We have just started a crowdfunding effort for our game The Red Solstice.

http://www.indiegogo.com/The-Red-Solstice?a=557147

Anything you can do to help would be appreciated so we can get the game in a finished state as soon as possible. Even if you can't donate it would still mean a huge deal you if you spread this message to your friends that might be interested, or post on other boards. The more exposure we get the more chance we get featured on IndieGoGo main page and reach our funding goal.

Read about the game on the link provided and on www.theredsolstice.com, and help if you can. We want to earn enough money with this game to start a proper company and eventually work on bigger and badder games, and I can assure you there will be some interesting non-derp titles that humpers would enjoy!

Looks awesome! I'll throw some money in when I have some spare. BTW, you linked the official site wrong, you added %2 at the end of the url.

Kickstarter is only for US citizens sadly...otherwise we would have gladly chosen it. We had to jump through hoops and actually get the Croatian embassy involved to even get this one started.

Thanks Kurosaki Smile

Why do you need the 10k, and what will it used for?

I could make a significant contribution if the return is ok. Stocks are volatile atm, bonds are already sky high and all the rest is collapsing in Europe... So better put me spare money to creative (and good) use...

We need to hire at least one (probably two) full-time programmers to finish up the remaining features. Primarily matchmaking server for multiplayer games, update the website so it shows leaderboards & player stats, and also many minor features like reworking the UI and gameplay/mission scripting.

Other portion would go into audio (we only have part of the VO we need and if we don't get them all we'll have to throw away VO completely). Also pay the composer to produce at least two new tracks. If we get enough we would probably replace all of the ambient sounds as well.

And final portion would go into marketing and server costs when we finally release.

We have actually set the 10 000$ limit very low, as none of us core team members plan on getting paid from that, it's only used for essentials.

Looks very nice Very Happy 10k is not a lot, actually it's low considering everything you need done, making games is expensive these days.

You just killed any hope I had for the game. Matchmaking is one of the most terrible things that's ever come to PC gaming.

I don't have a problem with matchmaking by itself but with the p2p connectivity/hosting that comes with it in most cases. So, I wouldn't say that matchmaking is a no go, but not having dedicated servers is. Oh and ofc a Server Browser.

There are four features for me that tell me if a MP game/mode will fail (means, I'll never touch it again after playing it for some weeks) or not.

Dedicated servers
Server browser
LAN support
Mod support

And remember, if your game is really good and reasonably priced, people will buy it. Personally I've came to a point, in these days of gaming, that most games are so bad that I don't even waste my time to pirate them. And I don't think I'm alone with that habit Laughing
Around 2005 I downloaded almost every shit that was available and cracked. Hell, even stuff that wasn't cracked, just to have it when a crack shows up.

There will be no dedicated servers as MW or BF3 have. It was discussed but it was too much cost for us to maintain them, and we couldn't expect users to pay for them.

Instead server hosting is is like in the old days - you host the game yourself. Matchmaking server only serves to facilitate a server browser (primarily), and store your ranks and experience so it can be transferred between matches.

LAN support sadly isn't planned as the MP portion relies on saving your stats so we need an internet connection to the matchmaking server. I'd love if we could add an offline way to do this, but I don't think we will have enough time to implement it. If we game kicks off we will probably implement it in a later patch.

Mod support should be decent as the game engine is going open source after the game releases Smile

And will there be a return on investment? Or are you just funding the development and then release it open. If there is return, how will it be distributed amongst the investors etc. etc.

Spankie I don't think we would be interested in investments this late in development because I don't believe we can make a deal that would suit us both. We would only need investment of up to 10000$, and considering development has been going on for over three years the total amount invested in the game is much higher than that. So sadly we wouldn't be able to offer you a high rate of return.

But if you think we can make a good deal let me know.

Nah, I am not looking for a good deal. Any deal is better than current returns.

Just wondering if 10k you are raising is an investment in some way or a charity donations Wink

Crowdfunding - part charity part pre-order. You give us some money and you get the game when it is finished, plus other bonuses if you donate more than game price.

Feel free to leave matchmaking in for people who actually like it, but a large amount of people absolutely hate it. It completely ruined Dawn of War II. A large portion of people like the ability to do things themselves and not have their hand held. Find their own servers, find their own friends etc. You give a PC gamer the option between server browser vs match making, server browser is going to win hands down.

Also keep in mind your game won't be big forever, and not to be pessimistic or crush your hopes, you have to think about IF your game is going to become big. If it doesn't, then you're left with a lacking client base who's going to be sitting at the match making screen waiting for the game to find someone for you to play with when you could do it faster by yourself.

I guess if you add more options to it like being able to start a server in the middle of it looking for people to play with it would be better to. If you're making your OWN match making code and all that, look at what Dawn of War II had, and do everything the exact opposite.

These following is what killed DOWII with matchmaking.

-Don't make it so you can only start a server if all the positions are full (last stand)
-If it finds people, let it actually start the game. Instead of sitting there telling you it found people for you to play with but spends an extra 5 minutes still searching.
-Match Making service void if you invite your own friends to a server and start it.
-If it only finds a fraction of the people you chose you wanted for the game, allow you to over ride that if it's taking too long to find people so you can start the game with the few that it did find.

I'm not being bossy, I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm just hoping to make sure your MP service doesn't get botched by decisions you may not have thought out.

@ Waldo: Yes I know it's my opinion. Matchmaking has caused more problems on PC gaming than it has ever done good. If he uses it I would rather he not end up shooting himself in the foot with a broken service. He's got a great idea going and this game has great potential

Signed!

Ofc, if you don't want that your game will have a long lifespan and just want to make a quick buck, pushing out your next game asap, you should totally ignore all that what SpykeZ and I said.

Oh maybe you misunderstood me (or maybe I just used the term wrong), you can definitely pick a server on which to play on. Our system is just a server browser with some stat tracking on top.

Later we might add something that will find games automatically (if our playerbase increases), but for now it's just good old manual server browsing.

Crowfunding failed, indie awards we won failed to give out their 15$k in prize money so it's not going too well. It's still being worked on but I had other more important projects to pursue so I'm not active on the project anymore... I'd definitely continue working on it if I had more time.
