you or someone else kills a slayer, 12 nearby players of the dead body will receive buffs.

7. The killer of the slayer will be announced throughout the area chat under the format of ?[Race]?s Hero [Killer of the Slayer] has defeated [Slayer] while he was under [Judgment or Curse] of [Ariel or Asphel].

Yes, you'll be punished in 1.5, but it doesn't prevent the PK'er from doing anything.. it merely provides them with more of a challenge. Any "hardcore PvP'er" crying about that is likely a carebear in wolves clothing.

Yeah, it is challenging ;> In L2 i've dropped many times itemz becouse i was PK. That's ok system for me.
I still have mixed feelings about Aion... 2buy or 2buy-not.
I think everything will depend on month fee i will have to pay in Poland.
One more things bothers me ...why there is so little classes?
In L2 is plenty of them... here you've got glad / templar / nuker / priest / archer and that's all. In L2 there are orc / dwarfs / humans / light elfs / dark elfs - class varied between races, some skills were same, but there are skills unique for each race.

Yeah, the classes are quite generic.. took me a while to find one I was even interested in playing (settled for Ranger in the end..), but on the plus side, it gives them a better chance of achieving a decent balance.

Played in the final closed beta this weekend. Pretty sure I'll be getting the game, got to experience quite a bit of Abyss PvP it's got me looking forward to how things will play out at end-game. Made a video:

Shows quite a bit of solo PvP and some grouping. Didn't get to do any really large scale stuff, though.

:edit: Oh and yeah, the game has Gone Gold.

Nice videos mate, just a quick question however, what are the skills like in this game? That's one of the most important aspects of an MMO for me since not many games nail it. They either have far too many skills that all seem too similar and leave you feeling swamped or they have too few that eventually leads to each class playing the exact same way with the "optimum" skill combos.

Yondaime you'll be back to WoW in no time. This Aion is just like AoC, Warhammer and so on; they come and go. WoW remains constant quality in MMOs

Definitely looking forward to the release of Aion. Wasn't sold on it early, but it's come a long way. I'll be playing a Cleric and I won't be joining a guild til max level. I don't want to get peoples hopes up until I know I'll be in it for the long haul, and I have a lot of RL stuff going on so I can't make promises.

Definitely excited for release day though, gonna be a sick day at work for me Smile

First things first, you say you refused to play WoW, but have you tried it? Just trying to get a sense of what your taste in MMOs are. You say you played Knight Online, well, it's definitely MUCH better than that one. But then again, Knight Online is pretty old so it's not that odd.

If it'll be better or not, no one knows, but it does have a lot of promise. I haven't tried the PvP yet, but I've only heard good things about it, if it's good at max level though, I don't know. I've played from 1-19, and it was good, fun and for me, worth it. But I love MMOs and I loved WoW, and this game does a lot of things very similar to WoW. If you like PvPing, then this game might be for you, can't really say for sure until I've played and tried the PvPing more seriously, especially with the end game, since that's what's most important.

But I really think you should try WoW, it is a very good MMO, easily one of the best typical MMOs out there (non typical being MMOs like EvE). There is a trial, the leveling is pretty much the same in Aion as it is in WoW, though I hear it is a bit slower, but then again, I also hear the leveling speed will be sped up for the EU/NA release since supposedly, we EU and US folks prefer fast leveling to slow grinding.

Anyway, since you're new to MMOs, it's probably best to try the more established MMOs first, since they have trials ready, and I don't know if Aion will have a trial any time soon after release, and as with all MMO launches, they can get pretty messy, I know from experience. Sad

*edit* Lord of the Rings Online also has trials if you're interested in that, pretty much the same as WoW with leveling, just different style.

Thanks for the good explanation. What i dont like about WoW are the graphics and the monthly pay. What i like about Aion is that you can pay in hours and the graphics are better then WoW. But 25 september starts the open beta from Aion so i think i will try that.

Is that right about hourly pay for the western release? I thought that was already confirmed thats not how it will be..

Hourly rates has always been a chinese/asian goverment choice,, not a ncsoft policy..

No, its not right, you will pay same price as if you would play WoW for example.
When i added my retail key to plaync account i had options for 1-3-6 months subscription.
