Ok, here's the thing, I have extactly €1000 to spend, no more, no less, and after wasting 3 hours browsing through all online stores in my country, I have a dilemma, I urgently need to buy a new Case+Power Supply to support all my disks, I also need to buy a 1.5 TB HDD to discard my 250 Gb HDD's, and a new Keyboard/Mouse Wireless Combo

So, I have already chosen the above 4 items, and those ones are my constant, I can't change them.

So far I have "spent" roughly €500 (Case €130, Supply €150, HDD, €125, Input €100)

I have €500 left to spend at this point and I can't reach a conclusion, in one hand I was considering to buy a Intel i7+board+6Gb DDR3 ram and a GTX285 superclocked

But in order to make that buy I would surpass €400 of what I had stipulated, so I'm planning to buy the same GTX285 superclocked, but this time with a cheaper quad core, maybe AMD, DDR2 ram and a cheaper board.

Now my question is, I'm aware that the i7 are the best CPUs on the market but, if I choose my 2nd choice system, will I be able to play games like GTA4, Crysis, X3 and all the games to be released until years end, all maxed out with 8x AA and such?

Should I go AMD Phenom Quad to safe a few bucks and keep the DDR3 system, or DDR3 is still worthless now and I will be better with a high end DDR2 system?

In a nutshell:

AMD DDR3 or INTEL DDR2?

GTX285 or GTX295?

I was in a hurry for recommendations Wink

Anyway, already made my final choice:

INTEL Core i7 920 2.66GHz / 4.8GT/s / 8MB BOX
ASUS P6T
G.SKILL KIT 6GB 3X2GB DDR3 1600MHz CL8 PI PC12800
XFX GeForce GTX295 576M 1792MB DDR3 PCI-E - GX-295N-HHFF
SEAGATE 1.5TB SATA II 32MB 7200 RPM - ST31500341AS
NOX apex 800W (Modulated) - AT-800K14A
THERMALTAKE Armor + MX W/ Black Window - VH8000BWS
LOGITECH Cordless Laser MX1100 - 910-000720
LOGITECH G11 Keyboard

Total €1498.75

It's more than what I planned to spend, but I think I made a good choice.

Since I'm going for the top high end rig, any last minute recommendations to anything I should change or improve?

Can't wait to get this thing up and running Very Happy

Hehe did you honestly expect it to end any other way? Smile
I always go at least 50% over budget when buying HW.. it's one of those universal constants I guess.

Haven't upgrade in 2 years

My current Rig is a AMD X2 3800+ 2Gb DDR2 - 8600 GT
Now that I've got to much free time on my hands I want to play all those games that I just couldn't play a year ago, Crysis and GTA 4 being in the top list Very Happy

I guess I will notice an absurd perfomance boost when I get my new machine up and running, right? Very Happy

Anyway, I believe that my new rig is really among the top high end machines nowadays, at least that is my perspective from all the benchmarks I've seen.

only the i7 940 is closely superior, but since the price is more than double from the i7 920, it really seems to be a waste.

As for the GTX295, I guess it really is the best in the market or am I wrong?

I still have doubts about the keyboard.

I choose this one:

But I'm tempted for this one:

Considering the first is €55 and the second €100, is the little LCD panel useful for anything or not really?

Doesn't the newer version of the G15 keyboard have red LED's instead of blue?

I have heard there is a lot of apps that can display info on the LCD panel, CPU and GPU temps could be useful to see while gaming.

Ryzen 5 5600, ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING WIFI II, Corsair Vengeance RGB RT 32GB 3600MHz C16, MSI RTX 5070 Ti Ventus 3X OC , Corsair RMx Series RM750x. AOC AGON AG324UX - 4K 144Hz 1ms

I have a G15 (the newer !) and it's a really cool keyboard. I like its layout, it's 100% standard. The windows key disabler is also cool. It also has a mute key and the standard media keys.

As for the screen, it only works in a few games and it's kinda useless cause you don't look at it when playing ! It's more useful when you're playing videos or infos to check the infos. Or the date+time in the fancy analog clock.

Many times when laying in bed watching a movie I just look at the screen to check on the progress. Or when having a big playlist and you want to see the name of the song ... also you can use the email notification, even read them. The screen has extra 4 control keys and one to change between plugins.

For the macro keys, you know, standard stuff, but it also has a record option. I mainly use only one macro which runs a scipt of mine to do a forced reboot. I use it when the OS gets stuck and I can't get to the task manager etc.

You got to see this baby in the dark, looks AWESOME !

EDIT: The second screen you posted is the old shittier G15, not the newer.

EDIT 2: I forgot about the 2 USB hubs. Not properly "powered" though. For example, if you connect a gamepad, you won't have rumble.

when every euro counts you go for AMD and ATI as they are always better than any comparable intel/nvidia that arent more expensive.

Fanboy flamebait but go ahead and prove me wrong.

go for a AMD 720 Be or 940 BE depending on your needs, 955 BE if you need DDR3.

And you will save alot of money going for a 4890 also.

Ok, Asus P6T was out of stock, so I decided to change it to Asus Rampage II Extreme, it's yet another extra €150, but it seems it is by far the best board on the market! Very Happy

I'm now waiting for deliver, another painful 6 days of waiting, I was on the phone with a guy working at the store where I'm buying from, and he was like, "it is quite some time that someone buys such a perfect rig, you couldn't make a better choice"

I have one concern though, will it be to fast? Laughing

Also, I went for the Logitech G15 keyboard and the Logitech Cordless Laser MX Revolution Mouse.

Just remember to keep a small hatchet near your desk, so in case someone spills a drink on the G15 you can quickly and reliably butcher him. Sometimes the fuckers just run.

well you know im always along side you cheering for AMD but AMD's phenom II X4's are about the same as the core 2 quads

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/common_cpus.html

though AMD's new X4's from phenom II are at the top of the list excluding the extremes

the Phneom II 955 is 200 euros

the C2Q 9450 is 250 euros

a comparable C2Q is the 9300 which is 200 euros and slower than the 955

add to it that the 955 has unlocked multiplier, which puts no stress on mem or mainboard, which means you can take the cheapest mobo available and it will OC the same ( 3.8ghz at least ). if you still want the best or expensive mainboard for AM3 it will still only cost you 140 euros, cant say the same of intel.

i7 920 is hardly an extreme, though. Also, the highest X4 on that list goes for ~$220, while a i7 920 goes for ~$280. A bit higher, but performance is almost a third higher (according to those charts). I think it's worth it. Smile

Also, is the X4 even support DDR3?

Hmm, so they should have mentioned it in the charts, which ones they are using. Because the DDR3 could give the X4 SPUs even higher scores in the more memory intensive tests. Smile

The biggest issue I see with these Phenoms is the lack of proper SSE4 support. Almost all applications supporting that show dramatic increase in performance, something that is a shame AMD did not implement.

I also have a question, I'm not happy anymore with the 8800GTS 640mb that I bought 2 years ago and I'm planning to go for a Zotac GeForce GTX 275 AMP! Edition, 896MB GDDR3, its as fast as a GTX285, has a little less VRAM and costs only 220€. I preferrably play in 1680x1050 with 4xMSAA and 8xAF, at least at 30 fps. Do you think this one will last me another 2 years? With Dx11 coming and increasing VRAM requirements I still have some doubts. On the other hand, as long as there are the consoles, Pc gaming ain't gonna make big improvements in GFX and DX11 is far from being used in any games..what do you think?

meh , nice rig , tho i don't see the point in spending over 1 grand every 2 years or less on a new spec .
i do like that THERMALTAKE Armor case , really cool looking and well ventilated , tho maybe i would have preffered something less fancy , without led's , something silent but well cooled .

don't like that huge keyboard tho , i prefer something smaller without led's
