To be honest i dont really mind if the quality is a bit lower. My hdtv isnt very good so I wont even see the difference. Plus i'll be seating far away.
Thanks nous, i'll try that program, and will report how it looks.

anything 720p that is dvd9-sized will be perfectly fine (ie identical) anyways, should have plenty of bitrate to go around.
still a million times better than xvid, but I guess glottis' suggestion is for you to just stare at a wall or something instead (since somehow slightly lower quality = no point in even watching it).

Well it worked fine, thought ps3 recognizes the disk as a data disk, i have to manually go to STREAM folder and then it plays fine.
Truthfully i do not notice any difference from my very good monitor to my not so good tv, looks about the same. Overall im satisfied, wish there was an easier way though, like putting it all on hd and play it from there, but this will do, just will take a bit of time.
Thanks nous.

+1 for PMS. I've gone through many different mediaservers, but this one just kicks em all in the ass.
Plus it can mux-on-the-fly instead of transcode mkvs and other formats.

I think we need a thread with tips for ps 3 and xbox. If i knew about this one earlier it could have saved me alot of problems.

Well that media server works wonders, recognizes all kinds of files. The problem was (and i dont know if its my router or ps3) but it was really lagging, hd and nonhd movies, when i used wireless connection on my ps3, but then i used a wire and now the streaming is perfect. Even with BT running in the backround, hogging all the bandwidth (dont even know if it affects it)
I also noticed that when I was dling demos using wireless, it was not utilizing my full speed, i'll try to dl now and see if it does.

To be honest, it may just be the nature of wireless. Essentially, its not very good for streaming.
However, My major complaint with the PS3 was the wireless connection and how slow and clunky it was. Wired is far more efficient.

I also gave in and ordered Uncharted: Drakes' Fortune. I have to say, I've been skeptical about this one all this time, and I still am, but I haven't heard of a single person who disliked it and the only negative thing I heard was its length, which according to many didn't matter that much since it was still such a great game, thus, I gave in. I bet I'll love it, but yeah, I'm still sceptical.
I got it pretty cheap though. |
I will bet 5 pounds that after you play Uncharted you will preorder uncharted 2.

I think he won't take that bet, as he probably paid for the game 5 pounds and his still sceptical

As for your bet, I'm sure I'll pre-order Uncharted 2, with all the praise the first one has gotten, I can't see myself not loving it.
Any of you used those PS2 controller adapters you can buy btw? If so, do they work well, do all buttons and such work? And vibration? |
MGS4 was a slight disappointment compare to MGS3. I guess my # one reason was because snake was an old fart and not somebody u look up for but rather u had to constantly feel bad for him in the game. at the end of the game u are just tired of constantly feeling bad for this weak character. I would strongly recommend u to play MGS3, as this is the best of the sereas.

All but the vibration feature... at least with the one I got... I just went ahead and picked up another DS3 in the end and the adaptor has come in very handy on the PC as a USB 3 port hub instead

About the shop. I strongly recommend shopto as our nordic prices are insane. 3.50 pound for shipment and max 3 days delivery with ups. And 90 procent of the games are cheaper then any where else. And you don't have to worry about tax cause they ship from Uk not jersy or other place out of eu.

Don't get me wrong, I loved MGS4, it was absolutely epic, I do want to play mgs3 though, but my ps3 is too new, can't play ps2 games, I am trying to get a friend with a ps2 to flash/chip it so I can play it there though. ;p My issue with the mgs4 game, was related to the shop I bought it from, very cheap but extremely slow. And I was extremely anxious to play it. ;p
@xyzg
Thanks for the answer. Since I won't be using the two ps2 controllers, that's okey. I have two dual shock3 controllers already, I just need two more so me and my mates can play Motorstorm 2 and little big planet together. ^^ As long as the buttons work, everything's fine. ^^
@bogo
That is a really nice site indeed, will have to check them a bit. Their price on Killzone 2 was really awesome compared to our shops, around €10 cheaper on ShopTo, and our normal price for Killzone 2 is around €50... You can find it for €40 something, but it ain't in stock, and it's from a very slow shop. Have there been any problems with ShopTo? Do they ship fast (not really needed when they're that cheap but still)? |
As i said after 3 days you will have it in your hand. Just be careful about British holidays.
I think i have ordered about 20 times from them over the last 2 years i think. And everything goes smooth. I have even ordered my ps3 from them and in 2 days i had it. Saved about 130 pounds.
In Denmark most of the new ps3 games are from 60 euros and upwards. So getting games under34 euros is something which i can't say no.

It's free shipping for uk but not for other country's. Play is cheap but it ships from jersey which is not a part of EU. And that means you have to pay taxes if they catch it at mail office. I have already paid the fine twice. So i am not going to order from play anymore.

well I order from Norway never paid shipping from play.com and as long as I keep below the free toll limit no extra tax either. Now if only the euro would suck as much as the dollar things would be golden. Stil lmight give em a try next time I order something.

Jersey is part of the UK, which is part of the EU. I can't see why you would need to pay any extra taxes on orders within Europe. I use play.com a lot and have never had any issues at all.
