Half-Life 2, HL2DM and Source Dedicated Server Update Released
December 10, 2004, 12:16 pm · valve
Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Deathmatch and Source Dedicated Server updates are available and will be applied automatically when Steam is restarted. The changes include:
Half-Life 2
Solved disc in drive incompatibility error by removing Securom disc check routine
Half-Life 2: Deathmatch
Fixed players entering the game with a score of -1
Fixed combine ball tracking teammates
Fixed not being able to grab level designer placed combine balls with the physics cannon
Fixed players randomly spawning without physcannons
Fixed multishot pistol exploit
Fixed wrong footstep sounds while in team mode
Fixed last RPG shot not tracking
Added cl_defaultweapon -- defaults to weapon_physcannon but can be changed to any other weapon you spawn with
Added HUD string to print team name
Added model specific death sounds
Switching to the physcannon is now instantaneous
Toned down 357 damage
Updated dm_overwatch
Source Dedicated Server
Fixed "failed to load server.dll" error with 3rd party mods
Fixed linux dedicated server crash on some GLIBC versions
Fixed dedicated server error in certain localized languages

LOL. I guess they figured it had been WAY pirated anyway. Guess this means legal users can make backups now.

Guys, check out this map. It's one of those higher quality homemade ones. It's called Dockside and it's still in beta phase.

Check out this one too which is a remake of Zen Sahere. Filename is dm_zen-sahare.bsp and it should be found in the map pack from Gamershell.

I just tried Hl1 source from the collectors edition and I must say that Valve were very lame on this on. Shame on them. It's total crap for anyone who played the original. They could've at least fixed some better textures, audio etc. I'm very glad I didn't pay for this one.

Hey guys, what were the commands to put in the autoexec.cfg again to enable/change/select the begining animated menu AND to automatically enable the console ?? I put these in;
sv_unlockedchapters "2"
con_enable "1"
but, it's still only the first animated menu that shows.

Why bring back that old thread? you could have used the other one..
animated menu = ?
A easy way to bring to console on start is starting the game with
hl2.exe -console
then if you want to unlock all the chapter write in the console
sv_unlockedchapters 15
if you're a bit bright you'll notice that setting a 2 there only unlock the first 2 chapters..

Will give me the third menu on startup? Is the command correct?

All of them, and they have to be installed in the correct order
1. = protocol 7 update
2. = Deathmatch addon
then update 3, 4 and 5

grabin these updates is completly useless since your game will still not be fully upgraded yet and you will not be able to play online! use ppatcher instead it's soo much more easy..

hmm, just a quick question, I have the vengance CD release working fine (no updates or patches), but I have a friend that has the retail HL2 but doesent play it much, and doent play the multiplayer at all, so I was thinking of using his cd key/serial number or whatever with my "non-retail" version to play online, anyone know if this would work? like I wouldent have to update, or patch every release, and it/steam would work like a retail version.

if he already registered his key to his account there's nothing you can do, the key is now useless and you can throw it in the fire
@twiFight : I don't "spam" this tool, I just tell about it when I see people pulling their hair off because the vengeance version is a bitch to install and the final result don't work, why someone wouldn't want to use it?

Do all those vengeance updates help the Single player campaign? or is all that for multiplayer? I just want to play Half life 2 Single player, what vengeance updates do i need to use? I think i got them all just in case anyway but dont really want to go through installing each one if its only for Multiplayer, will take a while wouldnt it?

Another question:
Since installing V's release, it's worked fine in SP, but it does not show up in Steam. Is this normal? Is there a way to make it?
I'm not asking it of you for Multiplayer... I know that issue well enough, only because I need to be able to use some of the user mods out there (Garry, namely), and it's a bitch to get working without Steam (i.e. not possible).
Any help is appreciated.
P.S. lonewolf, AFAIK the updates are all for MP. Whatever they do to single player is not necessary, because Single Player already runs at superb framerates (some say even better than the retail), and does not have any bugs on most systems. So unless you aim to play CSS or HLDM, don't bother.

hi
ok i've been outta touch wit Internet for around 2 months, so im new to the HL2 scene - just got bak from overseas.
Anyways, if someone could answer me a quick question:
I've got a cloned copy of HL2 off my mate's original (CD version) - what is the best DOX i can use to play the game! Just need to be directed to a good path!

This has been asked before; You can't use the legit version without your own HL2 key, sadly. You'd have to either obtain another legit key, or give your friend back his disc[s] and download the warez version (I'd recommend VENGANCE Retail DVD). |

If I'm not mistaken, I could login to his legal account with his name and password, I think I used to do it with my brothers computer and my account with CS1. Does this not work anymore?

I would suggesting grabbing the latest files from cs.rin.ru. People there update the latest versions of the Steam files.
