no, there's nothing wrong with childish enthusiasm. i get like that too Smile i prolly went a bit overboard there, i was trying to address the fact that games are overhyped (and this hurts even the better ones). even lame games get a ton of hype and everyone buys into that, when it's (sometimes) clear that they're just-another-*replace_with_some_genre*

i guess you want me to name some newer games, not monkey island sort of stuff.

dead space, mirror's edge, braid, bionic commando rearmed, king's bounty, zeno clash, cryostasis, drakensang, bully, gta4, witcher, stalker, samnmax season 2, portal.
these i've really liked. (i've left out the indie/freeware stuff)

and some console games that i wish i could play: mgs 4, ninja gaiden, project trico, killzone2, resistance 2, mad world, mario galaxy, house of the dead, boom blox, heavy rain

there are prolly more new games besides these that i could mention, but i've been looking through metacritic for what feels like half an hour now, so i'll stop Smile

huh? nah, man, i got what you said and i wasn't offended or anything, on the contrary, what you did was make me feel sorry for going overboard and for throwing offensive generalizations around.

you can continue with whatcha wanted to say, if you want, but i'm warning you that i'm gonna light one up soon, since i haven't done anything else today besides talk shit here and i'm a bit tired. just don't expect me to be too coherent anymore (i'm not saying that i was 'til now)

That boring offtopic buried my huge and awesome post. Copy/Paste here :

Here are some protips from someone who raged about the game (see a few posts above for an old post I made) but then had countless hours of fun !

Always use the map to find the easiest routes to avoid checkpoints, you don't have to use the roads.

If you have to pass a checkpoint you've already unlocked, you can just storm through trying to hit 1-2 guys with the car, then get the hell out of there, if they follow you stop and use the car's gun. Always use cars with mounted guns.

With mounted guns you can aim by right-clicking. Otherwise, the correct aim isn't where the gun point is, it's a little above that. (I don't use richt-click on mounted guns, I just aim lower)

Try to use bus stations to teleport somewhere better to get to your target. Even if it means driving in the desert 2 minutes. Better than useless confrontations.

You're harder to spot at night and you can buy the camouflage suit upgrade. Then you'll be really hard to spot. Unlock the Dart Gun for ultra-silent one-hit-snipes. Use safehouses to advance time.

If they're firing on you and you don't see where they are (common occurence) just move. Don't try to stay where you are and scout around, just move somewhere better, you'll see them eventually.

Always have your buddy rescue-ready. If he falls he uses a coloured smoke grenade, use a syringe on him. The third time it happens he's gonna die no matter what, but you'll get another one, lol. If you leave him there on the ground he'll die.

Fires work better in the savannah, not in the jungle. So use your molotovs there. And the wind pushes the fire, so you know where you throw them ...

If someone has fallen down, use the knife on him (performs special move, hehe)

When you are in the armory, grab 3 new guns (primary, secondary and special) and put them in the crates, so that you can find them in all the sasfehouses. Then grab new ones.

While running you can press crouch to slide a few meters ahead. Feels cool.

When you are at a location, noone spawns there. So do what you have to do, then leave. Don't go away to get ammo/health or whatever.

If a car hits you, it's instant death. So if they're accelerating towards you run/use cover, don't try to shoot them, it's not worth the risk to be run over.

Arrow Don't quote this wall of text.

EDIT: This game is huge.

Thanks for the tips VGAdeadcafe. Won the game from a competition, but haven't even installed it yet. After reading those tips might have to give it a go soon, as they go around my biggest concern with the spawning.

This is like the most missionles game I have ever played, unbelievable. So far I've seen two missions in the game kill someone/something and 'defend the barge' that's it!

Random generated missions have more depth than this, bunch of twats made this game, the only fun thing is to snipe explosive containers from distance and watch the motherfuckers burn, big world in this case means empty world, this isn't Oblivion or Stalker where you can explore and hope to find something interesting, here you know there is nothing up front so why explore, doesn't make sense.

The missions from Mercs 2 seem like quests from Oblivion compared to this, I will finish it now but I hope not to see a game like this for as long as I live, just disappointing.

Thanks for the info VGA,
This game was one of the biggest dissapointments I have ever faced. Not as bad as SoF3, but a bummer either way.
I tried, tried and tried again to get into it but it didn't feel Far Cry-ish at all. Sometimes that's good but not this time. I had just returned from installing a VoIP network in remote Haiti and the beggining got me pumped. But it ended there. I will play with the graphics and try your tips. Thanks!

If it is actually in Africa again, i won't be playing it. That would get very boring fast.

Enough with the regions of jungle and water.

But then they can't use these game as tech demos for their impressive engines (you know, important features like vegetation, sun shafts, bloom, chickens, etc). Could you imagine Crysis or the original Far Cry in a dense urban environment? "Yawn, yet another realistic shooter." Instead you get "Yawn, yet another jungle/tropical shooter." with each iteration. The only great thing about the game was the level editor. It was so much fun and somehow I spent more time making maps rather than playing the game.

1 and 2 are still amazing.

I've just finished the game and....pfffeww what a suffering Laughing
Seriously, there are some good ideas, gfx are great etc but all this is pratically absorbed by the vortex of extreme repetition, just like happened with the other Ubisoft's nextgen monsterpieces AC and the newest PoP.
I also tried some MP sessions but...it's better to draw a veil over it Rolling Eyes

I... I liked AC. Sad

A lot in fact, can't wait for the sequel. Smile

But FC2... Horrible. I loved the fire physics, but other than that it blew.

Just installed the game to try it for the multiple time but farcry2.exe isn't protected anymore after updating the game to 1.03, fc2.dll is still present and protected with securom pa 1.0.1.10 but can be removed as it's function has gone. ( just ran it thru pid because i was curious )
