I think I mentioned this cooler in another thread, but as I know a lot of you guys have the HD 4870x2 and are not happy with the cooling/noise performance, this cooler could be the remedy.
I just ordered mine as it's now listed, at least here in Germany, says on the website (K&M Elektronik) that the cooler will be shipped within 6-8 days. List price is 39,99 €. I pay that any day to get rid of the spastic stock fan!

Meh I don't really mind the stock cooler that much - I mainly use background noise eliminating headphones anyway... Let us know how the whole install process goes tho, I might end up getting that just for the lowered temps (it's fucking hot in my apt in the summer time, so I'd have to up the fan speeds when gaming from the current %'s).

I cleaned out my cooler like a month or so ago, it was simply clogged to hell with dust. After that I started to use Riva Tuner, set it up to kick in the fan at 100% when it reaches 80c...and believe me it does that when ever I play anything=annoying!.
I know I could set it to a lower temp threshold, but 80c is pretty hot in my book. I am really looking forward to the Accelero...and some peace and quiet (I use headphones maybe 50% of the time).

Coxy, check out my "surgery" thread on the topic. It could be that there is a dust ball blocking the air from cooling the card. I used to have the same problem (going 100% RPM), but after cleaning the bitch properly (with tweezers), it has not yet once reached 100% (or 70% for that matter).
But anyway, since you are replacing, please post some shots of how you open the 4870X2 cooling solution. I tried opening mine, but wasn't successful.

So I finally installed this beast. Took it's time to arrive.
I can only tell you its worth every penny. Running at 1154RPM (Quiet like hell) and cools at 36-38c (idle)
Although, I have to say that I spent like 2h mounting the dam thing...don't get alarmed, it's because I am water cooling. The South bridge WC cooler was interfering with the AC Heat sink, so I had to cut away some of the fan frame reinforcement. In the end the result is way better then I thought, so again worth every penny.

Cox, any chance you could make a short guide on how you removed the old fan and air frame? I'm not buying just yet, but would love to be able to open it for cleaning purposes.

Oh dear!.
I think the best way is to get the PDF from AC here
LINK
It's not perfect, but it does the job (you have to sort a (interpret/go with it) and improvise a bit. To get the old heat sink off is not the prob, but to get the old shroud off is a bit of a feat. I can only recommend you to not give up .
But it's not that difficult, take your time etc.
Like I said, to get the heat sink off is not the prob, but rather if you want to clean it...the separation of the "bottom/top" piece can be a bit of a snag (to get those two heat sink pieces out of there). I simply used "brute" force, was giving up at one stage and thought I had to mount the old one back .

Why is the x2 so gay on standard fan heat dissipation? the 48701gb xfx runs idle at 39-42c at like 30% of the rated fan speed.. Did they like majorly fuck up or something.

Because the two PCBs are so close, and added memory; it all adds up to heat the components quite a lot.
Thanks for the link, Coxy!
