As you said, it is already perfect. I don't see the point in re-making it. Spend the money making something new instead.

I recently watched 2001: A Space Odyssey again, and I was thinking what a great remake it would make. Of course we'd need some aliens and spaceships with big ray guns, some A-list actors (and maybe a wrestling star or three) and a lot shorter scenes with more cuts.

This.
Navigator IS my favourite childhood film - and now it, like Short Circuit and god knows what else, is being raped and my memories dishonoured.
Fuck you Hollywood. I hope that when Korea nukes everyone, you're the first fucking place to go.

No it wouldn't work, what would it look like probably something like Armageddon, one scene=one second, can't see shit.

I always find it funny when people whine about remakes, as if it's somehow a personal affront to their nostalgia. I would have thought you'd got over the whole remake process already.
Perfect? No film is...

Maybe I'm thinking about another movie, but this one was far from 'perfect'. And you don't have to watch remakes, even if Hollywoord makes them.

remakes are pointless if they dont capture the essence of the original and so far i dont think anyone has ever managed to.

What the point is? Well, obviously the point is to update an old movie so the younger generations can experience it.
Personally I also enjoy remakes, because they don't keep me from watching the original if I like it better.
But did you ever try to get a kid to watch a movie that was made 30 years before it was born? Will be pretty hard, so let them have something that matches their taste.
If you don't like the idea of a remake, then don't watch it. problem solved.

I disagree. Remakes can bring up completely different perspectives and set their own agenda or just enhancen the one from the original bringing it to a new audience. The Thing is a perfect example of this, imo.
