Hmm, interesting premise, and the trailer looks promising. I hope the director won't completely destroy the IP like he did with I,Robot, one of the shittiest films made in the last 50 years imo. (Yeah, I'm an avid Isaac Asimov fan, and I,Robot was a fucking joke)

CG = Computer Generated images/effects/characters/etc.. basically anything you see on screen that have been made on a computer (like 95% of the running time of the new Star Wars Prequel-trilogy). Wink

Has anyone seen this yet, I've heard that it's actually pretty good, if a little weird.

There is a prediction with a massive death toll, just like I was hoping. In fact it's an absolute death toll, as the prediction comes with the abbreviation e.e. which Cage finds out means 'everyone else'. Razz

Its fucking terrible. The only thing it has going for it was the CGi. As per, lots of bad acting from cage and his ever-so-brilliant front teeth.

Apparently it opened #1 in the US last weekend. Made 50 million or more bucks opening weekend I believe and every news chan Ive seen says its good....I doubt it tho. Nic Cage only has a handful of good movies.....and his string of seeing into the future is getting fuckin old.

You know I get the impression he has some sort of Messiah Complex, but yeah you're right the majority of his recent movies have been shit. That's why I was surprised when a friend told me it was decent.

Just seen this. The movie itself was good (especially the plane crash, worth watching for that alone Smile ), but the ending plane sucked.
The end was such generic shit, they could have slapped that on like every second movie out there and it would be the same. It had nothing to do with they story whatsoever.
They were building up the hype and everything so well that I thought "How are they gonna end this, there might be something new here". But then fucking

I really liked the ending myself. I was honestly grinning to myself when cage got the news towards the end there.

always like it when he gets the short end of the stick for some reason.

But overall It was an ok movie. Tough alot of it felt like it was in fast forward mode. I get the impression it was cut down quite a bit.

Laughing I usually hate his depressive type persona that he gives off while watching his films but this film was different

Whats so bad about having aliens in the film? I think the garden of eden thing was just there to show that in the film, aliens originally put us on earth.

I thought it was a great Sci-Fi film.

sure, but it was all pointless
why did they bother telling us about the small silly disasters when the fucking end of the world is coming?
and when they know the world is deterministic, why did they bother to hang around the characters to spook them for cheap thrills, when they could have just waited for them at the final location all this time

The little girl that wrote down the dates was told about the world coming to an end. I assume that the other disasters were also told to her to make her believe and prepare. She was told when her daughter would die and must have know that her grand daughter would be one of the chosen ones.

I think the reason they hung around the two kids was to use telepathy to talk to them, maybe it was to gain trust?

I think the ending wasn't meant to be complicated and have loads of twists or anything, i think it was meant to make you think, and it is meant to be an explanation on where some of the stories in the bible came from.

it's old, tired and contrived, done a million times in sci-fi books by sub par authors over the years.

The entire KNOWING package was quite damn and much better than I thought. Well of course the ending was likely dupped from other sources (we've had over a hundred years of sci-fi writing so how much more different and re-invention can we achieve?) but damn it certainly was MUCH better than the "hero finds a way to avoid certain global disaster". No.. this time there was NO ESCAPE and everything on earth was stripped clean like a fresh canvas. How would you react to a 5-10km high blast-wave in the distance that was about to vaporize you 100,000x over? At the end, I thought the alien arks came back after the Earth was cleaned off to re-deposit the animals and both kids but in fact it was another alien world somewhere else. Makes more sense as the current Earth in KNOWING had its troposphere burned clean off so it became like Venus. Ouch.

No in the end the movie was memorable on a few fronts and I keep pondering it based on what if Nature decided our time was up and a new chapter of the Earth's 4+ billion year history was about to begin by cleaning out only 15,000years+ of civilization to start over again? Our timeline presence on this planet is a purile joke of duration compared to the billions of years Earth has existed so we're just leasing time here til we're naturally erased and replaced by someone else in time.

For real. Just saw this post.

He does come across as "Holier than Thou" kinda...I don't like him (The Rock was fuckin badass tho).

And like I said, the future seeing shit is getting so fucking old....

Remember that one movie from...07 i think. Where he could see into the future and was being chased by the FBI or some shit. And some bomb was going to go off or does....it was so bad I've totally forgotten it aside and I know I watched it at least 2 times.

Absolutely agree WaldoJ! Philip K. Dick was a brilliant sci-fi writer that made very intelligent stories. Too bad hollywood fucked up Next and Paycheck. And they are now remaking Total Recall (WTFBBQ).

He himself hated hollywood, but a few great/good things have come from it: Blade Runner, Total Recall, Impostor, Minority Report, A Scanner Darkly (even though I didn't like the movie).
