OK, first my configuration:
MB: MSI P43 Neo,
CPU: E5200
RAM: Nanya 2GB 800Mhz DDR2 (some no-name POS)
GPU: Palit GF9800GT
PSU: 460W
OS: Vista x64

Today I bought a 2GB Kingston 800Mhz DDR2. I put it in one of the DIMM slots (so it is dual-channel) turned my PC on and right before Windows starts loading BAM! BSOD. I thought it might be because there are two different brands of memory, but nope. Took them both out, put only the Kingston one in the first slot, turn the PC on again - same thing.

And I'm absolutely sure it's properly placed cuz I can see it in BIOS.

So, any suggestions? Smile

Have you set all the timmings and volts for the RAM manually? You bought 1x2GB? that won't be dual channel.

I bought 1x2GB and already have another 1x2GB = dual-channel, different brands though. Gonna try messing with BIOS a bit.

Looks like they support different timings:
Kingston: 6-6-6-18
Nanya: 5-5-5-18
So what should I do? Select the lower values? Or rhe higher ones? It has been on "Auto" since I got my PC. Yeah, I'm a noob when it comes to this shit. Sad

Well, as a rule, if you leave it on "Auto" - then the fastest sticks will be automatically locked to the speed (and timings) of the slowest ones ... in this case, your Nanya will be running at the 6-6-6-18 specs of the Kingston.

That's what I thought too. But Kingston doesn't even load alone Laughing Fuck it. I'm returning it tomorrow.

That's pretty harsh mate Sad Kingston are hideous manufacturers anyway, cheap budget RAM made for cheap, budget, prebuilt computers -- but even still, they should at least WORK for you :-\

Before you give everything up as a bad loss, try different slots. Are the sticks 2x1GB or 1x2GB? If there are two sticks, remove the rest of them and try booting with a single stick of your Kingston in each slot incrementally.

Slot 1. BSOD. Change slot to the 2nd one. Repeat.


If that still doesn't work, change to the OTHER stick of Kingston.

Failing that, search through the BIOS and set the timings manually to 6-6-6-18 and also put the voltage up (standard/auto should be 1.9, so try 2.0 -- but don't go above 2.1 as that's pretty much the ceiling for most RAM, especially cheaper stuff)
