I recommend Sager as they make very high quality laptop computers. PCTorque is a nice store that sells them. The hottie right now is called Sager 9860 that includes all kinds of stuff like, P4 prescott, 108mbps wireless, DDR2, nvidia 6800 go pcie express card and much more. Notebookforums is also a very nice place for support and advice about notebooks, specially Sager ones.

hmm, u need a good laptop for that.
-atleast 512mb memory/ 1 gb recommended.
-maybe p4 or amd64? those are battery suckers, meaning the battery will be empty quick, unless ur plugging it to the wall power socket.
-a dvd player for the laptop. Nowadays u get a dvd +/- burner build in the laptop, atleast, i have that hehe.
-good Harddisk. Most laptops have 4200rpm, but 7200rpm are available. (expensive though.) 60gb in size or 40gb.
-videocard i dont know. Maybe ati9700 or ati9600?
cant think of anything more atm, but this should do it.

Ati 9600 and 9700 are not hot cards on laptops. Ati radeon 9800 mobile and nvidia 6800 go are. Some other nice things with the sager 9860 is the SATA raid feature and the 17" widescreen.

wow, the sager can be equiped with a p4 3.6ghz. I doubt that it can run at 100% load for more than a couple of mins before throtteling down.

Check the reviews. If you look at the temps on the 9860 you can see that It's pretty cold compared to other laptops even when top configured.
Here's the link with all Sager notebook reviews http://notebookforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=3.
BTW, I've totally missed the 7620. The specs are similar to the 9860 but It's equiped with a x800 card, the screen is smaller, a color lcd is placed on the cover and It has one cd slot bay instead of 2. Could be an option if you're out for high performance.
I was going to buy one of those myself so I'm pretty updated with the specs and info.

wait too weeks and intel 925 will be fully released for the laptop market, improved overall power and performance. Or go with an AMD alternative.
You may want to consider a cheaper and more powerful desktop system too. If you need any info on the intel gear, give me a shout..
