I am looking for an LCD montior for gaming. I have read some info and found out that response time is the big concern.

My budget is under $400.00.

What do you guys recommend and if you have links to purchase I would appreciate.

thanks

Yes true. Response time is a big problem when it is =25+ and a minor problem when 16-25ms. You should try getting a 16ms screen or faster like 8 or 5ms. Check this page -> http://graphics.tomshardware.com/display/index.html. They got pretty nice info stacked up.

I wouldn't worry too much about the response times unless you are a real hardcore gamer.

My NEC MultiSync 18" LCD is over 3 years old now and by todays standards is low tech with response times of 30ms (white to black) 20ms (black to white) but....it plays games ok, for me at least (Doom3, NFS) running at 1280x1024 resolution and with an 'old' 128Mb Gforce 4 Ti 4600 graphics card.

If anything, the only thing I would like is better brightness (200cd/m sq) but I'll wait til I get my new 23" widescreen TFT Very Happy

How's this one: Samsung Syncmaster 712N....12 ms response time and 1280 X 1024 native resolutions. 17 inch.

Best Buy has it for $369.00 (after rebates).

Any opinions on this one?

I got 16ms and the melee lags on my 16ms screen so better response time is recommended.

Nittany -> Sounds ok.

My experience of TFT's has taught me that prize means very little, the best stuff is made by Samsung in regards of TFT I humbly think. Though, save your money and buy the 710T.

Yes, yes I'm back.

I just got a 17" 12ms LCD from newegg.com for 260.

one I got:
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-009-027&depa=1

zero ghosting in half-life 2, need for speed underground 2, and any other game i put to the test

with LCDs the refresh rate doesn't matter... it doesn't have a cathode ray tube going up and down 85 times a second

ps "Response Time: Response time is an unusual preference and always a trade off. Typical response time (TrTf - Time rising, Time falling) refers to the time that it takes the LCD subpixel to twist from the fully "on" position to the fully "off" position and then back again. Response time has absolutely nothing to do with framerate. Pixel response times are independent of each other, and it does not take the entire screen 25ms to refresh if a monitor is labeled as a 25ms response time LCD. The time that it takes the LCD to go from black to white may be 15ms while the time that it takes the LCD to go from black back to white may be 10ms. Furthermore, your monitor is generally rendering a color that is not on end of the color spectrum. The time that it takes your LCD subpixel to twist from one half of a tone to another may be more or less than 15ms. The TrTf response time is normally a pretty useless measurement - but it makes for an easy specification in which to market LCDs. "

Looks very nice. Do you have any reviews on it. Still there are some 8ms screens coming out soon.
