anyone have good recommendations for I7 for mobo and memory? mobo starts at +200$...which is quite expensive but I should get at least 200 from selling old mobo+cpu+ram

considering I will be also buying a new case cooler master HAF 932(iirc) and this http://www.petrastechshop.com/pecoel.html

I am literally assembling my new PC in the next day or so and I opted for a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 Intel X58 motherboard @ £195 ($318). I did consider both an Asus P6T Deluxe v2 Intel X58 and Asus Rampage II Extreme Intel X58 but opted for the Gigabyte as they have proven to be decent and reliable for me over the years.

If price is a major factor, then theres the Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R Intel X58 @ £138 ($225) or Foxconn Flaming Blade Intel X58 @ £165 ($269). The absolute cheapest 1366 motherboard I could find was the MSI X58M Intel X58 @ £130 ($186). I nearly fell off my chair @ the pricing for the EVGA Classified mobo, £306 ($498).

Memorywise I was going to get OCZ Gold 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 2000MHz but went with some Patriot Viper 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 (1600MHz) Low Latency Tri-Channel @ £98 ($159) instead.

What cooler did you go with? I opted for the Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 @ £58 ($94). Can't believe the fan alone cost so much Sad

Yes get Gigabyte, best value for the money.
Asus have been trouble lately, personally I've had 3 Asus boards fail me within the last year, all of which were less than a year old.
The one Gigabyte I have however runs 24/7 without fail.

ASUS Rampage II Extreme

It's probably among the most expensive i7 mobo's but you will certainly not be disappointed, specially if you plan to overclock! Wink

I was actually looking at this motherboard because of 10 sata ports it has, many of them offer 6 which is quite a dealbreaker for me...man can never have enough hard drives

GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 - 280$
Core I7 920 - 280$
and still not sure about memory, never have owned patriot, my previous build had OCZ and my current built has G.Skill
Cooler Master HAF 932 - $150

as for the heatsink goes, I received $200 gift card for petra tech shop, which sells mainly water cooling parts, I will add $100 to buy everything, never had it and always wanted to try it out

Everything will cost around $900, haha i will be so broke after this

seriously prices for socket 1366 motherboards are fucking retarded

Ever thought of a diferent approach? I had the same problem but then realise that I was never going to use all the drives at the same time so I bought an internal hotplug sata case that let me exchange drives on the fly.
