Our version of 7 pro has a KMS key and a MAK key with 500 activations. Well 499 since I have it installed now at home.

Ah okay. Leo I only asked because the ZWT is not homemade or at least it's a genuine ISO. The Ultimate thats floating around is made up. I know it doesnt make a difference but it's nice to have a original ISO.
I like bum.

Finally, the PRO version hit the MSDNAA.
Also, let's say I want to format in a while, do I need to deactivate the key somehow before I do that? I mean, if I just continue installing time after time, from MS side it might as well look like the key is pirated, no?

They are official, it's rather easy to find info about them as well if googling around a bit, W7 isn't out yet and to download them you would need to go via Microsoft's MSDN website with a valid account and W7 key and then download them from there, won't appear via Windows update anytime soon and perhaps they won't appear until it's officially out in October, don't really know how MS will handle the initial updating and fixing but it seems to go via the development center for now or what to call it.
(Kinda like Technet, oh and the updates installed fine and everything works, hard to say what exactly they do though without having more details about them.)

I've been trying Windows 7 on my netbook, Acer Aspire One A150 (1.6GHz Atom, 1GB ram, Intel integrated graphics), and I've been blown out of my mind. Performance is even better than XP due to Superfetch allowing me to cold boot programs much faster, the intuitive interface allows me to multi-task in a much easier manner, and it boots so damn fast! Plus, no program using the onboard sound chip lags anymore, no more random pausing and cracking using Foobar2000, VLC or GOM.
Only downside is I installed the tiny7 release (only one which would fit on my 1GB USB stick) and since eXPerience have removed WMP12, I don't get the required filters for Windows to play WAV and MP3 files and so on on their own, so Windows has no sounds besides the startup sound, and I can't get any sounds on WLMessenger besides the custom notifications by Messenger Plus! Live. Also, if you install the tiny7 release and try to use any kind of home networking (old-style or homegroup), it's going to fail unless you switch a load of disabled services to manual or automatic. It's a burden, but after I did it I have full home networking again.

I'm personally waiting for OEMs to come out for a working self-cracked 7 release that has no risks. I have RC at work on my laptop and I'm pretty much happy with the Vista x64 on my home rig (wait, no I'm not !) Oh and anyone still using an XP is a hillbilly...

I've mostly played Prototype, The Sims 3 and Anno 1404 on W7 and performance was quite nice on my rig, no complaints there. Only complaint I have so far is the ever-so-often sudden drop of framerate for a few seconds while playing NBA 2K9, which wasn't there when playing the game on XP.

Hmm, am I the only one with the problem that prevents Win7 from shutting down?
I click shutdown button in start menu, I get a message Win7 is shutting down, after a few seconds the display turns itself off, HDDs stop working too, but the power itself is not cut- the fans are still working and the LED display at my case is still on.
The only solution I've found is to press shutdown on the case for a few seconds, then it shut downs completely...
It's exactly the same as problem specified here, except I use a retail 64x version:

Did you check all your power/advanced settings? Maybe there are issues with those for some motherboards and os's... Most people go through manually and turn off all power shutdown features to monitors/hdds/usb/ and all that to NEVER or OFF...
Worth a look..
will be in control panel somewhere under power etc

No dice. I even changed the settings to "Power Saver" and it still doesn't shut down properly.

Perhaps try installing some drivers for it? If there are no 7 drivers, try Vista.

Tried the drivers, still doesn't shutdown properly.
Guess I'll have to live with it until ASUS comes up with a fix, it's just annoying that I have to bend down and push a button for a few seconds everytime I shutdown my PC...

This is also not optimal for hardware health. I think the better solution would be putting the computer to sleep instead of turning it off.

I've got a question for those of you who can use MSDNAA;
My MSDNAA account isn't activated until school starts again in a couple of weeks but I can still browse my school's selection. x86 and x64 are listed separately in the store, do I get a separate CD key for each one or do I only get one CD key and the separate pages are just to download each one?
I know that x86 and x64 use the same CD keys but I'm wondering if I can get 2 keys out of the MSDNAA site.
thanks

Click “Start”, on “Computer” click right mouse button and select “Properties”, click “Device Manager”, select “IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers” group, only contains one device called “VIA 1394 OHCI Compilant Host COntroller” on that click right mouse button and select “Properties”, select “Power Management” tab, and finally check the “Allow the computer to tur off this device to save power” box!
That's a relief. Thanks a lot for help guys. Now it turns off everytime. |
glad you got it sorted , pwr management ftw!
