Deleting the C:\Windows\System32 folder on a 64-bit Windows makes the game have HD graphics (better than MGS4!!). Notice the SysWOW64 folder (as in "WOW, amazing!" and "ShamWOW")? That's a hidden folder MS doesn't want you to use because games get better graphics than the 360, but if you delete System32, Windows will have no other option but to use it!

Nope.
This looks like it's the exact same fixes that have been available anyway, nothing new.

It's likely easier to just emulate the game in pcsx2 it works pretty much flawless these days and also got widescreen and shader support.
MGS3 works flawless as well in opengl.

Lol I just downloaded it a few days ago so I can continue with my playthrough of the series in the near future.
Too bad there's no way to play the 4th one on PC at all. It's gonna trigger my OCD of playing through a game series in order.

Haha yeah, that's what I was planning to do as well, but I've never found the courage
I played through MGS3 Subsistence last year - the PCSX2 version of course - it's perfectly playable despite some occasional minor graphical glitches, and some ghetto rebinding is required with the 360 derpad, by using the triggers for CQC and shooting instead of the default non pressure-sensitive buttons.

All the gfx glitches are fixed now thx to the opengl plugin with blending unit emulation even the bloom and codec overlay effects work perfectly with the partial crc hack and half-pixel offset, it's also possible to run the whole game in 60 fps now with a patch, only the cutscenes where really in 60fps on the ps2 (despite what the emulator says) which is what made them so taxing there is also patch to run them in 30 fps which makes them way easier on the hardware both patches are included in the widescreen pnach file in the cheats.ws.zip file, for example 053D2239.pnach for the ntsc subsistence version. |
Awesome, I didn't know that

i'm just not the type of person to watch games. i play them or they don't exist.
that's my coping mechanism for being exclusively a PC gamer, and missing out on the console games that I'm interested in, no matter how few they are per each console.

Well Kojima got really crazy with cutscenes in MGS4 so you are watching most of the time anyway, used PS3s are also really cheap these days if you rather want to "play" it , so those are your options, i doubt we will see any rerelease of the game anytime soon considering how bad shit insane konami is these days, it's likely stuck on the PS3 for good.

MGS4 was worth something when it was first released because it was the "ultimate" (as in the last) MGS game that was supposed to wrap everything (with arguably very bad, fanservicey, and cringey storytelling ). Since then the series has continued with better games than it so there's no longer anything special about it.

"a phenomenon."

I agree with almost everything you said, but MGS5 is still a better game than 4 because by the time you'll get tired of its repetitive structure you will have experienced more gameplay than in MGS4. (Its story is just as crap although for different reasons.) And Peace Walker also had good gameplay for a PSP game (I also think its story wasn't that bad, certainly better than 4 and 5 anyway). I do agree MGS3 was the last great game in the series.

It looks exactly like it has looked in the last 14 years. Nothing has been changed.

Shadows don't work for me with the old patch, so I'm going to check this one out. It's not just the shadows though, invisible enemies are bugged (can't see the shimmer effect), water is bugged, as well as some cutscenes. This wasn't the case with Windows 7, but my HD died and I installed Windows 10 and some of the effects were missing.
Spoiler: | |
Edit: Checked it out, it's definitely a new fix, I got all of the graphical effects back and I can set model quality to 4/4 now, whereas I had to set it to 2/4 before. It also automatically maps your controller's inputs, which is new (using the old setup was a painstaking, confusing process).
The only problem I encountered is that it's not running in a native resolution on my monitor...
Here's the image with shadows:

yeah, sadly, seems there is something wrong with the internal resolution.
i tried 1400x1050 pillar boxed, 1680x1050, 2520x1575 and even 4x DSR 3360x2100, and they all look equally blurry and jaggy.
comparison between 2520x1575 and 3360x2100

As i said just play the PS2 version in Pcsx2 it looks and runs better anyway and is easier to setup as well there are no known problems with it and it has a functioning widescreen patch like most games nowadays.
I appreciate what the guy is trying to do but the port is still terrible and runs on a very old API so you will run into problems i don't really see the point in this.
