No.. It is like Bloodbowl... one of the most popular board games.
One quick hit of google would have told you what it was like.

If it was like Deathrow, then it wouldn't be Bloodbowl.

Don't confuse shitty forum moderation with the devs.

Anyway, I'm playing the game and I like it a lot. I'm playing the turnbased mode, lost the first match 3-0, but the second half was mine, even if I didn't score. Laughing

I didn't expect the human scum to throw so good and cover so much distance in a turn ! Anyway, second half I laid down some ass-whooping, sent a couple of them out of the game, had most laying in blood, then damn match ended Very Happy

Humans aren't much but they can really surprise you at times by crossing more then half the field in a single drive. Luckily they're crunchy and go down easily Wink

@Dezztroy: Bloodbowl for Xbox will probably be a bit more like that. Either that or Blitzish. It'll focus control on a single player, instead of on an entire team. In real time mode at least, that is.

The turnover feature has been a staple of Blood Bowl for a long time now. I recall I felt annoyed about it when it was first introduced as well, but it turned out to be quite good once I'd gotten used to it. Obviously designed for human vs human matches, it tends to punish very risky plays, and adds a skill element by forcing players to prioritize their actions and consider risks.

As for the AI cheating, suspicions of the dice rolls working against you have been constant companions to the game as well, especially since it became possible to play it online with random-generated numbers taking the role of dice. Cool

It's important to do the easy stuff first, then the riskier, so that if a turnover happens, you're not 100% screwed.

Remember to patch to the latest ver. as well, I remember friend bitching about the release version where the cpu pulled some crazy dice throws, but first or second patch seemed to fix it.

I'm at 1.0.13

Just finished a match 1-1, I scored at the last turn of the game Very Happy

Any tips on why the human scum keeps running around avoiding turnovers ? It fucks my strategy, when I have them blocked/occupied and they run around avoiding hits.

Also, what should I choose Defender Fumbles or Down ? Because sometimes they don't fall and just get pushed.

I'm playing Chaos vs Humans easy one-off matches. Which race is better for ass-whooping and blocking ?

Thanks for the tips Belsameth and VGA. I read the entire strategy guide included with the game last night (in Manuals/en/strategy.pdf) and it's really helped me get a better grasp on it all - especially the other player types I'm up against.

I suppose my chief mistake is I play too offensively hoping to disable/kill other players more than actually running the ball across. I thought that's what you're supposed to do with a team like Chaos or Orks - apparently it doesn't work too well in the early game or against other heavily armed opponents - I just get knockdowns.

One more question - how do I regulate what men I have on the field? I once filled out 16 players in my team, at the start of the game one of my player types wasn't on the field. In the second half (after one of my other players died) he was.

Also - is it possible to toggle labels for player types? Certain races its easy to tell at a glance what type of player it is - but others (like humans) - all look practically the same. Would be helpful to just have their type abbreviated above them or something.

I figured I would focus on Chaos as they would be easier to learn to play (having only 3 player types). Will see how it goes.

@VGAdeadcafe: Humans have fairly good AG and a bit of the Dodge skill here and there, which makes em harder to stop, especially for the low AG teams. Get skills like Tackle to help with that.

Chaos is awesome for whooping ass. They start slow because they have no special skill but are still rather good because their stats don't have overly obvious holes in them. Get your Chaos Maraunders up to speed with Block asap and get some Tackle and Guard for your beastman (Guard for the Beastman on the Line of Scrimmage, Tackle for your wide guards) and they kick serious ass. A Minotaur with Razorsharp Claws works wonders as well. Very Happy

Defender down is always better. With Defender stumbles they'll only be knocked down when they don't have the Dodge skill. with the Dodge skill they merely get pushed back. (Negated if you have Tackle)

@Immunity: Your reserves are in your own endzone. From there you can swap them in or out.
I haven't found labels yet. They get easier to spot with experience tho.
Besides that, with more experience it remains important to check them individually anyway, because of the wide range of skills players can have.

Fuckin' hell this game is addictive. I started an Orc team and I've built up my Goblin to Level 4 - he's seriously awesome. That little shit did a double dodge and double "Go for its" against Dwarves to win me the cup. I love him - in an absolutely coach like non inter-species kind of way Smile

On a much sadder note - Zug Zug - my star Black Ork - was savagely raped by the dwarven secret weapon in the cup match. The apothecary did what he could - which unfortunately amounted to jack shit. I do believe he made him even deader (frying him with a lightning bolt). After the match said apothecary was fed to the fuckin pigs. We'll miss you Zug Zug Sad

What determines pay out? Sometimes when I win I actually get LESS money than the losing team - what the fuck is up with that? I've got 10 cheerleaders, a fan factor of 5, but I'm ALWAYS strapped for cash. Never have any money for inducements and opponents are plopping down a few hundred k EVERY round. How do you stay afloat financially?

Combine your Goblin with a Troll. Throw Teammate rules Wink
Carefull tho, your troll can eat him if you're very unlucky

Earnings are weird. It's based on if you win or not and your fan factor.

Ok, I looked it up. This is what The Living Rulebook has to say about it:

2. Generate winnings for the match. Each coach rolls a D6
and adds their FAME (see page 18 ). Your team receives this
amount x 10,000 gold pieces as winnings for the match. If
you won or tied the match you receive an additional 10,000
gold pieces. If you won the match you may also choose to reroll
your D6, but you must accept the second result even if it
is worse than the first. Remember that teams that concede a
match do not receive any winnings.

So I guess you should always get your fanfactor, at least and the loosing coach can, with luck, get more then the winning one.

Inducements are given to the weaker team so they have a reason to play the game.

Oh, yeah. Forgot that. What Inz said. It's based on team value. It's also money that can *only* be used on inducements and doesn't carry over.

If you spend your own gold to take with you to buy inducements you should get back what you don't use. According to the rulebook at least. Not yet tested it myself.

I'm trying to buy a key from onlinekeystore, but when i try to connect to their checkout I get a secure connection failed.. seems they have a self signed certificate. I could add them as an exception, but I'm not sure they're legit. Has anyone bought from them successfully? Did you have the same problem?

Please help me out here if you can.. I'm dying to play this game!

And how in the flying fuck are they going to be able to distinguish the keys sold by online places vs. those that legitimate Asian customers have bought? Is Cyanide going to send a spec ops team to abduct and interrogate the mole?

Bullshit! Very Happy

Actually - just had a thought - if their "official" online store is the only one selling keys then all they would have to do is crosscheck the list of their keys given out vs. those activated. Uh oh....

On topic though - those Skaven teams are fucking CHEAP. Strength plays such a minimal role in this game compared to the ability to move, pass, and dodge. I had 3 black orcs foul a downed Skaven and no injury sustained Sad There's no way to keep those fuckers from scoring a touchdown - there's simply too many of them and each one can cover the field in 2 turns. Sigh...

Using Chaos I'm also having trouble with Skaven. I try to focus my upgrades to Tackle and maybe some injury ones, like Claw to my Minotaur.

So that they lose their turns when they try to slip through and they get dead/injured/KOed, so that it gets easier as the match goes on. Tackling is ultra-important against fast teams.

Traditionally, the fast-moving agile teams hold most advantages for winning a one-off match, all else being equal. The slower, stronger teams usually can't do all too much to stop them other than aim for 1-1 when kicking and 1-0 when receiving, taking as much time as possible to score while trying to cause casualties.

In the long run though, the strong and durable teams tend to have an easier time building up better star players, as elf and skaven teams suffer casualties and have to replace their members more often.

@Aeonfast: It's on TPB

@Immunity: Yup. Give your wide guards tackle. They're also very crunchy. Against my Chaos team they usually end up with only 6 orso on the pitch. Try scoring when outnumbered 2 to 1.
My last match against them actually had 2 dead in 2 turns. First the tackle with my Minotaur and shortly after that they tried dodging one of my Beastman wide guards Very Happy

6 is more than enough - hell a pair of them can toss it from one end of the field to the other in a single turn. I've got 4 Black Orcs with Tackle now - hardly ever works. They just do their little bullshit roll and pass on through. I'd say maybe one out of ten times or so that tackle actually downs them as they try to get past.

I also tried bashing the hell out of them via fouls - while it worked to a degree it had the problem of wasting my movement turns (you can only foul or move but not both). Also ended up losing 2 players due to red cards.

Still think the randomizer isn't random and the teams aren't balanced for shit. How is a weak starting team (like Chaos for example) expected to stay up and running financially when they are outclassed and much harder to win with? As the campaign goes on the opponent teams get ridiculously powerful players (one guy had like 6 green skills), they're given insane amounts of money (my last match on the third cup the opponent had a Team Value that was lower than mine by 10 points and he had 600,000 for inducements) because apparently their Team Value is lower (which is bullshit), etc.

Not much thought went into campaign balance me thinks. Computer pulls money out its ass while I barely have enough to keep 11 players much less buy bonuses.

Don't give your Black Orcs tackle. Start with Block first. They're the bashy fellows. Give your Lineman and Blitzers tackle and use them as Wide guards. As soon as one of your Blitzers has the ball, form a cage around them with your Black Orcs and bash their your way to the end zone.

Dug this up for you, looks fairly solid. I actually use a similar tactic with Chaos: http://www.bbpb.de/ere-we-go-ere-we-go-ere-we-go
