Waargh as usual ->
iPhone is great an all but twice the HTC it is not worth it. Get the Desire Z, most of the games will come out to Android as well eventually. It is getting a large market share and it is a viable platform for developers.

My bad, I was thinking about the Desire HD. But it is always possible to buy a cheap MicroSD card and use that for memory.
The 'derp' part was about the way you formulated your previous post.

What about WP7?
It is even more retardedly locked down thank iOS (because Apple had enough time to learn from mistakes), but has a defined set of hardware specs, and has a powerful gaming platform (XNA), including XBL integration.
I see on that site one "LG Optimus Quantum" for a $49.95; seems like a catch.
It is interesting indeed where the WP7 will lead. I don't like it, but it seems to be on the same path as Iphone.

I can't say anything about WP7 yet cos i've only seen a couple of prototypes. With proper hardware like Nvidia Tegra it can become a fantastic mobile gaming platform but I can't imagine any market domination attempts because iOS = millions of devices already there and WP7 = 0.
Btw speaking about Tegra - working prototypes were shown 2 years ago multitaskingly playing 720p vids and PSP quality 3D games on a thin tablet device but no one even tried to integrate it. I guess it's like with everything on the market - why sell the top shit right now if we can still make billions by selling lower grade hardware & people being orgasmically happy about it?

Apps aside, what exactly makes the iPhone and iOS so much better in your opinion? Because I've had to set up a whole bunch of iPhones at work for use with the company's email, caldav and everything, and it's really fucking cumbersome (besides me there's no real IT guy, so despite never having worked with an iPhone, let alone 4, I figured out where to do what the fastest). The fact that to change a setting you gotta go back to the homescreen to get to the settings in the first place is pretty annoying when you're already in the mail app. When I'm in the mail app, I want to be able to change mail settings right then and there. Either there is some weird non-apparent trick to instantly jump to the settings from one of the apps, or the UI design really isn't as intuitive as it should be. I really still don't get what it is that makes Apple fans drool so much over iOS.
As far as apps go: regular apps are just as good as the ones found for iPhones, it's just gaming where it really has a serious advantage right now. Then again, I rarely do gaming, and when I do it's something like Angry Birds, which runs fine on my Desire.

Well with iOS 4 you can use the multitasking mechanism for that. Run the settings once, and then when you double click the home button, it will be there in a frozen state for all apps.

you can install mywi on a jailbroken iphone and use it as a hotspot.
i downloaded latest ep of misfits at work w. my iphone when internet at work was down.
all you need is mywi... run it and it'll pop up as a wifi network available on your lappy.
biggest downfall of idevice is itunes since it runs best on an apple machine and on some windows machine it's quite possibly the worst media software in the world.

^^ forgot to mention that. I didn't even let my wife buy an ipod because I didn't want to install itunes...
is there an "app" that lets me use the iphone like a regular usb drive? I really like to drag and drop shit, none of this syncing bullshit.

desire z = $500 - $420 discount = $80, iphone4 16gb = $660 - $500 discount = $160
so even though it's twice the price both are not even close to the cost.

You can SSH (and thus SCP) to JB iFag devices, so no worries, you can always not install iTunes and still be able to put and remove files there as you see fit.

Yes, I got my iPhone 4 very cheap through a business deal, but I'm not sure it's worth twice the price of a Desire just for the (indeed amazing for a mobile platform) games.

Doesn't the monthly fee go up like crazy for you? That's what stopped me from ever getting an iPhone. I've been paying around €25/month for years now (and getting a new phone every time it comes up for renewal), with any iPhone that would be around €40/month :/

I already have a data plan for my phone, no change in the bill no matter what phone I buy.

Yeah my €25 thing is also with a data plan, and some call minutes/SMS limits (I actually have no clue how much anymore cuz it's gone up and I never even reached my limit anyhow ), but the *exact* same data plan with the exact same call minutes/SMS limits suddenly costs €40 if I had gone for the iPhone o_O

No idea how it works in CA, but in the US the iphone data plan *WAS* (Read - *WAS*, they no longer offer unlimited data, but offer capped for less per month) $30 a month. Really not any more expensive then non-iphone data plans. Now they offer 500mb a month for like $15, and more for more. Getting the iPhone doesn't make your bill realistically that much more expensive - Unless you didn't have a data plan to begin with.
My vote is with the iPhone 4. Has the best looking screen. I like the way it looks/feels (Even though it is fragile). Has the best selection of applications. Works just like an iPod. (Important if you have a car and/or other shit that works only with ipods) I like it.
