Use this unpacker - http://www.sendspace.com/file/cu6bqm or download the pre-extracted files directly - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GL1DIPM3 then move the folder or folders (Only one folder in the extracted file archive from Megaupload.) to the games main folder and then the \Data\ folder in it.

Open the sound folder and browse until you find the \German\ folder and rename it to \English(US)\ (Already done with the extracted archive linked to above.)

Then change the string value "Language" from German to English - English(US) also works - in the registry key Larian, sub key Divinity2 (HKey_Local_Machine)

Should give English text and German voice, the .dialog files are currently useless but if I find a way to make the game load them then the lip-sync data will match the games dialogue instead of all characters being a bit static during conversations.
(Or rather their mouts, main animations and scripts will work properly.)

Smile

Ok, thanks one more time Smile

And this will be working on 1.01, yup?

Now every game is really short.. When I'm reading all of what you guys says, I'm a little afraid.. It's looks like a really damn looong travel.. Not good, not good..

I use 1.01 but the files involved shouldn't cause any problems wether you use 1.00 or more recent patches once available. Smile

EDIT: Aside from the sometimes quirky animations (Being worked on for the next update along with various other things, no release date for it though.) and some smaller bugs I really like the game, it might be a bit too much action for some but that's how the other Divinity titles played out as well and it's not as combat oriented as for example Sacred 2.

There's a lot to see and discover once you leave the tutorial area though some tougher creatures might block your way initially as you are pretty weak at the beginning of the game. (Tutorial section explains why.)

A lot of quests as well (Several have multiple ways to acomplish them.) plus a lot of items to collect and the NPC's behave quite realistic albeit it's a bit inbetween static games like Morrowind and titles with full behaviors and schedules like Oblivion/Gothic (It's kinda like Sacred 2 to use that comparison again.)

A bit of humor can also be found depending on what you do wether it's replies to NPC's or reading books or similar.

Game even has achievements you can try to unlock by for example reaching a high enough level or just changing your character.

Combat is a bit weak but there's quite a few skills and spells to utilize albeit most enemies will use what weapon they're equipped with and try to rush you (Or shoot spells at you.) and you only have one attack that results in a few different moves depending on how often you attack. (It's kinda like a combo.)

(It's not that dissimilar to previous Divinity titles, click until the enemy dies using spells and items like potions when needed.)

You do have a bit more choice though if you use spells and summons to combat enemies with.

Visuals work pretty well for environments (Everything is very detailed and well laid out.) albeit character details such as textures might be a bit low-res and meshes can be a bit blocky though there's a lot of animations that make them feel more realistic.

Also some armor and weapon designs are a bit over the top though that's a personal opinion, I'm OK with it as long as it doesn't get too weird or crazy.
(Fits higher level equipment pretty well though.)

A difference from the previous Divinity games is also that you can freely mix skillpoints and attribute points to whatever you wish albeit to be truly good at one "class" you need to spend points appropriately as they are very limited.
(Item bonuses help with this, seems you can add some sort of gems to certain gear to further improve them as well, depends on the items quality and rarity.)

For some reason you can also pick up whatever you want and even open locked doors and containers without worrying about any problems due to doing this even if it's infront of other characters, most items aren't that useful albeit food does help inplace of potions and books contain quite a bit of information, bashing crates and barrels and opening chests can also yield better equipment at times and there's a lot of hidden stuff to collect.
(Mind-reading certain NPC's help with this but it costs XP or rather a "debt" is added to your XP that needs to be worked off by gaining enough experience to overcome the amount of debt you have.)

Overall the game is quite a good action/rpg mix though I'm still very early into the game and can't say much about story and other more advanced things. Smile
(Epsilon mentioned quite a bit earlier in the thread.)

One more question - is any of those tuts are for patched game 1.01? I've read that patch gives a mini map and locations of quests which I veeeery need.

I will have game in a week (oryg. of course, so there will be no problem of running it) Smile

***************************************************************************

After unpack Dialog.dv2 (Easiest is to drop it ontop of the dv2_u.exe file.) you should get two folders.

Put these two folders (Win32 and sound) in the \Data\ directory in the game folder.
(Say yes when it asks about Win32 already existing, nothing will be overwritten.)

Go to the \Data\Sound\Soundbanks\Win32\ folder and rename the folder called "German" to "English(US)" a mistake in my previous description was to say to rename it only to "English" and this won't work.

Now go into the folder "\Data\Win32\Characters\Dialogs" and drop the unpacked (From the archive I uploaded.) *English.dialog files here. (I'm testing a think with this at the moment, someone said there is a bug with lip sync data which I'm currently checking.)

In the registry (Start - Run - Regedit) go to this location. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Larian Studios\Divinity2]
(The WoW6432Node is only for 64-bit OS's, ignore it if you don't have such a OS.)

Change the language tag to "English" (I'm examining "English(US) here, both seems to work, need to find the one that is "best")

Don't move or alter any files, unsure if you need the dialog.dv2 file as it was unpacked but it doesn't affect anything.

Starting a new game should show English text and when creating a character you should hear German audio in the language preview (When going from Soldier to Knight and so on.)

Game needs to be able to read those .dialog and .bnk files that were extracted or it won't play properly, hope this helps, currently checking more stuff and fine tuning as mentioned above but it should be fully playable now with English localization.

English, French, Italian and Spanish also work, (EXE supports more languages but the files for them aren't present.) for French I got a confimration that "French(France)" might be the proper folder name. (Similar to "English(US)" )

EDIT: Found a problem with the "\Data\Win32\Characters\Dialogs" despite all renaming and whatnot the game won't read the unpacked files in this folder (Tested by renaming to English(US).dialog and then when that proved to not worked renaming \Dialogs\ to \DialogsX\) the issue isn't as major as I first thought but it won't play the proper lip synchronization, however this is minor but I'll see what I can do, might not be much unfortunately as I can't affect the game EXE.

Why bother with saving the world if you can't see some T 'n A in the process, eh? Laughing

Doubt there is anything of the sort considering the low age rating (12) in the german release.

There's a lot of sexual jokes and references actually, though nothing is really shown or done, or atleast that's how I've noticed things.
(Some farmer in the small town in Broken Valley is nearly obsessed with his pigs which leads to a bestiality joke from another NPC, "Diana's Book of Conquests" lies tucked away in a stable detailing people from "mighty" richard to "little" john, another book details a great lover in the form of a ballad, two female NPC's keep harrasing one another - such as one calling the other "slutty" if you talk to them or mindread them, some drunken guys in the tavern harras one of the barmaids and another mentions getting hit on by some other drunk and you can suggest that your superior "Rhode" or what her name was is interested in the "morbid" when starting one of the quests.)

(So as I said there's a lot and I'm only early into the game, though it's not like The Witcher or anything, haha.)

As for the FileName.Dialog and FileNameEnglish.dialog files (Or German.dialog for the original ones or perhaps it has to be English(US).dialog instead of English.dialog?) the game engine from what I saw by checking some stuff in the EXE reads the .dv2 files primarily albeit some files in the \Data\ folder is still read albeit it seems that \data\win32\ folder is a bit more difficult to get loading properly when unpacked.)

A early idea I had would be to repack them and rename the original dialog.dv2 file albeit I'm uncertain on how feasible a repacker is though similar things were mentioned by other people so it might be doable to force the game to load the files.

The actual names are correct but it's just that it appears to skip loading them as they're not packed, haven't had much progress with it unfortunately.
(I was hoping to alter several other things as well but the EXE has a lot hard coded, view and LOD distance for example, can't find any files related to graphical or similar settings actually.)

Xentax board has progressed a bit more and now a packing utility has been done by the same person who did the unpacker (Some skilled guy at the torrents.ru forum from what I found via google.)

Anyway renaming the .dialog files into the Filename(EnglishUS).dialog makes them work. Smile

http://www.sendspace.com/file/x8uyez
(Pack utility.)

EDIT: Fairly straightforward, just drop a folder and it'll be compressed so create a new folder and move the \sound\ folder from the \data\ directory into it and create a new folder called Win32 and drag the Characters folder into it (From \Data\Win32\) then select both files and drag them over the packer utility and name the resulting archive to "Dialog.dv2" (Rename or move the existing file.)

Thanks, great program.

Changing "english" to "englishUS" didnt do anything though, they're not moving their lips (maybe i just dont get what this is supposed to fix hehe). Maybe i need to pack it, or remove the german files?

EDIT:

nvm, here's exactly how to do it, in more detail:

Quote:
1. Unpacking Dialogs.dv2 file with the unpacker.
2. Adding a copy for each ...German.dialog file with English(US) instead of German in Win32\Characters\Dialogs\ folder, so the Dialogs folder contents will be:
A_AD_Deodatus.dialog
A_AD_DeodatusEnglish(US).dialog
A_AD_DeodatusGerman.dialog
and so on.
3. Making a copy of Sound\Soundbanks\Win32\German\ folder and changing its name to English(US), thus having two different folders with the same contents.
4. Packing all the files back to Dialogs.dv2 with the packer utility (thanks again to IvanAls).

Quoted from sonycman on Xentax forums.

Np:)

By the way, I found that post on xentax.com too but I'm currently having problems with packing "Sound" and "Win32" folders back to .dv2 file. The packer seems to pack all the folders that lead to these two. For example, I have a folder called "Empty" which contains "Sound" and "Win32" and is located in E:\Games. But when I drag the "Empty" folder to the packer utility, it packs E:\Games\Empty instead of just Empty. So if I then try to unpack the resulted .dv2, I get a "Games" folder instead of two folders named "Sound" and "Win32" respectively. That causes the game to crash.

Edit: nvm, this can easily be fixed by adding the "-a" command line option.

to be fair the game DOES tell you about it

Overall it's a pretty decent game but there is a lot of room for improvement
- Sometimes you have no real clue where to go
- graphics arn't great but passable
- the minimap just sucks
- the questlog is meh, I want it to tell me where to go (go back to XXX, but I have completly forgotten where XX was in he first place >.<)
- I only got one unique item and that was at the end fight (didn't even get to equip it)
- the ending is cool story wise but it's pretty sudden -> another game incoming Very Happy
- the mobs hardly drop ANY loot Sad

so what's good about it?
+ the german voices are good
+ nice quests and variety of those
+ good dialog
+ dragon tower is neat
+ travel time is minimal due to waypoints and dragon form
+ only a couple of bugs (hey it's an european game so you expect the opposite)
+ create your own pet (would have liked a bit more options here)

I'm pretty sure I missed a couple of things but that's all I can think of for now.

How's the loot overall, anyway? Since if you say mobs hardly drop them, so is most of it from vendors/chests/quest rewards?

Also, are there several tiers of item quality etc? I don't remember the details of DD's item system that well anymore, but IIRC it had unique items with pre-determined locations, and then a pretty decent random modifier system for other loot.
