We could have a repution system, where by you can rep someone for an interesting, funny, informative, rude, against rules, immature post. It could be both positive / negative.
This way, VIPs will sort of nominiate themselves - people that have a high rep can choose to enter themselves for a VIP vote.
It would also show who the complete idiots are around here. (You could put on a system that you may only rep someone once per week or something so we dont get idiots who hate others dropping peoples rep!)
Would finally also help mods identify new users that are causing trouble.

I voted no.
I think it could be abused easily. For instance, some people have a big issue with a guy like SycoShaman, or Karmeck. Who really don't hurt these forums at all, but would get a lot of grief-votes because a lot of people can't think for themselves.
I would rather see a one-way system where people can vouch for a VIP, like a rep-system but where you could only vote on people you like, not vice-versa. The real "dregs" of this forum usually stand out without having a number to indicate such.
I also think fisk should be unbanned.

Ok, so your suggestion is just have it one way - i.e. positive? That would still be cool

Yeah. One way.
If someone is ruining the forums enough to deserve a ban, they will make themselves known, rep system or not.

I voted no. I think the fact that dominae pointed out is my reasoning too.

I think we should make the postcount invisible and just have a rep system.

Hell no, that is like taking the soul from the forum. A post count is a classic trate of the classic internet forum.
"rep" systems are stupid, pointless and serve a place only on warez content boards where uploaders collect handjobs from leechers..

You wouldn't have said this if you had 13954 posts.

What quality's make a person a VIP in the first place, as the system is now? Shouldn't there be a reward for loyalty towards this forum anyway. Whats the criteria to be a VIP?

Cheers natan, buddy. Lol
I'm just kidding. The only reason i would want to be a VIP, would be to see what you guys post in the VIP part of the forum. Curiosity killed the cat and all..

This, if used properly, could be a very good idea, as it will represent the entire forum. I voted no on the original, but positive rep could be good if not misused.

I think that rep system (if used correctly) is better indicator of good posters than post count. Look at Firemaster, Spiderman... They have big post count, but that doesn't mean that the majority of their posts are helpful or sth like that...

Rinze; care to comment on this? I agree negative rep isn't nessicary - but positive could really go a long way to making the forum better! Do you have the time to implement though?

But if only positive that is the only thing you will know about the guy/girl. Like Hitler, he was super cool to some ppl but bad to others but the ppl around him that don't know what he is doing will only see the rep from the positive ppl.

LOL, I don't think over conformity is really an issue here. It's not as if having a positive rep would give you any real power on a forum, unlike in the real world.
For example, you might post some weird shit, but I'm certain you'd have positive rep if this system were implemented.

it still needs to be 2 sides to it, only having one will make it pointless. Or more describable system with more natural options like: informing, weird, funny, off-topic and good.
That kinda stuff so ppl will know what kinda posts I make. ´

if this is implemented then I'm pretty sure I'm looking at a -over 9000 rep points
unnecessary imho

Actually that's a really good idea, but I think we'll find it hard enough to get the people in power to implement any kind of 'karma' system, so lets start small and aim big.

Nah, you're actually quite witty, and rarely malicious. I think most people can see that.

I have another addition! As the most of us are gamers, let's have a strategic approach:
You'll get
- wood for funny posts
- stone for creative posts
- food for informative posts
- and gold for helpful posts
Further we'll build a marketplace where you can trade theese goods.
Well but what to do with these resources? Let's take a flame war... you'll earn lot's different resources with which you'll build houses and your army and than you'll fight your enemy and he who wins get's all the other guys resources.
You'll need a specified ammount of resources to gain higher ranks and thus new technologys.
We will call it Age of NfoHump - an innovative approach to internet forums.
That should be easy enough
