I say to a 36 year old man (fellow raider): "If you hate me boy, then your time in this guild will come to an end soon"
Because i called him boy, i insulted him (apparently)
Now please, i need to seriously know, the word boy in this contex, is this an straight insult towards him or is he over reacting for an 36 year old.
Please no joke about this, i need to seriously know this.

Well, if he was black I could understand it. And as with everything, it's pretty important how you said it to him. In a text chat message or over voice chat? And what the context was etc etc etc
He probably just didn't like anything you said and found this boy to be an angle to come back at you

Basically, we had macro to purge the boss, mine was in /yell (as mine are for the last 2 and half year), he said that i should put it in party chat, wich i refused as he has fuck all to say about it, so i asked him if he has anything against me. On wich he said "yes" and switched teamspeak channel, then i messaged him on ts chat: "If you hate me boy, then your time in this guild will come to an end soon"

i think it is colloquial and ok. He might be pissed off because it may show a certain degree of disrespect (because of his age), but fuck it. If he attests to not liking you in actions and when asked directly, he should be able to handle being called "boy" in return.
so, the short version: no, i dont think it counts as an insult.

well to me, you are playing a game "in a guild" so doing well together is a plus.. But was there any need for you to use the word "boy" in the way you did..?
I would say NO... you could of just spoke a little bit more natural like  As if you were talking to a human being and not a dog you know 
People will respond better if you do not open the chance for someone to get butthurt in any shape or form in a gaming environment right? Ive not read most the shit in here so not sure if you mentioned you're age at all. But younger people today use lots of words and such just like its standard output to them, so to the older guys and girls it can seem fucking rude as hell, belittling almost..
I think the right course of action and this goes for general life to would be to engage brain before opening mouth

its a great insult. calling someone boy or child, i do it a lot when i really want to get to someone just to piss them off (and it usually works )
so yes, its an insult, and a good one at it. well done!

Think he's more irritated by the fact that you assume an authority and say that his behaviour might lead to him getting removed from the guild, all while you seem to be a pretty disliked person in your guild, while he has been there for a while and takes care of people (fatherly figure, from the chatlog).

Comeon, you cant be serious that a 36 year old gets that pissed off about the word boy, thats just pathetic. You would expect a 36 year old, to just ignore the situation as he finds it "childish" anyawy. Why does he "lower" himself then by getting offended by something this small.

Uhm, i play with most guys for 2+ years, he just recently joined (2/3 months ago or so).
And yea, before comming to rift i was officer, i didnt want to be officer anymore, but i still have the fire in me.

Okay having played MMO's myself and having been a guild leader for a year or so - It's quite tiresome, a lot of people seek your attention. - I can say that threatening people in general is a bad idea. If a person misbehaves, you ask this person to stop it. If this person continues, have a little chat with your officers and toss him/her.

The thing is that i had my fair share of people bitching at me, they all got kicked eventually.
I have become more or less an icon to the guild, without me raids are boring and quiet, im the one that brings the fun to raids and jokes around even when things are going bad and the motivation of others to down the boss has gone down the drain. Im the one that "forces" people to atleast give it 1 more try when others have given up for that evening (and that payed off in some occasions).
But every now and then, someone has to come around and try to be serious about shit and doesnt want any joking around, so he starts bashing on me.
a few weeks ago, he made a bitch ass long post on the forums, with some key points pointing out towards me (not by name tho), at that point i knew already that this was going to go wrong at some point.
