|
 |
Hi all!
I just bought a new rig, quite nice Intel core i-7 920, 6GB of memory, sli 8800 gt 512 (bit underpowered, but I got the sli combination for 50€).
Anyways, until now, I've been limited to try out games that run on several years old laptop (or I dished out the money and played them on my xbox). So can someone tell me some nice game to try out... I'm not fan of firstperson shooters at all (unless there's rpg elements). And I've played through Fallout 3, Oblivion and mass effect on my xbox.
So... now that I have a new rig... I'm totally lacking games to try it with.
I'm planning to buy The Witcher Enhanced Edition (if the shop I saw it in still has it and if I can find out whether it is a MULTI instead of German [ Living in German speaking country without speaking the language sucks balls gamewise ] )
So... Please, list here some nice new rpgs, games with rpg elements, or just really good games I should not pass (new Total war ... could be on my purchase list soon, but I don't feel like paying 50€ for a pc game )

Yea, I might try Crysis just for the sake of seeing how it runs (from what I heard, as a game; it sucks, it's just a fancy tech demo).

as a game it would have been alright had they not put the stupid suit in it. The original crysis sucked ass, took 8 shots to the head just to kill the super korean. Get crysis then install warhead, it plays better.
It's nothing spectacular though, just a techdemo for the cryengine 2.

I'm also a fan of openworld games, and economic simulations ( these would hardly push my rig on the limits).

I think X3: Reunion and the stand-alone 'expansion' Terran Conflict fit both of these categories, and they have stunning graphics as well so your system wouldn't go to waste. Definitely give 'em a try (get the XTC mod if you pick Reunion) if you're into very deep and engaging gameplay - just be prepared for a steep learning curve.

you could try demigod, I lost my life to that game for quite a while, sacred II might be in your alley.
Once you start the witcher though, you won't be playing anything else. I Recommend you play it in isometric view.

GTAIV and ramp up all the settings and see how it runs. Not a bad game to play too. hmm what else.. I would run a few game benchmarks and put the PC through its paces if I upgraded.
Resi 5 and Streetfighter IV benchmarks came out recently. Other then that I can't really think what else there is that is recent.
Now most developers have turned to consoles there aren't really those sort of games out there anymore that there used to be that are made to push PC hardware anymore.

I live in suburban Vienna Got 2 choices for my internet needs, cable provided by the apartment-complex (3 gb a month, instant cut if you go over it) or hsdpa modem, with 15gb/month limit
I'm originally from Finland, there I had 100mbit connection, so these kind of connections are really frustrating.

Consider Bioshock, FPS with RPG elements right there.
You could also look into Stalker 2, might actually be playable by now with some patches and possibly mods, not sure.
If you're interested in purchasing empire: total war I'd recommend getting a steam key here for just 22 euros (although this might pose a problem due to requiring you to download the game)
so for you I'd suggest looking for games at amazon.co.uk
they're very cheap for many games (much cheaper than amazon.at) even taking shipping into account. Empire total war is there for slightly less than 30 euros: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Empire-Total-War-PC-DVD/dp/B001ASREGO/
Dead Space is also excellent, it's third person survival horror and includes item upgrade and stuff so it has a few rpg elements, and also a good story.
Unfortunately there hasn't been much in terms of real RPGs lately...
oh and about the interenet connections, that's definitely not normal. you can even get 50mbit connections in some parts of vienna and normally 8-16mbit with no download limits is normal for about 20-30 euros a month in austria.
The apartment probably just doesn't have a proper connection.

I would recommend Shadow of Chernobyl over Clear Sky. With mods, it's an excellent game, and has quite a unique feel to it.

I take it you're not playing with mods? The game is mediocre at best without them. I recommend Oblivion Lost for gameplay, along with multiple gfx mods.
