OFP 2 is just a name and a rip-off of the series by Crudmasters.
I don't know, I have the same feeling but from what I've seen (gameplay videos, screens) it could be quite near to the original OPF concept. Graphics are worse than ArmA2, but gameplay looks quite realistic for being a multiplatform game; there are still lot of questions about AI, consolized hud etc. and only time will say us if OPF2 will have the "atmosphere" of the first, unforgettable, OPF.
When you want realism you stick with the original designers. After all only BIS has bragging rights that the military and some law enforcement agencies use their products(VBS).
The videos Ive seen of OFP 2 thus far looked way too arcadish for my tastes.I'm also not a graphics whore either.Full on anti-aliasing,blur,radiated bloom crap, and all the other graphics candy doesn't make or break a game/sim for me.In fact I always turn blur off.I have no idea why Games use this worthless graphic trick, its not realistic at all and it can make you sick.
I remember the first time I loaded up Tom Clancy Advanced War Fighter with the overly used Bloom effects. The appearance of the whole sky and outdoor light gives you the feeling that a sun has transformed into a supernova. The effect is totally ridiculous.
Anyway we will see soon enough just how good OFP 2 really is.
Some new (bad for us) info from newest CD-Action (biggest magazine in Poland), article about the newest beta of OF2

Flashpoint definately looks better if you look from behind your friend's shoulder- textures are not detailed, and there's no motion blur. On the other hand, the clothing and equipment of soldiers is indeed very detailed, however you will not be able to see clothes or vehicles getting dirty. The view distance is amazing though, going for several kilometers ahead.

The most amusing thing, however, is lack of ANY graphical settings besides the resolution(perhaps it will be available in launcher in the full version), but on my GF 9600 and on 1440x900 resolution the game was running fine 95% of the time, even when there was a lot going on the screen.

If you press the "q" button, a circle appears to choose your commands. To choose them you use buttons 2-4 and WSAD. The buttons 2-4 choose which person you're giving the order to, while WSAD issues the order.

There are 3 difficulty settings: assisted, normal and hardcore. What's interesting is that there's not much difference between them: only the amount of info on the screen and the frequency of checkpoints, marked(or not) with a yellow smoke. On the lowest difficulty all the objectives, navigation points, and even the direction which the enemies are looking is marked on the map. What's more, any dead teammates are respawned as soon as you reach the checkpoint.

On hardcore difficulty the AI, the amount of enemies, amount of your life, ammo, accuracy and the rest stays the same. All of the information you can see in lowest difficulty disappears though, and so do the checkpoints. From the beginning Dragon Rising may seem like a game too hard for many gamers that play only mainstream games(You would like to say "console players", because the game is also developed on x360 and ps3, but saying this is injurious and politically incorrect ).

The whole game will be 11 missions, generally linear if we're talking about the main objectives. Every and each one of them, however, will have many side missions, rewarding you wth calling backup or artillery. Even though there are 39 different land vehicles and 11 flying vehicles, the game is based on going on foot. Of course in some missions you will have to drive your car here and there, but to fully use the potential of the vehicles you will have to wait for DLC or launch the map editor (I've seen it in action and it's even easier than ARMA II)

Besides 4 player coop, in which you will be able to finish the whole campaign, there will be 2 multiplayer modes- annihilation and infiltration. In the first one there will be 2 teams with an equal amount of players, while in the other one some of the players will be given a nightvision and gadgets to infiltrate a base with more players inside, but poorly armed. It may be interesting, especially because there will be a system implemented similar to CoD- XP and ranks. Unfortunately there is no equivalent of Warfare mode from ARMA II in OF2.
Not so far from what I expected, but there are some bad points like the inusual difficulty "calibration", strictly linear missions and the vehicles related part (with the annoying DLC reference..)
Taking the compass out, now THAT'S hardcore bitches
Why do I get the feeling they don't have any clue what made OF special and it wasn't the difficulty level, they think the harder the game the more OF-like it will be.
Yeah this is true, but we all know that OPF2 is just a branded name. At least the gameplay showed in the last video isn't that bad afterall, some Cod action mixed with long distance shots and vehicles should be good enough for me.
Gfx look fine, they are very crisp to be honest, and lighting is on par with being perfect as far as I can tell.. It will be a solid shooter of sorts im sure, how far it goes to compete with arma2 if at all on the editing and stuff is another matter.
But its not meant to be another arma2 by looks of it as glottis mentioned, it will be good to have 2 games of sim types to play but varying enough to make me play both thats what I will be looking forward to.
What Bohemia needs is competition. If they wouldn't be the sole player in the sim-FPS genre, then they might get their act together. OFP2 was a good candidate for this, but it turned out to be a watered down console shooter (the moment they announced the platforms, it was instantly clear what to expect).
More certeanly would be better. If they would have to compete with each other for the fan-base, then they would be forced to release the game in not just tested and de-buged, but cramed with much more new features.
Just look at Madden. No other NFL game out there, and they can afford to release the same shit each year.
ArmA2 with its dumbass AI is still a pretty fun game. But its far from realistic. And anyone who keeps bashing OFP2 due to this statement is just another disgruntled fanboy who cant cope with the fact BI lost the rights to the name.
I certainly hope the AI in OFP2 will be as far from the one in ArmA2 as possible. I cant stand another game with teammates driving over fences rather than staying on the road. Or running 50 meters around the vehicle before entering it. Or opfors shooting through hillsides with a heavy machinegun when it possibly couldnt see you, or dont shoot you when u stand 3 feet from him.
If CM makes another ArmA2 i will haul my ass over to their office and f*ckin torch the place down...

Ohhh ffs, we don't need opf 2 fanboys or any other fanboys. This game is under scrutiny cause it's a replica of arma 2 / operation flashpoint 2. I for one don't mind with competition. It's when there is no competition the game company's are slaking off.
Couldnt agree more, that only proves my point. Competition is good, too bad BI didnt get that..
I think CM are putting some more effort into their game since they HAVE to deliver. They dont get a second chance. As far as FPS goes...
Some of you guys need to check out some of the GOL Sunday Nite Op videos on youtube if you think Arma2 isnt realistic.
They have a group of mission makers that spend 3 weeks making a misson for the Sunday Nite Op and let me tell you ive been playing this game since the original ofp back in 2001 and have recently joined this clan and played in 3 Sunday Nite Ops now.
It has been the best gaming decision ive ever made as im now playing the game properly how it should be played (thanks to 2 Weeks Training) which makes the experience 1000x better and I wish that every day was a Sunday now
As for the new Operation Flashpoint, well from what ive seen im not excited at all, but i'll reserve judgement until i play the game. Certainly agree with what many have said about there being some Competition as this then gives game companies an extra incentive to produce the best game.
I agree the "realistic" FPS genre could use some competition.
ARMA stands as the only one these days after Ghost Recon and Rainbow six went down the pipe, some games ago
Operation Flash Point 2 does not look like it will be an OFP sequel and thats the shame.
Would milkmaster´s do a shooter if it did´t owned the OFP brand? - probably not.
Anyway if it´s a Cod with increased distances and free roam, I´ill certainly check it out.
matthew is great guy, chris on the other hand is ok but can be a real dick when it comes to being over serious about it all..
p.s oh and never mention the kelly's heroes match once where some rogue guy entered the hangar on briefing and satchel killed all the GoL members teehee.
