Thousands of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, humankind has adapted and a new way of living has evolved. Gigantic moving cities now roam the Earth, ruthlessly preying upon smaller traction towns. Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan)—who hails from a Lower Tier of the great traction city of London—finds himself fighting for his own survival after he encounters the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). Two opposites, whose paths should never have crossed, forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future.
Mortal Engines is the startling, new epic adventure directed by Oscar®-winning visual-effects artist Christian Rivers (King Kong). Joining Rivers are The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogies three-time Academy Award®-winning filmmakers Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, who have penned the screenplay. The Universal and MRC adaptation is from the award-winning book series by Philip Reeve, published in 2001 by Scholastic.
On board as producers are Zane Weiner (The Hobbit trilogy), Amanda Walker (The Hobbit trilogy) and Deborah Forte (Goosebumps), as well as Walsh and Jackson. Ken Kamins (The Hobbit trilogy) joins Boyens as executive producer. Universal will distribute the film worldwide.
Finally some new IP and another experiment with a noob director Blomkamp style

Just watched this and was pleasantly surprised. It has it's problems, but nothing too jarring, overall quite enjoyable.
I'd definitely like to see more... sucks this did so badly there probably won't be a sequel.
Seems underrated to me. I'd give this about 7.3
I feel bad for this decent movie. Way way worse movies get better scores and make more money these days.
Likot Mosuskekim, Woodcutter cancels Sleep: Interrupted by Elephant.
I agree was not as bad as expected, but I wish they focussed on other aspects of the universe. Concept of giant cities on wheels is ridiculous, obviously, but I really digged the bioshock-steampunk style/atmosphere. I think the first 20 minutes were the best of the movie
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.
When you look closely it's almost the story of Star Wars.

Because when I think of "the story of Star Wars" that's what comes to my mind.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"

I meant:
Spoiler:
The giant city captures tiny city (beginning of new hope). The heroes escape giant city-ship (the droids in new hope). They venture in desolate place to be captured by slave traders (the droids - yet again). They are rescued by special agent and escape the slavers (Han Solo and co.) than they fly to sky city. The London wants to destroy other faction with giant energy beam weapon (Death Star khem...) and heroes fly to destroy it almost like it was in Star Wars. They destroy the weapon and most of the city. There is also a Dark Vader scene with Valentine and his daughter.
