I think that it's a promising work.
Baked already and an NPC will be named as Gollum.

Why? I guess it's the name of a city, kind of typical nordic name (norse mythology seems to be the theme of the game). We have both Valla and Torvalla in Sweden..

It's a nod to DSA (Realms of Arcania), where the city Thorwal played a prominent role.

Btw. Neal Hallford of Betrayal at Krondor fame is on the team for this, after his owns KS plans have been prematurely foiled (http://www.nfohump.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=79213)

I'd be surprised if this gets even halfway, Henkel really isn't all that well-known plus the studio is even more obscure (released just a few mobile games).

This is kinda vague:

Quote:
Thorvalla is a single-player, top-down role-playing game. We are currently evaluating technologies to determine exactly which approach we will take with the game. While we are set on using a top-down view, there are still many questions that will have to be answered, such as whether to use an isometric view, or a perspectively correct top-down view, or to forgo that kind of presentation for a mix consisting of pre-rendered 2D backgrounds that interact with 3D objects and characters, or a fully 3D environment with a fixed third-person viewpoint. Nothing has been decided yet on this, and the project’s pre-production phase will serve to allow us to evaluate, prototype and test different approaches to see which works best for our needs.

Do you get exited if you read top-down view (aka bird's-eye view)? In the late 90s I didn't mind isometric view but that feels retro now. But top-down view, nah. Sad

And this month I backed 3 projects already. I don't have unlimited supply of moneys.

Personally, I don't. But I know a lot of people do. Not sure why, obviously (for me), it's a step backwards into technology which is not necessary.

I agree with iconized, top-down view is something that breaks the immersion for me (especially in a RPG)..though it's still work-in-progress so maybe they'll change their mind. Razz

Also If you look at the KS page for Eternity (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/obsidian/project-eternity) I got the idea, these guys know what they want to create and their presentation was much better.

Topdown/isometric is the only way to do TB party-based tactical combat right, so yeah I get excited by it more than a nextgen immersive popamole action tps/fps RPG.

Τhe duo of calamity strikes again.
Baldurs Gate and Gothic are trash

"(Gothic, Baldur's Gate, Diablo?)
"No, it is not going to be anything like those games. I do not consider these games real hardcore RPGs and they are certainly nothing I want to do. "

He didn't said they were trash. He said he didn't considered them as real hardcore RPGs, which is different.
And yes some good people don't consider Baldurs Gate nor Gothic as hardcore RPG. One of the reasons is the absence of turn based combat mechanics.

Baldur's Gate? No turn-based? whaaaa? Baldur's Gate is Dungeons & Dragons, the very epitome of turn-based* and the FATHER of all hardcore RPGs Neutral To say that Baldur's Gate isn't "hardcore enough" is just... wow.

*BG is "real time" but pausable with stackable actions, D&D itself is turn-based.

I was just saying that I wasn't going to be spending more money on kickstarter this year... Now this comes along and I can't help but look at my Ambermoon, Amberstar, Albion, Realms of Arkania 1-3 boxes and wondering whether or not just one more would hurt that much. Laughing

Also no Baldurs Gate isn't a real 'hardcore' RPG when compared with RoA, and definitely not compared to Darklands.

You're right, active pause isn't, but to call BG "not hardcore enough" is patently absurd.

Hmm starting to wonder what hardcore actually means. Hardcore is a game where the story is more important than hack and slash, according to this:
http://www.mobygames.com/featured_article/feature,31/section,208/
 Spoiler:

Hmm then a game like PS:T is very much hardcore, much more than a BG 1&2. If you wanted to have a balanced mixture of story and hack and slash PS:T wasn't a tittle for you I guess.

inb4 Baldur's Gate marked the decline of RPGs

Anyway, seems like this is a failure unless something major happens to turn it around.

Or hardcore means difficulty? Hmm was it that much fun to have to redo things over and over and over again so you wouldn't finish the game in a couple of hours? Such difficulty is no longer viable when 20+ games release monthly.
