Quote:
Thousands of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, humankind has adapted and a new way of living has evolved. Gigantic moving cities now roam the Earth, ruthlessly preying upon smaller traction towns. Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan)—who hails from a Lower Tier of the great traction city of London—finds himself fighting for his own survival after he encounters the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). Two opposites, whose paths should never have crossed, forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future.

Mortal Engines is the startling, new epic adventure directed by Oscar®-winning visual-effects artist Christian Rivers (King Kong). Joining Rivers are The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogies three-time Academy Award®-winning filmmakers Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, who have penned the screenplay. The Universal and MRC adaptation is from the award-winning book series by Philip Reeve, published in 2001 by Scholastic.

On board as producers are Zane Weiner (The Hobbit trilogy), Amanda Walker (The Hobbit trilogy) and Deborah Forte (Goosebumps), as well as Walsh and Jackson. Ken Kamins (The Hobbit trilogy) joins Boyens as executive producer. Universal will distribute the film worldwide.

Finally some new IP and another experiment with a noob director Blomkamp style Smile

I get what he was referring to, I just wish he hadn't spoiled it by mentioning his name Sad

I mean there's other examples... Like those brothers who made alien vs predator requiem....

Yup, seen it. Gorgeous visiuals but too simple or empty on the inside. Like the latest Star Wars flicks.

Still a strong 7/10 from me.

There's too many crappy movies with 6/10 so this one doesn't deserve to share that rating.

And yes, designers and artists and even cg shops deserve that 7. It's friggin outright gorgeous.

So this movie is set in post-Brexit future where London is trying to get out of UK?

Just watched this and was pleasantly surprised. It has it's problems, but nothing too jarring, overall quite enjoyable.
I'd definitely like to see more... sucks this did so badly there probably won't be a sequel.

Seems underrated to me. I'd give this about 7.3

I feel bad for this decent movie. Way way worse movies get better scores and make more money these days.

I'd give it around 6.5 to 7.

I agree was not as bad as expected, but I wish they focussed on other aspects of the universe. Concept of giant cities on wheels is ridiculous, obviously, but I really digged the bioshock-steampunk style/atmosphere. I think the first 20 minutes were the best of the movie Smile

Obviously a question of subjective taste. This is what I wrote in "Last watched movie":

Quote:
Mortal Engines - 3.5/10

Stupid stupid movie with the silliest anachronisms in any movie ever.

But that's just my humble opinion.

When you look closely it's almost the story of Star Wars.

So almost the story of a billion other movies, novels, plays, games, religious scripture, and so on? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hero%27s_journey

Because when I think of "the story of Star Wars" that's what comes to my mind.
