Apologies for starting the worst thread on this forum ever! I just got back from the Lakeside where I have had a great day. The contest in itself wasn't the greatest , Barneveld pissed all over Adams and it was obvious what the outcome was going to be very early on. However, on the drive back we discussed two things that this competition provided that seems to be dying in other sports (If golf is a sport then so is darts!). Firstly: Taylor Vs. Barneveld is truly an exiting match. I know Taylor won on their previous meeting but Barneveld looked imperious tonight even playing below his best. It's rare in sport for there to be vying world champions - boxing used to be the exception but now there are about 63 different belts which has taken it a little to far. Secondly: There was genuine good feeling between the English and Dutch fans (I don't think I bought myself a drink all day). This is sadly missing in many of todays sporting events. I remember (Warning: Old man reminicing) going to watch Liverpool V Leeds many moons ago where we (Liverpool) won and on the way home we stopped off for a drink in a local pub which, upon entering, we found to be rammed full of Leeds supporters . No trouble, everyone talked about the game, some good natured ribbing, and a mutual respect. Two or three years ago a friend and I went to watch the same match and was told by security that we had to keep our coats on over our Pool tops because we might incite Leeds fans (we were in a neutral stand). What is the world coming to? We could all learn a thing or two from the darts fraternity. Sorry, going off on one there. P.S. Robben was there - he's titchy, didn't get to shake his hand.
