For a new one, I've got a Lenovo R60 ATM and love everything about it.

I just wanna find another one that can at least handle some DX9 games. It can do older shit greatly like max payne etc but I was hoping to run demigod or something on it and it wouldn't evne start.

I was hoping to get another lenovo but doesn't seem they even have much for gpu's other than the x3100 at most.

This laptop only cost me like 400 so I really don't want to hit above 600 if possible (prob buy used or something from their outlet store)

But is the x3100 capable?

also found a T61 with a IntelĀ® Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD

its your choice, if you want a good gaming lappy then you have to spend 2-3K max
if your low on cash then go for Asus N50VC-FP021C that plays Crysis on med-low

in my Lappy experience i can say this every thing that goes beyond 8000 mark in 3dmark2006 is a great gaming lappy , go check this page
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html
and find one that suits your needs - first find the graka card that can make it they look for a lappy that has it

has crappy battery, only 176-minute battery life and shitty speakers but if you play with headphones and play without the batpack your set... nice choice

you could also go for Gateway P-7811FX

I don't plan on playing games with just a batter lol, and I don't ever expect laptops to have decent speakers.

I don't like gateway either, I tried fixing one last year and was going to upgrade it only to find out to upgrade a gateway they made their computers so you had to buy the hardware from them and only them.

so just got back from checking out the laptop, it's a pretty nice setup. Granted I couldn't test any games and Best Buy had it loaded up with fucking shit upon shit with evne more shit with geeksquad.

The only thing I don't like is it doesn't have my little red ball that lenovo keyboards have Sad

keyboard is decent but still no lenovo, screen is nice except the notorious fucking gloss which I guess would be fine since it's easier to clean. seems sturdy. Will read a bit more about it and should have it within the next week or so Smile

Damn thing comes with 32bit vista, which is funny considering it fucking has 4GB of memory in it.

lol who said I'd need help getting it to run right? Best Buy right now is usually the place to get something IF you want to pay a 40% markup on something, right now this laptop is selling at like 1200 around at other stores so they've got the deal. It isn't hard to re-spiffy a laptop, I had to do it to my lenovo which was a motherfucker to do, I had to re-do an acer a year ago and that was a bitch and a half, I've done it to a few other laptops as well.

At least Asus and Lenovo are easy to with drivers.

I bought a laptop from a retail chain (I think it was circuit city but could have been best buy as well) a long time ago and I just got some recovery cd which only put all the crapware back on the computer. Plus on a hd that was only 6.4Gb (it was a long time ago Razz) there was a recovery partition of 2Gb leaving very little space for things like the os and stuff.

Well it's your choice but I remember you trashing best buy yourself here. And you know how hard it will be to get the hardware working without the loadware and you'll probably lose the warranty as well.

Getting hardware to work is a breeze, it only took me so long to get my lenovo working is cause I had to find out what needed what drivers and I've never used lenovo's site before. The actual getting the laptop to work was a breeze and it's been running flawlessly since.

is the gateway worth the extra 250 bucks for a slightly faster GPU?

anyone know how gateway is in terms of quality?

lets talk like some low gangsta:
yo shizle need bling ta low on ca$H steal Asus
need fine ass smooth performace go gateway baby

but when picking up gateway watch out for :
Code:
The early production serial number with 138 have the 1900x1200. Also the recently production serial number with 1391 is also 1900x1200. If your serial number is 1390 than it have 1440x900 Resolution. I check 3 Bestbuy around my area. The first one sold out on this laptop. Second Bestbuy all in stock is 1390. I went to 3rd Bestbuy in Fullerton, CA store. They have 5 in stock. 4 of them are 1391.
