i couldn't resist. i tried two of hazar's 7 activator. the 735,970 bytes (the third one released) one didn't work. i think it's because i already have the hidden reserved partition mapped to a drive letter. i went back to an earlier version that's 213,407 bytes. this one actually worked. it flashed the screen then rebooted.

i checked using slmgr /xpr in cmd window and got this:

 Spoiler:

this is kinda anti-climatic. the first time with vista was exhilarating. oh, well. thanks, hazar. i can't imagine what this kid can do when he turns 15. Shocked

Cant get it to work. This is what it says when I click on it
"Welcome to Hazors 7 activator beta 2" Works on Ultimate only. Press any key.
I press Key..
Requested service has already been started. More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2182. Then the cmd prompt window closes and nothing else happens. No reboot. Nothing.
Runnning "MICROSOFT.WINDOWS.7.ULTIMATE.7600.16385.RTM.X86.RETAIL.ENGLISH.DVD-ZUKO"

I never entered a key in the initial install. DIsk management I just have 1 partition C (20GB)

Any ideas?

**Update - I downloaded another version of Hazors (this one is 209KB). The other one was beta 2 size 221KB. Well, the 209KB file just said press key..i did..and it rebooted on own! So I think it worked!
I ran that script (slmgr.vbs -dlv, then winver)..It says License status: Licensed, remaining windows rearm count:3, trusted time...

Now I just ran "slmgr /xpr" and it saysL The machine is Permanenlty activated! Oh Yeah! I guess it worked!

By the way I installed it on a AMD Athlon XP 1800 @1.54GHz, 768 MB of memory only. It runs fine. Amazing!

For anyone else having the long "starting cmain()..." problem too, Hazar mentioned that this is due to the loader hanging on some unreadable partitions for a while.

I'm guessing EXT3 and SWAP?

I'm waiting for his reply to see if this could be fixed. Having a boot sequence that's a full minute longer than normal is a no-no.

"A major part of this loader was found to be STOLEN from Hazar's loader! Use his loader instead! Shame on Orbit30 and the whole Win7Vista community for stealing other people's work and not giving proper credit."

Basically it's Hazar's loader repacked.

I'm guessing yes but i can't seem to find the option in Appearance and personalization panel. Tried to change themes but it doesn't remove that gay screen. Sad

Tweaks:
Disable system restore and free up ~4GB of space,
Delete hybernate file and free up ~4GB of space ( start Command Prompt then type: powercfg -h off ),
Disable UAC,
Set power to high performance and set HDD to never turn off,
Uninstall windows components that you don't need (such as dvd maker, media center, etc),
Disable homegroup,
Turn off useless system icons in notification area (such as action center),
In start menu change "shut down" button to "lock" or something else, because if you accidentally click shut down you are fucked, there won't be any confirmation box, your computer will shut down

Features:
Use Libraries feature,
Pin stuff to taskbar.

There are more tweaks that I like to perform after fresh install but don't remember them all atm Smile

Oh, and no Windows is ever complete without a new boot sound Very Happy ah well Sad

Sorry if this is a stupid question but here it goes:

Will the activation of my vista break if I use the activator that is out now. I'm dual-booting vista and W7 and already installing W7 made my Vista install non-genuine and I had to activate again(Which was slightly more difficult than usual cuz I have the Vista black edition installed so the OS name is not Ultimate but Black edition blahblahblah)

Can I even dual boot if I use this method of activation?

I can't confirm it but I think that one will break the other's activation. What the activators for Vista and 7 do is make a fake bios before windows boots that tells windows that it is a preinstalled operating system from an OEM and therefore legit. You can run a bios emulator for 7 because that's all that exists but you'll need to find some other way of activation for Vista.

Great explanation! Was wondering what the crack did! I was hoping it was not messing with bios, even if thats possible.

Also..thanks for all your 7 tips! WIll try them all out!

Hmm, that was what I feared :S I guess I'm gonna wait fro another W7 activation thing or just stop using vista, I can still access all my files so it's not that big of a deal I guess.

That's why it's always the best to do dual boot on 2 different physical hard drivers, that way one will never alter the other. No messing with boot managers, cracks, OS selection lists. Simply select which physical hard drive to boot from and that's it Smile
