Does this genuine thing check just if the serial number of your copy of windows is valid?

Here is my situation. I have a laptop (laptop1) with Vista Home Basic on it and another laptop (laptop2) with Vista Home Premium installed on it. The premium version has transparency and fancy stuff that the Basic doesn't have.

The OS came with the corresponding laptops. So my question is, can I install vista Home Premium on laptop 1 and install Home Basic on laptop 2 using the serials that came with the OS? If I do this, will I be able to still get updates from Windows update?

Im not sure if Im making any sense here. Basically I just want Vista Home Premium on laptop 1 and I want to be able to get updates and everything.

THANKS!

Vista Home Basic doesn't have AERO stuff, thats it officially. You need to enable it via registry Smile

How to enable Aero Glass on Vista Home Basic.
Regedit:
HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Windows/DWM/
Composition = 1
CompositionPolicy = 2

Right click Command Prompt and run as admin:
net stop uxsms
net start uxsms
Done!

I have no idea if the above instructions work or not, just found in google Very Happy

I tried the registry edit before I made the thread. It just doesn't work and apparently theres no way to get transparency on home basic so Il probably just DL a higher version of vista.

I'm also having issues with genuine underXp Student.
Daily have to use a WGA regfile to get rid of it, till the next reboot or startup.

Im not sure what XP Student is. The vista ultimate I have have, I activated it once using an activator that it came with. Now I get auto updates and everything straight from Windows Update.

The original serial used with the 'student' edition has been blacklisted outside of the US, google it and you'll find another valid serial you can use...cant find the list i hadbut i found them with google...then all your wga troubles will cease
